Abstract The British Protestant children’s missionary movement of the nineteenth and early- to mid-twentieth century was an educational movement, wherein philanthropy and pedagogy went hand in hand. Bringing an educational lens to bear on this group provides a more cohesive interpretive framework by which to make sense of the various elements than hitherto has been considered. As such, the Protestant children’s missionary movement emerges historically as a much more complex entity than simply a means of raising money or cramming heads full of knowledge. Across a range of geographic settings it acted as: a key site of juvenile religious and identity formation; a defining vehicle for the creation and maintenance of various types or scales of community (local, denominational, emotional, regional, national or global); a movement within which civic and religious messages were emphatically conflated (especially with respect to nation and empire); and in which children both participated in imperial or quasi-global networks of information exchange (especially as consumers of missionary periodicals) and became informed, active and responsive agents of missionary support in their own right.

The role of categories of knowledge, or disciplines, in science has not previously been explored in scientonomy. While disciplinary communities devoted to the production of knowledge are a modern phenomenon, the practice of dividing knowledge into categories is a universal feature of science. Although at any moment of time, many questions and theories can be part of a given discipline, not all of these are essential to the discipline. We show that two components are essential to a discipline: the discipline’s core questions as well as the discipline’s delineating theory, a second-order theory that identifies these questions as essential to the discipline. If the questions of one discipline are a proper subset of the questions of another discipline, the former discipline is a subdiscipline of the latter. Since a discipline is a complex entity consisting of questions and a theory, epistemic agents can take epistemic stances towards disciplines. A discipline is said to be accepted if its core questions and its delineating theory are all accepted. To illustrate the applicability of these new concepts, the transition from physical to biological anthropology is discussed.

Pregnancy-related breast cancer is defined as breast cancer diagnosed during pregnancy or within a year after delivery. In current report, 3 cases of breast cancer, diagnosed during pregnancy are presented. Different diagnostic challenges, different therapeutic methods and major influences of breast cancer on obstetrical outcomes are also discussed in current report. In current case series, the three patients had ages of 36, 40 and 44 years old. They were all diagnosed as having breast cancer during pregnancy. Diagnosis was achieved using imaging, and histopathology through breast biopsy. The histological type was not otherwise specified breast cancer in all three cases. Delivery was vaginal in two cases and through caesarean section in one case. Interruption of pregnancy was performed in one case. A bad prognosis was observed in one patient with death after chemotherapy and surgery, and a favourable evolution was observed in the two other cases. The management of this complex entity must be multidisciplinary.

Cancer is a complex entity with multiple components affecting a tumor growth, invasion and metastasis. Traditionally cancer treatments have focused on tumor cells. Microenvironment also has role in tumor behavior. Biological agents that target components of the tumor microenvironment may provide an alternative to traditional therapy. Because of the complexity of the tumor milieu the most beneficial therapy will likely involve the combination of one or more agents directed at the microenvironment.

The study of the mechanism for ensuring nationality made it possible to determine the internal links of legal responsibility as a complex entity, as well as external links with other applied law enforcement means. Changes in threats that are caused by both illegal acts and an increase in the number of anomalies with legal content require reconfiguring the institution of legal responsibili-

AbstractThis study deals with subject predicate agreement in Czech and the structure of a null subject. First, it introduces the concept of Null Subject Languages as it has been used in a generative framework. Then it shows the complex feature content of the Czech subject-predicate agreement morphology, arguing that the data repeatedly signal a division of the agreement features into two clear cut feature sets and two distinct agreement domains: (a) the lower, lexical domain inside vP containing the nominal n[±φ] feature set (Gender and N-Number), and (b) the higher, functional domain on the T head, which contains the functional D[±φ] feature set (Person and D-Number). The study relates the analysis to the present day microparametric concept of a Null Subject Parameter as in, e. g., the studies in Biberauer (2010), accepting the hypothesis of the checking of the subject-predicate agreement with two levels of predicate (separate heads v and T). It proposes that with pronominal subjects, the φ feature values can be re-set with respect to the speech act information located in the Aboutness Topic. Given the several levels of agreement, each of which can be licensed by a zero morpheme, the study proposes that pro is a complex entity consisting of two separate parts, each endowed with a distinct set of φ features.

Ulnar-sided wrist pain is a complex entity to diagnose clinically and frequently requires imaging to help confirm or determine the diagnosis. This article reviews the imaging and the logical imaging pathway of the common causes of ulnar-sided wrist pain, and illustrates various pathologies. It also discusses appropriate imaging modalities for various conditions. The causes of ulnar-sided wrist pain are stratified according to the affected anatomical structures, such as bony, soft tissue or neurovascular aetiologies. This review provides a handy imaging framework for non-radiologist clinicians of the common conditions producing ulnar-sided wrist pain. A linked article ( 10.12968/hmed.2019.80.8.456 ) detailing the diagnosis of ulnar-sided wrist pain is included in this issue.
