JSC "Kharkiv Machine-Building Plant "Svitlo Shahtarja" has created and introduced into serial production a new generation UKD200-500 coal shearer. The most loaded element of the shearer is its cutting part. It is a three-stage reducer with an electric motor. Calculations for the strength and durability of gearing, shafts, bearings, spline, pinned and hinge joints have been carried out. The modeling of the stress-strain state for the main parts and assemblies by the finite element method has also been carried out. Calculations have shown that the strength and durability of all parts is ensured. Consequently, the required durability of 15000 hours and the average resource before major overhaul are not less than 800...1000 thousand tons are provided.

Abstract The objective of this paper is to study various methods that can be implemented on existing or new tanks to achieve an extended endorsement period (e.g. 20 years plus) for Crude Oil Floating Roof Storage Tanks. This extended period is necessary in order to overcome anticipated future challenges in tank availability due to (i) increased production and loading, (ii) stretched major overhaul (MOH) duration due to unforeseen delays in MOH works, (iii) corrosion in bottom plates, etc. An extensive research based on international API Standard 653 "Tank Inspection, Repair, Alteration, and Reconstruction" was conducted to achieve this extended period. Initially, some COS tanks aspects were assessed based on API SPEC 653 (2014, Addendum 2, May 2020) to achieve this new Tanks Endorsement Vision, such as: (a) studying the currently applied Corrosion Protection Barriers to the COS tanks and their effectiveness to the endorsement period, (b) the adequacy of commonly applied Corrosion Protection Barriers with respect to the endorsement period, and (c) exploring possible enhancements on COS Tanks Corrosion Protection Barriers, and Monitoring systems to extend tanks endorsement period. Based on API SPEC 653 (2014, Addendum 2, May 2020), currently applied tank safeguards were found inadequate to achieve the 20 years plus tank endorsement period requirement. In order to extend tanks endorsement period, additional safeguards shall be implemented, with special attention to tank bottom plates (soil side), since corrosion problems are mostly exhibited in tank bottom plates from the soil/oil side. Multiple solutions for corrosion safeguards were explored and recommended as part of this study such as the installation of a CP system under COS tanks, as well as installation of a corrosion monitoring system, and performing routine in-service inspections for COS tanks (internal and external) as per API SPEC 653 (2014, Addendum 2, May 2020), etc. Overall, this paper provides an insight on the calculation method of tanks endorsement period, and possible tank corrosion safeguards and controls that can be implemented to extend the COS tanks endorsement period to at least 20 years. Results and recommendations studied in this paper will benefit the Oil and Gas Industry and help in overcoming future challenges.

Abstract Maintenance costs and machine availability are two of the most important concerns to gas turbine equipment owner. Therefore, a well thought out maintenance program that reduces costs while increasing equipment availability should be instituted. The correct implementation of planned maintenance relying on preventive maintenance optimization through perfect inspection frequency and scope provides direct benefits in the avoidance of forced outages, unscheduled repairs, and downtime. Major overhaul is carried out for each gas turbine every 48,000 firing hours which costs around 1 M USD for each engine and with more than 8 months unavailability for the unit. To increase equipment availability and enhance cost and time efficiency, alternatives approaches were evaluated including Service Exchange of gas turbines. It is found that service exchange is the best option for optimizing time and cost of overhaul of such engines. This paper is written to improve Major Overhaul practice for existing Gas Turbines from ongoing practice of routine major overhaul including engine strip down, inspection and repair to Service Exchange of Gas Generator and Power Turbine every 48,000 firing hours.

PurposeThis study is to develop an accurate assessment tool to identify the factors that may influence determining the appropriate use for historic buildings.Design/methodology/approachThe research method in this study is qualitative. The integrated MCDM (multi-criteria decision-making) method is used to determine the most appropriate use for historic buildings, which ultimately led to the development of the MAU (most appropriate use) model.FindingsThe results of this study show that, in terms of preserving identity and cultural heritage, the role intangible criteria have to play is seemingly more important than that of tangible criteria. Also, weighted criteria in the matrix relating the “use” options demonstrate cultural-social, commercial and educational uses being apparently more important than other uses.Originality/valueThe novelty of this research is in providing a framework to facilitate contribution to determine the most suitable use for historic buildings with the ability to set criteria and separate weights for each building aiming to increase the useful life to the maximum extent and delaying the need for a subsequent major overhaul.

Even the most primitive hunter-gatherers occasionally had to give names to tools and places, and the need for instrument and place nouns has grown ever since in tandem with the unfolding of human culture. It is therefore no wonder that the majority of languages of the world, among them Latin and the Romance languages, have specific patterns of word formation to this effect. As is the case with other categories of word formation, those referred to with instrument noun and place noun do not constitute conceptually homogeneous sets, but sets of conceptually related subcategories. Instrument nouns comprise objects that can range from simple tools and gadgets to complex machines, but can also represent less prototypically instrumental objects like chemical substances or pieces of clothing and armor, as well as more abstract entities that are often referred to as means. Place names, in turn, cover subcategories as diverse as terrains, fields and groves, burrows, stalls and other buildings, countries, regions, and towns. Vessels represent a category located halfway between instrument and place nouns: an inkpot, for example, is an artifact designed to contain ink and as such close to an instrument, but can also be viewed as a place where ink is stored. Both instrument and place nouns can take as bases nouns and verbs, more rarely adjectives. This description of the two categories is essentially valid for both Latin and Romance. The category of place nouns has remained relatively stable at the conceptual level throughout the period considered here, although many changes can be observed for individual suffixes. Instrument nouns, by contrast, have suffered a major overhaul in the wake of the scientific and industrial revolutions.

Abstract Here we present an update to MutationTaster, our DNA variant effect prediction tool. The new version uses a different prediction model and attains higher accuracy than its predecessor, especially for rare benign variants. In addition, we have integrated many sources of data that only became available after the last release (such as gnomAD and ExAC pLI scores) and changed the splice site prediction model. To more easily assess the relevance of detected known disease mutations to the clinical phenotype of the patient, MutationTaster now provides information on the diseases they cause. Further changes represent a major overhaul of the interfaces to increase user-friendliness whilst many changes under the hood have been designed to accelerate the processing of uploaded VCF files. We also offer an API for the rapid automated query of smaller numbers of variants from within other software. MutationTaster2021 integrates our disease mutation search engine, MutationDistiller, to prioritise variants from VCF files using the patient's clinical phenotype. The novel version is available at https://www.genecascade.org/MutationTaster2021/. This website is free and open to all users and there is no login requirement.

The paper is devoted to optimization of maintenance and repair system of passenger cars. The method is based on the use of profitability as a criterion of optimization. Revenue from car operation is supposed to be uniform during a service life. Costs include price of construction, expanses on utilization (with deduction of income from the writeoff), expanses on repairs of large volume, expanses of other railway services and variable expanses on current maintenance of a car in inter-repair periods that are assumed to change linearly and quadratically during each inter-repair period. The authors propose a method to consider dependence of current repairs cost on a car condition during its life cycle. They also have developed a method of optimization of costs on roundhouse servicing and major overhaul. The proposed methods are realised on C++ language in the form of software package that can be used to control the passenger car repair system and for development of new cars.
