This study builds on prior research on second language (L2) Spanish psych verbs, which has centered on morphosyntactic properties, by examining their syntactic distribution, which relies on lexical semantic knowledge. The fact that certain forms are licensed for some verbs, but not others, is the result of an underlying lexical semantic difference across verb classes, represented here as a difference in formal feature strength. To fully acquire the relevant grammatical distribution, L2 learners must successfully acquire (i) licensing restrictions on argument structure and (ii) underlying lexical semantic representations of individual verbs. Three groups of L2 learners ( n = 66) and a group of native Spanish speakers ( n = 19) completed two judgment tasks (one with aural stimuli and one with written stimuli) which presented object experiencer psych verbs in multiple argument structures. Results show that advanced L2 learners are largely sensitive to the distribution tested here; however, while they have acquired relevant licensing restrictions, they may associate fixed feature settings with verbs that allow variable feature settings. These results are consistent with predictions made by the Feature Reassembly Hypothesis and highlight the role of lexical semantic features in second language acquisition.

Abstract Background The advancement of science and technologies play an immense role in the way scientific experiments are being conducted. Understanding how experiments are performed and how results are derived has become significantly more complex with the recent explosive growth of heterogeneous research data and methods. Therefore, it is important that the provenance of results is tracked, described, and managed throughout the research lifecycle starting from the beginning of an experiment to its end to ensure reproducibility of results described in publications. However, there is a lack of interoperable representation of end-to-end provenance of scientific experiments that interlinks data, processing steps, and results from an experiment’s computational and non-computational processes. Results We present the “REPRODUCE-ME” data model and ontology to describe the end-to-end provenance of scientific experiments by extending existing standards in the semantic web. The ontology brings together different aspects of the provenance of scientific studies by interlinking non-computational data and steps with computational data and steps to achieve understandability and reproducibility. We explain the important classes and properties of the ontology and how they are mapped to existing ontologies like PROV-O and P-Plan. The ontology is evaluated by answering competency questions over the knowledge base of scientific experiments consisting of computational and non-computational data and steps. Conclusion We have designed and developed an interoperable way to represent the complete path of a scientific experiment consisting of computational and non-computational steps. We have applied and evaluated our approach to a set of scientific experiments in different subject domains like computational science, biological imaging, and microscopy.

Introduction. The research is focused on studying self-organization of the personality in aspect of subjectness. The technique of modeling of social and role identification of the personality is presented. The research objective - to define semantic constructs self-updating in modeling of personal identification. Methods and techniques.- Semantic approach in structuring dichotomizing couples of constructs of personal identification is used. Offered original technique "Semantic Modelling of Self-organization of the Personality" ("SMSOP"). Respondents fill "Repertoire lattices" of J. Kelly. Results of sample are factorized. Respondents make modeling of in images "I am-real", "I am-ideal" and also images of "The Self-updated Personality" (SUP) and "Nonconformist" (NC), using a set of the linguistic constructs received by means of repertoire lattices of J. Kelly). The participants are 218 psychology students. Results and discussion. Comparative data of self-renewing constructs (in the aspect of "I-ideal") and the SUP and Oil Company models are shown. Although soup is a reference model of personality achievements (according to A. Maslow et al.), a NK reveals the properties of self-affirmation, In the semantics of mental self-organization (MSS) of a personality, respondents are not fully focused on these standards. The results of the factor analysis showed the peculiarities of the semantics of the students' personality MCO in the aspect of self-renewal ("I-ideal"): emotional spontaneity and, at the same time, fortitude and self-confidence, as well as communication and well-being in life (associated with intelligence, ingenuity). Conclusions.- The semantics of self-renewing personalities is revealed to young people in positions that determine the possible, achievable aspects of the perspective of their life. The SUP and NC models are "perfect" for them.

