We aim to advance the discussion on the significance of the conjugation of bile salts (BS) in our organism. We hypothesize that conjugation influences the rate of lipolysis. Since the rate of lipolysis is a compound parameter, we compare the effect of conjugation on four surface parameters, which contribute to the rate. Since deconjugation is due to gut microbiota, we hypothesize that microbiota may affect the rate of lipolysis. A meta-analysis of literature data of critical micelle concentration, β, aggregation number, and molar solubilization ratio has been performed for the first time. In addition, critical micelle concentration (CMC), interfacial tension, and lipolysis rate measurements were performed. It was found that the unconjugated BS in mixed micelles increases the antagonism between the BS, therefore, increasing the CMC. This correlated with the effect of unconjugated BS on the solubilization capacity of mixed micelles. The collected literature information indicates that the role of the BS and its conjugation in our organism is a key factor influencing the functioning of our organism, where too high levels of unconjugated BS may lead to malabsorption of fat-soluble nutrients. The experimental lipolysis results irrevocably showed that conjugation is a significant factor influencing the rate.

Block copolymers comprising chemically different bottlebrush blocks can self-assemble in selective solvents giving rise to micellar-like solution nanostructures. The self-consistent field theoretical approach is used for predicting relation between architectural parameters of both bottlebrush blocks (polymerization degrees of the main and side chains, density of grafting of the side chains to the backbone) and structural properties of micelles as well as critical micelle concentration (CMC). As predicted by the theory, replacement of linear blocks by bottlebrush ones with the same degrees of polymerization results in a decrease in the micellar core size (in aggregation number) and extension of the corona, whereas the CMC increases. These theoretical findings are in good agreement with results of computer simulations.

Abstract In the present study, binary mixtures of sodium N-lauroylglutamate (SLG) and dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride (DTAC) or dodecylbetaine (BS-12) were examined for their synergistic effect. The surface chemical properties of the compound systems with different molar ratios were determined by the regular solution theory. Results indicated that both compound systems show synergistic effects of overall synergy, in which the SLG/DTAC system exhibited a better activity than the SLG/BS-12 system. The aggregation number of SLG compound systems was smaller than that of single surfactants, and the difference of the proportion of the two surfactants had little effect on the aggregation number of compound systems.

Alcohols are very important additives and played a measure role as co-surfactants in various industrial and research applications. While, Gemini surfactants are mainly used as effective emulsifiers, antifoaming agents, bactericidal agents, coating agents and corrosion inhibitors etc.  Therefore, it is important to study about the variations in alkanol concentrations which affects the aggregation number and other related parameters. Surface properties of gemini surfactant butanediyl-1,4-bis(dimethyldodecylammonium bromide) (12-4-12) has been studied by using fluorescence method. This method has been used to calculate the aggregation number (Nagg) and the other related parameters like dielectric constant (D), Stern Volmer binding constant (KSV) of mixed system. This method is also very important for the calculation of the micropolarity of the mixed system (gemini/alcohol). The micropolarity has been obtained with the help of the ratio of intensity of peaks (I1/I3) of the pyrene fluorescence emission spectrum. Cetylpridinium chloride and pyrene were used as quencher and probe, respectively. Keywords: Gemini surfactant, special alcohols, aggregation number, micropolarity

Targeting of the drug directly to the cells, tissues, or organs with no impact on healthy cells is a challenge. In the current era, it's been made possible by therapeutic interventions. The novel drug delivery systems such as nano particulates, liposomes, aquasomes, phytosomes, dendrimers, nano sponges, nano micelles are developed. Nano micelles are developed for efficient targeting and are currently in trend as therapeutic carriers of water-insoluble drugs. Micelles are self-assembling Nano-sized colloidal particles with a hydrophobic core and hydrophilic shell. Among the micelle-forming compounds, amphiphilic copolymers, i.e., polymers consisting of hydrophobic block and hydrophilic block, are gaining increasing attention. Polymeric micelles possess high stability both in vitro and in vivo with good biocompatibility. Nano micelles are used widely because of the smaller size range of 10 to 100nm, with greater drug loading capacity. Advantages over other dosage forms include solubilization of poorly soluble drugs, sustained release, protection of drugs from degradation and metabolism. The property discussed includes CMC, size, and aggregation number, and stability. CMC is the minimum polymer concentration required for micelle formation. Aggregation number (Nₐ) is the number of polymeric chains required to form micelles, and it ranges between tens to hundreds. Thermodynamic stability is based on size, the optical clarity of solution, viscosity, and surface tension. Kinetic stability accounts for micellar integrity. This review will discuss some recent trends in using micelles as pharmaceutical carriers such as to deliver drugs in conditions such as TB, cancer, ocular complications, etc.
