JSC "Kharkiv Machine-Building Plant "Svitlo Shahtarja" has created and introduced into serial production a new generation UKD200-500 coal shearer. The most loaded element of the shearer is its cutting part. It is a three-stage reducer with an electric motor. Calculations for the strength and durability of gearing, shafts, bearings, spline, pinned and hinge joints have been carried out. The modeling of the stress-strain state for the main parts and assemblies by the finite element method has also been carried out. Calculations have shown that the strength and durability of all parts is ensured. Consequently, the required durability of 15000 hours and the average resource before major overhaul are not less than 800...1000 thousand tons are provided.

Processes of plastic injection molding are often under analyzes in industry and science. Many of these considerations apply to epoxy resins with additional reinforcement, often with glass or carbon fiber inside the closed mould. The simulations of injection molding processes in the production of composite elements is not as common, as thermoplasts. Hence the idea to carry out the work described in this article. The RTM (Resin Transfer Molding) method is dedicated to serial production with the possibility of producing visual carbon fiber elements for aesthetic reasons. Simulations can help to better refine the products. This allows to take appropriate precautions and solve many issues before implementation. The article presents possible situations that could occur in real conditions. Various shapes models were prepared as basis of the numerical calculations. The analyses highlighting the possible issues were performed. The influence of resin pressure and flow rate on the final product was also considered. The aim was to present the characteristic phenomena and their causes that often occur in reality to technologists working with the RTM. Conclusions related to the work carried out are included. Based on the analyzes and conclusions drawn, it is possible to improve the quality of production processes.

The article deals with the models of dump cars, which form the basis of a modern fleet of industrial railway transport. The design features of dump cars used for transportation and automated unloading of coal ore, soil, sand, gravel and other similar goods at domestic industrial enterprises are presented. Models of modern dump cars of domestic production for industrial railway transport, which were created and put into serial production during the last ten years, are given. The main existing requirements to design and manufacture of dump cars are determined. The results of comparative analysis of technical characteristics of dump cars of the last generation up to modern models of dump cars showed that one of the main advantages of the latter is to improve the strength and reliability of individual components and systems. The main focus of design upgrading of modern models of dump cars of domestic production for industrial railway transport is determined. The technical requirements for dump cars of the next generation, which are planned to be created and introduced into serial production in 2022-2026 for operation on the railway tracks of industrial enterprises, are proposed. Technical requirements are based on the results of the design studies of the present-day dump cars for industrial applications, review of technical and design documentation for these cars, and also the analysis of requirements and wishes of customers. The necessity for relevant research and development works of dump cars of the new generation for industrial railway transport is substantiated. The materials of the article will contribute to the construction of new models of dump cars for industrial railway transport and total upgrading of existing models, as well as improving the efficiency of their operation. Key words: dump car, maintenance interval, strength, industrial railway transport, service life.

By simulating the welding process, potential non-conformities can be detected before serial production is launched, which can significantly reduce operation costs. There are many different possibilities for modeling the process, therefore it is very important to choose a method that will ensure high accuracy of the solution in a relatively short time. The article will present the influence of various methods of modeling the welding process in the CAE environment on the obtained deformation results. For the given geometry and type of weld, the thermal deformations have been simulated based on the Finite Element Method. Several analyzes were carried out using different process modeling approaches (mesh type). Finally, a comparison of the results for the discussed cases is presented to determine the influence of the parameters used on the deformation results obtained.

Comparison of efficiency based on the qualitative decision-making method of autoclave and non-autoclave technologies for the manufacture of carbon-fiber aircraft structures such as aircraft wing planes B787, A350, MC-21, Cseries. The differences and advantages in the serial production of prepreg-autoclave and VARTM technological process.  The comparison was carried out on sufficient presentational basis of criteria of two levels using combinatorial and decomposition research method. Each variant of the process is characterized by evaluations according to selection criteria. Their scores are vector assessment of the criteria based on expert judgment and opinion of the decision maker. Noted that each option has own boundaries of compatibility and practical application.

One hundred years after the foundation, the Bauhaus is well known as the epitome of modern design with countless books, articles and reviews illustrating a vivid discourse on how the Bauhaus influenced the design development since then. Greater parts of this discourse are dedicated to a rather material approach by pointing out the contradictions of Bauhaus design: the promise of creating prototypes for serial production on the one side and the actual products which are often handmade original art works, rather crafted in exquisite materials than designed for the masses. Walter Gropius’s original idea for his school thereby was about educating and inspiring modern individuals, teaching them how to work with their hands as well as their minds, how to reflect on the surrounding world, unifying hand crafting skills and artistic personality in times of the Machine Age. In the very special case of the correlation between design work as material product and the process of creating a design idea with all its psychological and personal implications must be differentiated. Especially the early spiritual and philosophical Bauhaus had set the base for a strong community, welded together by idealism, artistic spirit of creativity and strong faith in the sociocultural power of form and design.

An analysis of 20 years of official documents (1995–2014) and legislative acts at national and EU levels using Jessop’s Strategic Relational Approach (SRA) offers insights into inherent structural flaws in the Justice and Home Affairs aspects of European and member state migration policies. Focusing on two triptychs (hierarchy, governance and government; state power(s), strategic selectivities and structures) and tracking their development clarifies that this policy field’s purposes stray beyond migration management. In fact, the EU migration policy model was set up to be inherently expansive and is intimately linked to EU institutions and national governments striving to enhance their power(s). This is why apparent aberrations and unlawful acts by states amounting to a power grab have developed into an attack against normative frameworks including human rights. This article investigates whether European approaches to immigration policy at the EU and national levels currently pose a problem in terms of state power and authoritarianism due to inherently expansive tendencies and the serial production of problems and hierarchies. It offers a methodological, state-theoretical contribution to address a policy fix in which the EU and its member states appear caught, with harmful effects that spread beyond EU borders through externalisation.

The KV heavy tank stays among the legends of the Great Patriotic War and one of the most recognizable combat vehicles of those years. The assessment of the tank, its design features and practice of operation, in scientific, popular science literature, and journalism, is still ambiguous: from praise to denial. Historical memory of this combat vehicle is actively living its life not only on pages of the books, but also in the virtual space, in the branches of thematic Internet forums and computer games. The heavy tank of KV series was developed and put into service at the very end of 1939. A new grade of 42S armor steel was created especially for it, which was distinguished by a relatively low content of alloying elements and high adaptability for mass production. The authors seriously studied the stages of armor production and the difficulties in its creation. They show the enormous contribution of metallurgists to the creation of a combat vehicle. As a result of engineering research and the decisive contribution of metallurgy, a formidable machine was obtained, possessing thick armor (75 mm) and quite powerful armament (76.2 mm cannon). At the same time, the tank had a whole range of disadvantages that reduce the effectiveness of its combat use. The general lack of development of the design and archaic technological solutions created serious problems both in the production and in the subsequent operation of this tank. History and tradition of searching the tank allows taking a fresh look at the long glorious traditions of the national engineering school in the field of metallurgy, and its decisive contribution to the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
