The article presents the results of simulations that take into account the optical parameters of the selected sea region (from literature data on the southern Baltic Sea) and two optically extreme types of crude oil (from historical data) which exist in the form of a highly watered-down oil-in-water emulsion (10 ppm). The spectral index was analyzed based on the results of modeling the radiance reflectance distribution for almost an entire hemisphere of the sky (zenith angle from 0 to 80°). The spectral index was selected and is universal for all optically different types of oil (wavelengths of 650 and 412 nm). The possibility of detecting pollution in the conditions of the wavy sea surface (as a result of wind of up to 10 m/s) was studied. It was also shown that if the viewing direction is close to a direction perpendicular to the sea surface, observations aimed at determining the spectral index are less effective than observations under the zenith angle of incidence of sunlight for all azimuths excluding the direction of sunlight’s specular reflection.

This study used the properties of amino acid residues to screen antioxidant peptides from hazelnut protein. It was confirmed that the type and position of amino acid residues, grand average of hydropathy, and molecular weight of a peptide could be comprehensively applied to obtain desirable antioxidants after analyzing the information of synthesized dipeptides and BIOPEP database. As a result, six peptides, FSEY, QIESW, SEGFEW, IDLGTTY, GEGFFEM, and NLNQCQRYM were identified from hazelnut protein hydrolysates with higher antioxidant capacity than reduced Glutathione (GSH) against linoleic acid oxidation. The peptides having Tyr residue at C-terminal were found to prohibit the oxidation of linoleic acid better than others. Among them, peptide FSEY inhibited the rancidity of hazelnut oil very well in an oil-in-water emulsion. Additionally, quantum chemical parameters proved Tyr-residue to act as the active site of FSEY are responsible for its antioxidation. This is the first presentation of a novel approach to excavating desired antioxidant peptides against lipid oxidation from hazelnut protein via the properties of amino acid residues.

Abstract In this study, microcapsules as potential candidates for self-healing agents were prepared by in situ polymerisation, taking place in oil-in-water emulsion. Poly(melamine-formaldehyde) is employed as shell material and diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A as polymerisable core materials and Pentaerythritol Tetrakis(3-Mercaptopropionate) as its hardener. The geometry, shell features, size distributions, core content, and the reactivity of the microcapsules were studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), optical microscopy (OM), Soxhlet extraction method and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Microcapsules with different sizes and distributions were obtained by adjusting the stirring speeds during the preparation stage. From the results, it was established that the spherical microcapsules fabricated using this technique, resulted in satisfactory size and shell structure with shell thickness of less than 2 μm. The microcapsules possess high core content at about 90 wt.% for each size range of microcapsules and it was also observed that the viscosity of the core content decreased at an elevated temperature. The results obtained in this work indicate that these microcapsules possess the characteristics that can be potentially used for self-healing applications.
