Threat assessment and management in higher education is still in the early stages of development. Little is noted in the research literature about the practices of threat assessment teams in this environment, particularly in community colleges. To fill this knowledge gap, a random national sample of 15% (n = 148) of public community colleges were surveyed as to: (a) threat assessment practices, (b) continuing education needs, and (c) training delivery preferences. Lead threat assessment practitioners were surveyed from those institutions. A total of 113 participants returned a completed survey. This number represented a return rate of 76%. A post hoc power analysis reported an actual power (i.e., 1-β error probability) of 0.84. The professional breakdown of respondents was law enforcement/security (n = 52), college administration (n = 55) and other (n = 6). The vast majority (73%) of the community colleges operated with a formalized threat assessment team, yet 67% of respondents reported fewer than 40 hours of threat assessment training. The leading types of team composition were: (a) employees only (57%), and (b) mix of employees and outside personnel (32%). Most college threat assessment teams addressed more than just students as threat sources (69%). The top continuing education needs reported ranged from legal implications to advanced training of threat assessment and management. Inferential statistical analyses revealed that, in reference to their professional background, threat assessment practitioners similarly rank their: (a) continuing education needs, and (b) training delivery preferences (i.e., in person vs. online). Implications for both research and practice were discussed.

Employee turnover is a major concern for organizations. Specifically, among private business schools, it is proved to be one of the major impediments in carrying out academic activities. This phenomenon creates a conundrum for both college administrations and students. Therefore, each academic unit must work to minimize employee turnover. This study aims to identify the elements that influence academicians’ turnover intentions and the ways to negate them. It used a random sample of 236 academicians (professors, assistant professors, associate professors, and lecturers) from various business schools in India. Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) were used to analyze the sample. In addition, the structural equation modeling (SEM) approach was used to examine the hypotheses. All variables studied had high loadings of 0.50 or more in CFA. The research model was shown to be fit on three important absolute fit indices: absolute, incremental, and parsimonious. The regression weights of hypotheses were also determined to be significant. The findings indicate that organizational support, compensation, and personnel management had a detrimental effect on turnover intentions at business schools. These results can be used by college administration and management in devising interventions that will assist them in retaining existing talented staff and avoiding the negative repercussions of future turnover.

Rich biodiversity is one of the Philippines’ greatest assets. Unfortunately, there is a continuous decline in the diversity of flora and fauna across the world. This calls for the need to educate people, especially younger generations, to value and protect biodiversity and natural resources. The study aimed to assess the students’ extent of knowledge and identify their perspectives towards biodiversity and its protection and conservation. A total of 268 randomly selected students at Aurora State College of Technology Zabali Campus were involved in the study. Survey questionnaires were used to obtain data and information which were subjected to statistical tests. The students had a moderate knowledge level on biodiversity with a mean score of 6.65 out of 10 items (SD = 1.50). Their perspective on biodiversity was leaning toward its protection and conservation, with a mean score of 7.2 out of 10 items (SD = 1.29). Factors affecting the students’ knowledge were gender (p = .003) and academic department (p = 0.003). Females and those associated with the Department of Forestry and Environmental Sciences and Department of Industrial technology were found to have more knowledge than the others. Males, on the other hand, were found to have a more positive perspective towards biodiversity. Knowledge and perspective had a weak correlation with r = 0.39. Students were not well-aware, but were in support of the Philippines’ biodiversity-related laws, which could help shape their mindset and actions towards biodiversity conservation and protection. As an implication, the college administration must revisit the curricula of all degree programs and ensure that students from each degree program are environmentally educated, emphasizing biodiversity conservation.

This study aims to explore the harmonisation of scientific specialisation for undergraduate science students using multiple intelligences (MI), their relationship to academic achievement (GPA) and the students’ attitudes towards science. The sample consists of 198 male and female students chosen randomly from different year groups in the departments of physics and chemistry at Al-Qunfudah College at Umm Al-Qura University in Saudi Arabia. The study used a tool to survey MI and a questionnaire to measure the sample’s attitudes towards science. The researcher obtained the students’ GPAs from the college administration department. The results showed that the ranking of intelligences for the sample, respectively, was existential, logical, interpersonal, kinaesthetic, naturalistic, visual, intrapersonal, linguistic and musical. There was consistency between the levels of students’ MI with their science specialisation. There was no significant correlation between the levels of study, GPA variables and attitudes towards science. There was a significant and positive increasing correlation between GPA and each of the following MI: logical, intrapersonal and existential. There was a significant difference between attitudes towards science in favour of chemistry, a significant difference between the medians of existential intelligence in females and a significant and positive increasing correlation between the attitudes towards science and existential intelligence.

The coronavirus pandemic has adversely affected all sectors globally including the education sector. Education institutes across all levels (preprimary, primary, secondary, and higher education) have closed in 188 countries across the globe. Prolonged closure of colleges and schools has forced the educational sector to adopt the online mode of teaching. But one question that is bothering most of the academicians is: Can this online mode of teaching standalone in the long run? To answer this question, our article has proposed an alternative model of delivering education in the time of crisis. This article also helps to explore and compare different modes of course delivery. It also tries to compare and contrast different modes of education through Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) analysis. This article limits its analysis to management education only. An in-depth systematic review from various research papers, articles, cases was done for this article to suggest the model. We found that the management education in India needs a paradigm shift in design, delivery, and assessment and as has been the trend, the trend-setter has to be the faculty in association with the learner. The article recommends that the college administration and faculties should design curriculum in such a system which is more practice-oriented, has more interning hours and where theory gets tested and tried in the field.

Introduction: A sizable amount of adolescents do self-harm, but most cases do not reach medical services as well as the attention of college administration and parents, making such a study essential to be carried out. The prevalence of suicidal thoughts and deliberate self-harm behavior remains largely unexplored. In this study, self-harm behaviors among adolescents studying at higher secondary schools were evaluated in selected schools of Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. Methods: The purposive sampling of five different higher secondary schools in the Kathmandu valley were taken as a study area and the census was done to select the sample population of the selected higher secondary school. A crosssectional analysis of self-administered questionnaire data was collected aftertaking informed and assent consent from participants (n= 243)14-19 years old. Results: The prevalence of lifetime self-harm was approximately 55.6%. The most commonly used self-harm method was scratching the skin intensely (14.5%) and was followed by carving words or other marks on the skin (14.0%). Of those who reported self-harm, 34.8%, intentionally hurt themselves to get the attention of others and 17.8% to punish themselves. Concurrent alcohol consumption (OR=3.660), cigarette smoking (OR=2.50), and depression (OR= 3.01) were associated with a significantly increased risk of self-harm. Similarly, problems with various social relationships were associated with the risk of self-harm. 68.1% knew other people harming themselves before they were involved in self-harm and 19.6% were influenced by family, friends, and media to harm themselves. Conclusions: Self-harm behaviors are common among adolescents. Although the majority of self-harm behavior is not accompanied by a desire to die (serious attempt), all self-harm regardless of motivation is associated with an increased risk of deliberately harming when it is carried out repeatedly.
