Fisherfolks participate in unsafe sexual behaviors which can predispose them to HIV infection. This research was designed to assess the effects of training on HIV/AIDS-related knowledge and sexual behavior among fisherfolks in two fishing communities in Nigeria. Respondents were allocated into Experimental Group (EG, n = 103) and Control Group (CG, n = 105). Data were collected at baseline using a questionnaire which included questions on socio-demographic characteristics, sexual behavior among others. A 3-day HIV/AIDS training was conducted for EG. Fisherfolks in EG and CG with good knowledge were 16.5% and 54.3%, respectively at baseline. The number increased to 100.0% in EG than CG (60%) at follow-up. At baseline, fisherfolks in EG and CG with high riskperception scores were 26.2% and 59.0%, respectively; corresponding figures at post intervention for EG and CG were 100.0% and 70.0% respectively. Training increased HIV/AIDS knowledge, improved risk perception and reduced risky sexual practices among fisherfolks.

This study is devoted to the methodology of teaching Russian grammar based on teaching aids in Russian and foreign universities. The purpose of the study is to identify the features of modeling educational information in the classroom on grammar using visual teaching aids (training table). The paper describes the methodological foundations of modeling as a process of visualization of educational information, describes the specific features of sign-symbolic modeling in the classroom of Russian as a foreign language. It is concluded that it is necessary to rethink the traditional approach to modulating learning tables in the Russian language as an auxiliary means of teaching and the possibility of modeling tables in grammar as a means of presenting educational information in the classroom in Russian as a foreign language. The analysis of visual teaching aids presented in textbooks on Russian as a foreign language is carried out.

Understanding of laypersons perceptions related to their participation in first aids training programs is a precondition to tailor strategies that facilitate and optimize that participation. The aim of the present study was to explore participants’ motivations and expectations attending a first aids training program, as well as to describe the hindering factors. A qualitative research design was conducted and a self-reported semi-structured questionnaire developed for data collection. A convenience sample (n=25) of pharmacy staff members was recruited. Content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data. From those who participated, seventeen women and three men, whose median/average age was 36,7 years old (ranging from 25 to 50 years old), returned the questionnaire fully completed. The analysis reflected three issues describing participants’ motivations for attending a first aids training program, including “personal development”, “strengthening role” and “value of offering”. In addition, the issues “individual level” and “collective level” emerged from describing trainees’ expectations. Participant’s attending such a program was hindered by “organizational related factors”, “work related factors” and “individual related factors”. This study contributes to the existing research area gaining a better understanding of the participants’ willingness to attend training activities. Identified hindering factors for participation should be considered, stimulating changes in the organization and the delivery of high quality and individual-appropriate educational programs. Keywords: motivations, expectations, hindering factors, first aids, training program, qualitative research

IntroductionDespite the observed and theoretical advantages of shared decision-making in a range of clinical contexts, including contraceptive care, there remains a paucity of evidence on how to facilitate its adoption. This paper describes the protocol for a study to assess the comparative effectiveness of patient-targeted and provider-targeted interventions for facilitating shared decision-making about contraceptive methods. Methods and analysisWe will conduct a 2×2 factorial cluster randomised controlled trial with four arms: (1) video+prompt card, (2) decision aids+training, (3) video+prompt cardanddecision aids+training and (4) usual care. The clusters will be clinics in USA that deliver contraceptive care. The participants will be people who have completed a healthcare visit at a participating clinic, were assigned female sex at birth, are aged 15–49 years, are able to read and write English or Spanish and have not previously participated in the study. The primary outcome will be shared decision-making about contraceptive methods. Secondary outcomes will be the occurrence of a conversation about contraception in the healthcare visit, satisfaction with the conversation about contraception, intended contraceptive method(s), intention to use a highly effective method, values concordance of the intended method(s), decision regret, contraceptive method(s) used, use of a highly effective method, use of the intended method(s), adherence, satisfaction with the method(s) used, unintended pregnancy and unwelcome pregnancy. We will collect study data via longitudinal patient surveys administered immediately after the healthcare visit, four weeks later and six months later.Ethics and disseminationWe will disseminate results via presentations at scientific and professional conferences, papers published in peer-reviewed, open-access journals and scientific and lay reports. We will also make an anonymised copy of the final participant-level dataset available to others for research purposes.Trial registration numberClinicalTrials.gov Identifier:NCT02759939.
