This paper discusses Leadership and Islam Wasathiyah Perspective of The Qur'an, Hadith and 'Ulama. The leadership displayed by a leader is an implication of his ability to manage his emotional intelligence and spiritual intelligence. Goleman in Abd. Kadim Masaong said that optimizing the management of emotional intelligence will produce four competency domains that are very effective in creating a leadership style, namely, the domains of selfawareness, self-management, social awareness and relationship management. Tawassuth is an attitude that is in the middle or between two attitudes, namely not too far to the right (fundamentalist) and too far to the left (liberalist). With this tawassuth attitude, Islam will be easily accepted in all walks of life. The character of tawassuth in Islam is the middle point between the two ends and it is a virtue that has been placed by Allah Subhana wata'ala from the start. The value of tawassuth, which has become a principle in Islam, needs to be applied in all fields so that the religion of Islam and the religious expressions of Muslims become witnesses of measuring the truth for all human attitudes and behavior in general.

Purpose This paper aims to identify the competency domains to be included in a conceptual framework for tax literacy. Design/methodology/approach Using a qualitative approach, this study expands on the current understanding of the competency areas of tax literacy. A dual-purpose literature review was, therefore, conducted. The literature review first provided the body of knowledge that underpinned the study and second, the key data concepts for the draft competency structure to determine whether there is consensus on an international (supra) level. The literature review was supported by an interactive qualitative analysis to further present the concept of tax literacy from the perspectives of various national stakeholders in an emerging economy. Accounting and public finance educators from a higher education institution, as well as financial advisers as representatives of a profession with a direct interest in tax-related matters, were considered. Findings Although a discipline lens seems to strongly influence the previous authors’ view of what tax literacy means, it was possible to identify certain tax literacy competency domains that should be included in a taxpayer education curriculum. These content domains consist first of a knowledge domain which includes disciplinary, interdisciplinary, epistemic and procedural knowledge components. Second, the skills domain should include components of cognitive and meta-cognitive, social and emotional, as well as physical and practice skills. Third, personal and societal attitudes and values represent the third domain. Fourth, transformative competencies such as value creation, taking responsibility and reconciliation attributes are important. Finally, core foundational competencies, such as numeracy and literacy should be in place. Practical implications The draft conceptual framework for tax literacy could serve as the foundation for the further development of a tax literacy measurement instrument, as well as tax education courses. Originality/value A more holistic conceptual framework for tax literacy, portraying the multidimensional nature of taxation, is presented in contrast to the limited one-dimensional position presented up to now.

Background and objective: One of the strategies used to prepare novice nurses for their professional journeys in clinical practice is by implementing the preceptorship teaching and learning model. Competencies such as knowledge, experience, abilities, and attributes need to be measured to ensure the desired outcomes of the preceptorship are achieved and consistent. This study aimed to develop a nurse preceptor competency domain guide tool at a tertiary hospital in Oman.Methods: Three-round Delphi iterative design with experts was used to develop the nurse preceptor competency domain guide tool. Following standard measures, eight expert opinions were combined until a group consensus was achieved. The level of consensus within the expert panel was defined as ≥ 75% scoring of items were selected as an essential required competency/item.Results: Eight experts from a main tertiary hospital were included in the panel. Five core competency domains and five subdomains were identified and considered to be relevant for nurse preceptors at the hospital with consensus levels varying from 75% to 100%. A total of 83 descriptive items were identified for the competency guide tool.Conclusions: This study found that the main core competency domains of the tool that nurse preceptors should acquire to be competent preceptors are inter-professional communication skills, appropriate teaching strategies, time management skills, building a learning atmosphere, and coaching critical thinking. This tool would improve nurse preceptors’ performance and equip them with the required prerequisite competencies to professionally start their journey in clinical practices. Follow-up research on tool implementation is highly recommended to evaluate its effectiveness.

