COVID-19 has emerged as the most impactful pandemic after the Spanish flu. As communities adjust to a life with COVID-19 it has become essential to employ different behavioral mechanisms of prevention to curtail community transmission. Perceptual factors such as risk perception and locus of control play a role in the level of stress experienced and the likelihood of employing behavioral methods for the prevention of the spread of the virus. The present cross sectional study utilized four questionnaires measuring COVID-19 related risk perception, COVID-19 related stress, locus of control and adherence to safety measures. The sample consisted of 371 undergraduate students representing all academic years in the Faculty of Arts in the University of Peradeniya,Sri Lanka. A significant relationship was found between COVID-19 risk perception and COVID-19 stress. Increase in internal locus of control was reflective of lower levels of risk perception and COVID-19 related stress. However adherence to safety measures did not have a significant association with COVID-19 risk perception, COVID-19 related stress or their level of internal locus of control. COVID-19 risk perception was also predictive of COVID-19 stress while increasing internal locus of control and adherence to safety measures were not. This suggests perception of risk to be the key predictive factor for the psychological wellbeing of undergraduate students in this study during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Guided by a proactive coping theory, this online, cross-sectional study examined whether income, savings, debt service-to-income ratio, reluctance to think about finances, locus of control, and financial management competency were related to financial wellness. Based on data from a United States sample (N = 1,039), results of hierarchical regressions indicated that financial management competency, internal locus of control, and savings were positively associated with financial wellness, explaining 43.5% of the variance. Results suggest that, rather than resources themselves, resource allocation and perceived usefulness of financial actions are most critical to financial wellness. Educators and practitioners can emphasize proactive coping through behavioral approaches to financial management that foster greater internal locus of control and financial wellness.

BACKGROUND Students from various backgrounds and places join graduation courses in Dentistry. The environmental influence on them is varied. Academic self-concept also has been found to be a significant predictor of students’ academic achievement in the college resulting in an increase in the grade point average of the students. This study was conducted to examine the relationship between the student and their academic relationship to the environment in the dental school which is the internal and external locus of control. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study. The method of collection of data is through a questionnaire. The questionnaire had details related to the demographic data of gender and year of study in the dental school. Questions on locus of control have been adapted from the Rotter’s Locus of Control Scale. Statistical analysis was conducted using IBM SPSS version 23. Chi square test was used to test the associations between the variables and a value of < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS 402 participants including students from 2nd year to internship filled the survey questionnaire. In general, majority of the participants displayed a higher external locus of control. CONCLUSIONS The study participants who responded showed more external locus of control compared to the internal locus of control. Strategies should be planned and tailored to improve student support and student education. They should include a very comprehensive orientation to the students including both long term and short-term objectives. The topic of self-disclosure has been explored significantly and considered to greatly impact employees' relationships. Thus, this chapter explores the association between personality integration and self-disclosure considering how locus of control acts as a mediator. The sample was collected from public and private sector organizations in Uttarakhand. The data was collected through a cross-sectional survey-based research design, and a convenience sampling method was used. Thus, a total of 192 questionnaires were distributed during office hours. In the final analysis, only 189 responses were considered; the rest were discarded due to missing data. The authors use correlation and four-step hierarchical multiple regression analyses. Results show that internal locus of control partially mediates said association. Further, it was found that personality integration is positively associated with self-disclosure through internal locus of control. Additionally, external locus of control has a positive effect on self-disclosure. Implications and scope for future research is highlighted.

The awareness of citizens concerning the health risks caused by environmental pollution is growing, but studies on determinants of pro-environmental behaviors have rarely examined health-related aspects. In this study, we investigated these determinants using data from a large survey among Italian university students (15 Universities: 4778 filled questionnaires). Besides the health-related aspects, represented by environmental health risk perception and functional health literacy, we considered social and demographic characteristics (gender, area of residence, sources of information, trust in institutional and non-institutional subjects, and students’ capacity of positive actions, indicated as internal locus of control). The attitudes towards pro-environmental behaviors were positive for more than 70% of students and positively related with health risk perception, internal locus of control, and health literacy. The correspondence between the positive attitudes towards pro-environmental behaviors and the real adoption of such behaviors was approximately 20% for most behaviors, except for the separate collection of waste (60%). Such a discrepancy can be attributable to external obstacles (i.e., lack of time, costs, lack of support). The health-related aspects were linked to the pro-environmental attitudes, but to a lesser extent to pro-environmental behaviors, owing to the complexity of their determinants. However, they should be taken in account in planning education interventions.

BACKGROUND: Cervical cancer is one of the main reproductive health problems, and it is a cause of death to women in the world, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. Inspection visual of acetic acid (IVA) is an inexpensive and effective initial examination to detect cervical cancer. AIM: The aim of the study was to find out the correlation of the locus of control and the behavior of early detection of cervical cancer by the IVA method. METHODS: The research design was a cross-sectional study. The sample of the study was 393 respondents. The sampling technique was multi-stage random sampling, conducted at nine community health centers (Puskesmas) in Kediri City. The instruments used in the study were a questionnaire that had been tested for its validity and reliability for locus of control, and observation sheets for the early detection of cervical cancer by the IVA method. The data analysis technique used is the Spearman rho test with a value of α = 0.05. RESULTS: Spearman rho test results obtained a significance value of 0.000 lower than that of α = 0.05, meaning there was a significant correlation between the locus of control variable and behavior of early detection of cervical cancer by IVA method. CONCLUSION: The conclusion was that there was a significant correlation between the locus of control variable and the early detection behavior of cervical cancer by the IVA method. The higher the internal locus of control in a woman, the better the behavior of early detection of cervical cancer by the IVA method.