The paper argues that the quality of idiom translations depends on the appropriate strategy used while translating them because idiomatic expressions cannot be translated from their words. This study was carried out to describe the meaning of the idiomatic expression and the application of Chesterman's strategies in translating idioms and identify the speech acts of the utterances conveyed by the speaker in the data. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. The data were gathered from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. The study also used their Indonesian version to find out the translation of the idiomatic expressions. One hundred five quotes were taken from the novels. As a result, Unit Shift appears more frequently in the novel as a syntactic strategy followed by Scheme Change. Furthermore, in terms of semantic approach, distribution Change is the most common strategy that emerges from the novels, followed by Trope Change. The Assertive Act is the most dominant act delivered by the speaker behind the utterances in speech acts.

This study reveals verses about the house with the aim of finding the concept of the house from the perspective of the Qur’an. The mention of the word house in the Qur’an is mentioned in various ways, namely al-bait, al-maskan, al-ma’wa and al-dar. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the home is the focus of all activities. The whole concept of the house from the perspective of the Qur’an is very necessary to maximize the function of the house according to the instructions of the Qur’an. The method used in this study is the thematic method, namely the method of interpreting the Qur’an which seeks to explain the verses of the Qur’an by referring to a particular subject so that it can produce a more systematic understanding. The thematic method was chosen because it was considered more appropriate to comprehensively build the Qur’anic concept on a particular theme. In revealing certain meanings, this research uses a semantic approach. The semantic approach is used to understand reality through language correctly, while at the same time linking meaning to the fact of using language in a situational context. This study concludes that house ownership in the Qur’an is attributed to Allah swt., to humans and to animals. While the function of the house in the Qur’an is mentioned as a place to live, a place of worship, a prison for adulterers and as a place to get security. Manners related to the house in the Qur’an have special details. The Qur’an regulates the etiquette of visiting both in an inhabited house and an uninhabited house. In particular, the Qur’an also regulates the etiquette of visiting the house of the Prophet Muhammad, and regulates eating etiquette at the house of close relatives. Konsep utuh tentang rumah perspektif al-Qur’an sangat diperlukan untuk memaksimalkan fungsi rumah sesuai petunjuk al-Qur’an.

AbstractFew studies have investigated emotional experiences in people living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). However, self-conscious emotions, including embarrassment and shame, are indicated as a key factor in delayed help-seeking for bowel symptoms, which can result in poorer health outcomes. This study aimed to explore experiences of self-conscious emotions among people with IBD. Fifteen participants were recruited from outpatient IBD clinics and patient groups, and engaged in semi-structured interviews about their experiences of IBD-related self-consciousness. Data were analysed using thematic analysis following an inductive, semantic approach and conducted from a critical realist position. The analysis generated two themes, each with three sub-themes, which captured self-conscious emotions in relation to experiences which threatened participants’ preferred identities. The first theme, ‘Lack of control’ encapsulated participants’ distress relating to fundamental alteration in self-perception, and their attempts to mitigate this. The second, ‘Lack of understanding’ captured distress associated with awareness of being unfairly judged by other people. Clinical implications are identified, including consideration of therapeutic approaches which target self-conscious emotions such as shame, and continued societal efforts to educate others about invisible disabilities such as IBD. Experiences which threatened participants’ identities were implicated in the generation of self-conscious emotions; these should be considered in work with clients with IBD. Future research should target further investigation of these constructs.

As the need for more broad-scale solutions to environmental problems is increasingly recognized, traditional hierarchical, government-led models of coordination are being supplemented by or transformed into more collaborative inter-organizational networks (i.e., collaboratives, coalitions, partnerships). As diffuse networks, such regional environmental planning and design (REPD) efforts often face challenges in sharing and using spatial and other types of information. Recent advances in semantic knowledge management technologies, such as knowledge graphs, have the potential to address these challenges. In this paper, we first describe the information needs of three multi-stakeholder REPD initiatives in the western USA using a list of 80 need-to-know questions and concerns. The top needs expressed were for help in tracking the participants, institutions, and information products relevant to the REDP’s focus. To address these needs, we developed a prototype knowledge graph based on RDF and GeoSPARQL standards. This semantic approach provided a more flexible data structure than traditional relational databases and also functionality to query information across different providers; however, the lack of semantic data expertise, the complexity of existing software solutions, and limited online hosting options are significant barriers to adoption. These same barriers are more acute for geospatial data, which also faces the added challenge of maintaining and synchronizing both semantic and traditional geospatial datastores.