Abstract Background Competency-based education (CBE) equips health professionals with the requisite competencies for health systems performance. This study aimed to develop and validate a CBE model suitable for teaching Human Nutrition/Human Nutrition and Dietetics (HN/HND) at the undergraduate level in Uganda. Methods The study was undertaken in two main phases, (1) competency needs assessment and (2) model development and content validation. The later had three iterative stages: a needs assessment results validation workshop; an expert focus group discussion to develop a draft CBE model framework; and consensus development-itself undertaken in two modified Delphi rounds to ascertain participant consensus on the relevance and suitability of the competency domains, subdomains, and statements comprised in the developed draft CBE framework for undergraduate HN/HND training in Uganda. In the modified Delphi process, participants indicated the degree to which they agreed or disagreed with each of the given statements on five-point Likert-type items of strongly disagree, disagree, neither agree nor disagree, agree, and strongly agree as well as the level of training they recommended the given competency statement to be learned. The workshop had 31 participants, the focus group eight, while the first and second Delphi rounds had 70 and 55 participants respectively. Results In total, seven competency domains, 24 subdomains, and 190 competency statements were developed. Content analysis and analysis of percentage responses for each competency statement were done with participant consensus set at ≥80%. All the seven domains (100%); 22 (91.7%) of the 24 subdomains; and 153 (87.9%) of the 174 analysed competency statements were evaluated as both relevant and suitable for undergraduate HN/HND training and hence included in the validated CBE model. Conclusion This study evaluated the relevancy and suitability of seven competency domains prevention and management of malnutrition; nutrition in the lifecycle; food security, food safety, agriculture, and livelihoods promotion; ethics and professionalism in nutrition and dietetics; research and data analysis; policy, advocacy, and social and behaviour change communication; and nutrition leadership and management for undergraduate HN/HND training in Uganda. The study recommends translating the developed CBE model into a standard curriculum that can be taught and evaluated.

Abstract Academic assessment of student competency is essential to measure learning within a gerontology program. In its self-evaluation, a program must assess its student learning outcomes. JoAnn Damron-Rodriguez et al. (2019, p. 423) proposed a systematic approach that has several levels. The key is to utilize a competency-based education model. Moreover, to satisfy workforce goals the gerontology program must adopt the AGHE competencies that reflect the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to serve older adults at an acceptable level of care. The next step involves generating well-articulated quantitative or qualitative measures of student learning outcomes (SLOs) consistent with the program’s mission statement that include twelve competency domains. SLO measures include test grades, assignments, projects, portfolios, field experiences, essay questions, multiple choice items, and so on. The program’s enhancement loop requires the evaluation of SLOs, faculty discussion of them, and a continuous modification cycle "closing the loop" to reach the program’s goals.

Abstract Aim This study aimed to analyse the degree of relative variation in specialty-specific competencies required for Certification of Completion of Training (CCT) set by the UK Joint Committee for Surgical Training (JCST) 2021 curriculum. Methods Regulatory body guidance related to operative and non-operative surgical skill competencies required for CCT were analysed and compared. Results Wide inter-speciality variation was demonstrated in the minimum number of logbook cases (median 815; range 54-2100), indexed operations (8; 5-24), Procedure Based Assessments (35; 6-110). Academic competencies related to peer reviewed publications, communications to learned societies, and audits were aligned at zero, zero, and three across specialties respectively. Mandatory courses have been standardised with Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) being the sole pre-requisite CCT for all. Discussion JCST certification guidelines have broadly standardised competency domains, yet large discrepancies persist regarding operative indicative numbers, and assessments. This article serves as a definitive CCT guide regarding prevailing changes.

Abstract Background The learning opportunities for global health professionals have expanded rapidly in recent years. The diverse array of learners and wide range in course quality underscore the need for an improved course vetting process to better match learners with appropriate learning opportunities. Methods We developed a framework to assess overall course quality by determining performance across four defined domains Relevance, Engagement, Access, and Pedagogy (REAP). We applied this framework across a learning catalogue developed for participants enrolled in the Sustaining Technical and Analytic Resources (STAR) project, a global health leadership training program. Results The STAR learning activities database included a total of 382 courses, workshops, and web-based resources which fulfilled 531 competencies across three levels: core, content, and skill. Relevance: The majority of activities were at an understanding or practicing level across all competency domains (486/531, 91.5%). Engagement: Many activities lacked any peer engagement (202/531, 38.0%) and had limited to no faculty engagement (260/531, 49.0%). Access: The plurality of courses across competencies were offered on demand (227/531, 42.7%) and were highly flexible in pace (240/531, 45.2%). Pedagogy: Of the activities that included an assessment, most matched activity learning objectives (217/531, 40.9%). Conclusions Through applying REAP to the STAR project learning catalogue, we found many online activities lacked meaningful engagement with faculty and peers. Further development of structured online activities providing learners with flexibility in access, a range of levels of advancement for content, and opportunities to engage and apply learning are needed for the field of global health.
