: A facile methodology has been developed to build carbon nitrogen double bond from ketones promoted by the hydroxyl groups in β-phenol hydroxy ketone. It is noteworthy that the halogenated β-phenol hydroxy ketone can chemoselectively react with amine to afford halogenated phenol imine. It is suitable for certain natural products and also suitable for water-based heteroamines. The method is low toxicity, widely applicable. This strategy is usually used to obtain moderate to good yields of aromatic amine Schiff base.

We report for the first time a metal-free addition of boronic acids to silylnitronates to afford oxime derivatives through aryl transfer on the carbon nitrogen double bond. A reaction mechanism has been proposed in relation with a DFT study on the key aryl transfer. This arylation process is effective for cycloalkenyl nitro derivatives leading to oximes that may be oxidatively converted into 3-arylisoxazole derivatives.

Since Geim and co-workers reported their groundbreaking experiments on graphene, research on graphene oxide (GO) and its derivatives has greatly influenced the field of modern physics, chemistry, device fabrication, material science, and nanotechnology. The unique structure and fascinating properties of these carbon materials can be ascribed to their eminent chemical, electronic, electrochemical, optical, and mechanical properties of GO and its derivatives, particularly compared to other carbon allotropes. The present Review aims to provide an overview on the recent developments in the preparation of GO and its derivatives and their applications in organic reactions. We will first outline the synthesis of GO and its derivatives. Then, we will discuss the major sections about their application as stoichiometric and catalytic oxidants in organic reactions, a particular emphasis on the carbon-carbon, carbon-oxygen, and carbon-nitrogen single bond-forming reactions, as well as carbon-oxygen and carbon-nitrogen double bond-forming reactions. Simultaneously, this Review also describes briefly transition metal supported on GO or its derivatives as a catalyst for organic reaction. Lastly, we will present an outlook of potential areas where GO and its derivatives may be expected to find utility or opportunity for further growth and study.

Abstract The detection of target molecules via luminescence changes of appropriate sensors is a powerful tool to determine the presence of analytes qualitatively and quantitatively. Therefore, the exploration of synthetic routes to new sensors is important to facilitate the recognition of a large range of analytes. In this report we describe such a new route to sensors and discuss the behavior of the synthesized sensors in the presence of different analytes. The prepared anthracene derivatives belong to two classes of substances. On the one hand imines were synthesized wherein the isomerization of their inherent carbon nitrogen double bond provides an effective non-radiative relaxation pathway. On the other hand amines were received by reduction of the mentioned imines. Their intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) based sensing mechanism allows the detection of protons in a reversible colorimetric fashion. Furthermore, the addition of zinc cations in the aprotic solvent DCM provides the first example showing that the detection of these colorimetric pH sensors is not limited to protons.
