Charitable crowdfunding provides a new channel for people and families suffering from unforeseen events, such as accidents, severe illness, and so on, to seek help from the public. Thus, finding the key determinants which drive the fundraising process of crowdfunding campaigns is of great importance, especially for those suffering. With a unique data set containing 210,907 crowdfunding projects covering a period from October 2015 to June 2020, from a famous charitable crowdfunding platform, specifically Qingsong Chou, we will reveal how many online donations are due to endogeneity, referring to the positive feedback process of attracting more people to donate through broadcasting campaigns in social networks by donors. For this aim, we calibrate three different Hawkes processes to the event data of online donations for each crowdfunding campaign on each day, which allows us to estimate the branching ratio, a measure of endogeneity. It is found that the online fundraising process works in a sub-critical state and nearly 70–90% of the online donations are endogenous. Furthermore, even though the fundraising amount, number of donations, and number of donors decrease rapidly after the crowdfunding project is created, the measure of endogeneity remains stable during the entire lifetime of crowdfunding projects. Our results not only deepen our understanding of online fundraising dynamics but also provide a quantitative framework to disentangle the endogenous and exogenous dynamics in complex systems.

This study discusses how the internet facilitated the online donation movement to help deal with the Covid-19 in Indonesia and Vietnam. The internet has critical roles in online donations by spreading information, connecting individuals, and making an online donation movement. We use the connective action concept to explain how the social movement is developed by connecting people through the loose organizational or no-organizational platform. We find that the internet and social media have an essential role in informing, connecting, and simultaneously being a means of online donation activities of individuals from various backgrounds. In this action, individuals are connected emotionally and encourage their empathy and solidarity across identities. In other words, the online connection encourages people to gather and donate as social action. However, in contrast to the connective action concept based on real (offline) action, the online donation for Covid-19 shows that individuals are connected and act online. Therefore, conceptually, the online donation case could enrich the connective action concept in the context of online connection and online action.

Purpose The rapid outbreak of coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) has triggered unprecedented restrictions on not only human movement but also a wide sphere of economic activities, disrupting livelihood, welfare and business worldwide. In response, some Muslim communities have launched fundraising campaigns to mitigate the socio-economic impacts of the virus on the front-liners and the most affected segments of vulnerable populations. The purpose of this study is to explore the intrinsic and extrinsic motivations of donors to these campaigns who contribute via social media platforms (SMPs). Design/methodology/approach This study adopts a cross-sectional research design using an online survey conducted in a typical Muslim community such as Kuwait. A total of 565 samples of data (356 women, 209 men) were used for analysis. Partial least squares-structural equation modeling was used to estimate the research model and extract meaningful conclusions. Findings The results show that charitable projects, internet technology features, SMP features and religiosity are significant motivations that influence attitudes toward online donations related to COVID-19 response. All these relationships are indirectly related to intentions to donate via SMP through a significant mediating effect of attitude. Practical implications The outcome of this study could support the efforts of governments, non-profit organizations and communities to focus attention on suitable proactive strategies to boost online fundraising campaigns for those affected by epidemic diseases. Originality/value This study enriches the literature by integrating both intrinsic and extrinsic motivations of online donations into a new and unique related context such as SMP, especially amid the COVID-19 crisis.

ABSTRACT Background Podcasts and other digital resources are increasingly popular among medical learners and allow the dissemination of research to larger audiences. Little is known about the feasibility of graduate medical education trainees developing podcasts for their own and others' learning. Objective We described the development and implementation of a medical education podcast series by residents for obstetrics and gynecology (Ob-Gyn) resident learning, and demonstrated feasibility, sustainability, and acceptance of this series. Methods We used the Council on Resident Education in Obstetrics and Gynecology (CREOG) educational guidelines to create a weekly study podcast for Ob-Gyn residents over 10 months. Costs and donations (for feasibility), downloads over time (for sustainability), and number of reviews on Apple iTunes and followers on Twitter (for acceptability) were measured. Results Sixty episodes were released from September 30, 2018, to July 28, 2019 (43 weeks). Initial costs included $3,150 startup and $29 monthly. Online donations through Patreon amounted to $200 a month, which covered 58% of startup costs at 10 months and are projected to cover full costs by 1.5 years. The podcast had 173 995 downloads as recorded through Podbean (39 a month in September, increased to 31 206 a month in July). It gained 644 followers on Twitter and 147 ratings on iTunes, with an average of 4.86 out of 5 stars. Conclusions Medical podcasts created by Ob-Gyn residents during their training appear feasible and highly acceptable over a sustained period.

Website is a collection of pages that contain information, videos, audio, images and the like that are interconnected with one another and can be accessed today by using a browser that is connected to the internet. Usability is the ability of an application or website that can be used easily to achieve the goals of the user itself. Why usability is important if an application or website has good usability, the user will be able to easily use it, besides easy to use usability must also be easy to learn by the new user and of course the application or website must run according to its function and no errors occur when the user uses it. Surely this usability has become standard at ISO 9241-11: 2018. Every website has its own usability level, the higher its usability value, the better the usability value means that the application or website is easily understood by its users and its users can find what they are looking for in a short time, and errors that occur are very minimal. This study aims to find out whether the website has been able to meet the needs of its users or not and whether the user experiences complications when using it or not. In Indonesia there are also many platforms that provide distribution or fundraising online and can be monitored for movement, such as example bookisa.com , this platform has been around since 2013 but it is still a social movement and it was only in 2014 that the book was switched to focus on online donations and in 2018 the book was able to channel more than 500 billion to those in need. This research uses the webuse method. The study analysed by sampling 20 people and the results of Good on the four variables, with the highest variable being Content, Organization, and Readability variable which got score 0.77, as well as the lowest variable is design user interface score of 0.70.

The amount of damage to coral reefs caused by human activities has an enormous impact on human life, then with that there must be conservation of reefs to preserve coral reefs in Indonesia, involve the Department of Fisheries and Maritime must play an important role in providing solutions to these problems. The role of the Institute can be done by conducting the cultivation and supervision of coral reefs. The cultivation can be done by making online donations to coral reefs. That way the community will participate in preserving coral reefs. However, facilities for serving online donations are not yet available, then this research is focused on making the system. The system will serve a donation system through the purchase of coral reefs and implanted by a diver agent at a specified location of coral reefs. This donation system was created using a structured approach in analyzing problems that occur in making the system to be built. The existence of this system will facilitate the community to participate and increase public awareness in cultivating coral reefs.
