AbstractExisting analytical models usually fail to match with the actual conditions due to ignoring the nonlinear behavior of the surrounding material reaction force, which changes progressively with the joint shear displacement from elastic stage to yield stage. To tackle this problem, this study proposes a new analytical model to describe the bolt deformation and bolt contribution from elastic stage to plastic stage. The developed model is verified by available experimental direct shear tests of bolted joints and compared with existing models. Then, based on this model, the effects of the joint dilation angle, the bolt installation angle, the friction angle, and the surrounding material strength on bolt contribution are also analyzed and its implication is further discussed. Our results show that the proposed model can precisely describe the evolution of bolt contribution from elastic stage to plastic stage. Compared with surrounding material strength, the augmentation of the joint dilation angle and friction angle is more beneficial to increase the bolt contribution and the optimal installation angle. The work presented is to attempt to provide a reference for the understanding of bolting mechanism of jointed rock mass, the development of bolting theories and the practice of bolting engineering.

Measuring the brightness of the night sky and determining the start of Fajr prayer times can be done using SQM. Observations were made at OIF UMSU with coordinates 3o 34' 55.06" N and 98o 43' 17.09" E. The sky brightness was measured using three SQMs mounted facing the zenith, eastern horizon, and western horizon. The night sky brightness values for SQM directed to the zenith, eastern horizon, and western horizon are 18.23 mpsas, 15.82 mpsas, and 15.47 mpsas. The beginning of fajr prayer time produced by SQM is after the beginning of fajr prayer time obtained using the Accurate Times concerning the Sun's altitude 18o below the horizon. The difference obtained by SQM directed to the zenith, eastern horizon, and western horizon is 29.5 minutes, 36.7 minutes, and 39.5 minutes. In other words, the beginning of Fajr prayer time used in Indonesia is earlier than it should be.

The sailing efficiency of an underwater glider, an important type of marine environment detection and data collection equipment, directly affects its range and duration. The zero-angle-of-attack gliding can be achieved by adjusting the wing installation angle to minimize the drag and improve the sailing efficiency, and thus further improving performance of the glider. This paper first presents the dynamic characteristics of a hybrid-driven underwater glider with a certain wing installation angle when it is sailing at zero angle of attack in buoyancy-driven mode and hybrid-driven mode. In buoyancy-driven mode, with a given wing installation angle, the glider can achieve zero-angle-of-attack gliding only at a specific glide angle. In hybrid-driven mode, due to the use of a propulsion system, the specific glide angle that allows the zero-angle-of-attack gliding in buoyancy-driven mode is expanded to a glide angle range bounded by zero degrees. Then, the energy consumption per meter is introduced as an indicator of sailing efficiency, and the effects of glide angle and wing installation angle on sailing efficiency of the zero-angle-of-attack glider in two driving modes are studied under the conditions of given net buoyancy and given speed, respectively. Accordingly, the optimal wing installation angle for maximizing the sailing efficiency is proposed. Theoretical analysis shows that the sailing efficiency of a zero-angle-of-attack glider can be higher than that of a traditional glider. Considering the requirements of different measurement tasks, a higher sailing efficiency can be achieved by setting reasonable parameters and selecting the appropriate driving mode.

Because thermowells are prone to fatigue damage in petroleum cracking gas pipelines, in this paper, the LES method is used to simulate the flow around thermowells through two-way thermal-fluid-solid coupling, the internal causes of thermowell damage are explored, and measures for improving the thermowell safety are proposed. According to this study, when high-speed, high-temperature gas passes the thermocouple bushing, the main factors affecting the structural safety of the thermocouple bushing are the alternating stress caused by the vortex falling off, the thermal stress cycle due to the temperature gradient, and the pressure gradient impacted by the gas. Furthermore, this paper proposes improving the thermowell safety by installing the interference devices and optimizing the installation angle. The improvement measures were studied by conducting a two-way thermal fluid-structure coupling simulation. The results of this study show that after installing the interference device and optimizing the installation angle the displacement deformation of the thermowell and the equivalent stress is reduced by 57.2% and 72.1%, respectively, which indicates the safety improvement of the thermowell structure and the effectiveness of the method. The research contents of this paper can provide guidance for the installation and use of thermocouple bushing.

Abstract Power spinning is a single point high pressure forming process which is usually studied with ideal regular billet. However, in some cases, the billet adopted in this process is from conventional spinning process with non-uniform wall thickness and springback. Therefore, the forming accuracy is low because this unpredictable spun billet. In this paper, cone, step and arc rollers are compared and the length change of deformation zone is calculated to further understand the forming mechanism of different roller shapes. Multi-step process simulation considering conventional spinning and power spinning is established. The influence of roller parameters such as roller nose radius, straightening zone in step roller and bite angle on the maximum roller force are discussed. In addition, the continuous factors such as installation angle and discrete factor roller shape are studied based on the response surface method (RSM) with categoric factors. The results show that roller shape have a big influence on the workpiece forming quality in power spinning process. Step roller is more suitable for use in this work. The roller nose radius and installation angle have great impacts on the maximum roller force.

Abstract The mixing uniformity of the double drum recycling mixing plant has an important effect on the quality of recycled asphalt mixture. The mixing uniformity of the double drum recycling mixing plant not only depends on the axial installation angle of the blade, the radial installation angle of the blade, the phase angle of the stirring arm, the inclination angle of the drum, and the rotation speed of the drum, but also on the interaction between these factors. In order to further clarify the relationship between the mixing uniformity and the above factors, the significance and interaction of influencing factors of mixing uniformity were studied based on EDEM and response surface methodology (RSM). The result shows that the factors affecting the mixing uniformity of the aggregates are significantly different when the aggregate size is different. Therefore, when studying the mixing uniformity of a mixing plant, it is not comprehensive to conduct research on a certain factor in a single-sided manner. Instead, the main factors and the interaction between the factors should be considered comprehensively.
