Much research has identified the difficulties of promoting women’s empowerment using microcredit, but there has been little research on the potential for empowerment from promoting women’s savings. We address this gap through a qualitative study of three women’s savings programmes in the Highlands of Peru. The results reveal changes in several domains of women’s lives (economic, personal and relational), emphasizing that these programmes enable them to think about the future, expand their social support networks, and become entrepreneurs. We conclude that savings interventions have considerable advantage over microcredit programmes for facilitating female empowerment and that the merits of these interventions go far beyond financial inclusion with significant impacts on women’s psychosocial well-being and broader empowerment.

This chapter sets out and evaluates our second main proposal: the Destination-based Cash Flow Tax (DBCFT). This has two basic components: (a) a ‘cash flow’ element, which gives immediate relief to all expenditure, and (b) a ‘destination-based’ element, which introduces border adjustments of the same form as under the value added tax (VAT): exports are untaxed, while imports are taxed. This is equivalent in its economic impact to introducing a broad-based, uniform rate VAT and making a corresponding reduction in taxes on wages and salaries. A central motivation for the DBCFT is to improve economic efficiency by taxing business income in a relatively immobile location; the DBCFT should not distort either the scale or the location of business investment. It also has the considerable advantage of being robust against avoidance through inter-company transactions.

The threat posed by novel pandemics in the future remain active. Equipping our routine laboratory with clinical metagenomics to detect unknown threats early on offers a considerable advantage, and may be feasible and scalable with the ability to identify complicated infectious diseases in routine care. Though several technical and regulatory challenges still exist, clinical metagenomics may improve individual patient outcomes, and provide earlier warning signs to improve pandemic preparedness.

Since the beginning of operations in 2014, Port of Açu has shown significant growth in relation to cargo handling, with all demand dependent on road transport. However, there is a proposal for the implementation of the EF-118 railway that would interconnect Rio de Janeiro and Vitória, serving the region of Port. This work seeks to economically evaluate the advantages of the implementation of the railway modal compared to the roadway already used in the region. Due to the intense flow of cargo in the Industrial-Port Complex, the possibility of building a new highway, the RJ-244, is being studied, extending from the industrial district to BR-101. For this purpose, surveys were conducted to determine the average daily volume of vehicles circulating in the region, in addition to the different types of cargo transported and their relationship with Port. Based on the information collected in the Traffic Studies Report issued, it was possible to relate data and achieve at the value of the average annual daily volume for each category of cargo handled in the Port. Bearing in mind that in 2019, Port of Açu handled approximately 751 thousand tons of cargo and analyzing the estimated costs by ABIFER for road and rail transport, the approximate cost values for each one per ton of cargo per kilometer were reached. Comparing values, it is possible to notice that the cost of transporting cargo by rail corresponds to about 16.6% of the amount spent on transporting of the same weight of cargo by road, which means a considerable advantage for its implementation.

During the immediate years after the defeat at the battle of Ipsus, Demetrius continued to rebuild his fortunes by raiding Lysimachus’ territories in the Thracian Chersonese, making use of his powerful navy, which proved to be a considerable advantage. A series of political marriage alliances among the other Successors and their families prompted a quick shuffling of relationships and loyalties. The marriage of Seleucus and Demetrius’ daughter Stratonice gave Demetrius the leverage and power he needed in order to embark upon even more ambitious projects. This marriage was extremely unusual in that Stratonice was later divorced and remarried to her stepson Antiochus I, a famous arrangement brokered by Seleucus himself.

This chapter examines how the Supreme Court confirmation process of Justice Brett Kavanaugh closely followed a white male heterosexual double standard that is often at the center of political sex scandals, one inspired by the evangelical norms that this book has discussed. Kavanaugh was the 2018 Supreme Court nominee (and current Justice) accused by Dr. Christine Blasey Ford of a sexual assault. The chapter analyzes the Ford/Kavanaugh testimonies in relationship to the Anita Hill/Clarence Thomas case. This comparison highlights the racial and gendered mechanics by which all four characters were judged. While Ford was regarded by many as a credible witness from the standpoint of her demeanor and testimony, the author argues that Kavanaugh was able to draw on a variety of raced and gendered symbols that solidified the support of his political peers, including Donald Trump. In short, Kavanaugh’s demeanor as a white, angry, sexualized adolescent granted him a considerable advantage.

In the last 40 years CAD engineering has taken a considerable advantage in all domains. This has been imposed by the changes that have occurred in most of the environments with which engineering interacts in general, as well as by the technological advancement that has made the use of computers that have become increasingly efficient and are now indispensable to the technology [1]. The tendency of this period was consumer because prices fell as a consequence of globalization, the technique evolved, the standards became very rigorous, and the laws began to protect the consumer more.

On the leg of one of the colossal statues on the facade of the great funerary temple of Ramesses II at Abu Simbel, in Nubia, Archon son of Amoibichos and Peleqos son of Eudamos, two mercenaries of Greek-Carian origin who militated in the ranks of the Egyptian Army, engrave a five lines inscription in which they recall the salient data of the expedition against the Nubian populations launched by the pharaoh of the XXVI dynasty Psammethicus II between 593 and 592 BC. The different origins of the people who left their mark in this and in the other graffiti on the Abu Simbel temple, explained by the palaeographic and dialectal peculiarities of the texts, confirm what we can learn from other sources, above all Herodotus, on the opening of the Saitic Egypt to external presences, also organised in stable settlements. The reasons for such a reception were certainly of an economic nature, but it is undeniable that for the Egyptians a considerable advantage came also from the possibility of exploiting the new military potentials of the Greek hoplite tactics, contributing to the spread of a mercenary service that encouraged different degrees of ethnic and social integration.

This paper presents a kinematic and dynamic analysis and distribution of the stress for four-item planar mechanism by means of the SolidWorks software. Graphic dependence of kinematic and dynamic magnitudes of some points is given in dependence on the angle of rotation of the driving item and in dependence on the time. Distribution of the stress in the items is presented in [Pa]. In relation to the kinematic and dynamic analysis and subsequent simulation of the planar as well as spatial mechanisms, it is great solution to use SolidWorks software program. The considerable advantage of this mentioned program is based on its simplicity from the aspect of modeling and moreover, it is important to point out that utilisation of the mentioned program leads to results which are precise and accurate in the case of the numerical solution of the equations in the whole magnitude referring to motion of mechanism while the given results are obtained in the graphic form.

AbstractDatabase query engines use pull-based or push-based approaches to avoid the materialization of data across query operators. In this paper, we study these two types of query engines in depth and present the limitations and advantages of each engine. Similarly, the programming languages community has developed loop fusion techniques to remove intermediate collections in the context of collection programming. We draw parallels between databases (DB) and programming language (PL) research by demonstrating the connection between pipelined query engines and loop fusion techniques. Based on this connection, we propose a new type of pull-based engine, inspired by a loop fusion technique, which combines the benefits of both approaches. Then, we experimentally evaluate the various engines, in the context of query compilation, for the first time in a fair environment, eliminating the biasing impact of ancillary optimizations that have traditionally only been used with one of the approaches. We show that for realistic analytical workloads, there is no considerable advantage for either form of pipelined query engine, as opposed to what recent research suggests. Also, by using micro-benchmarks, which demonstrate certain edge cases on which one approach or the other performs better, we show that our proposed engine dominates the existing engines by combining the benefits of both.
