In sports, one of the social agents who can pressure an athlete for perfection in their performance is their coach. However, perfectionism has many potential negative consequences such as excessive concerns over even minor mistakes. The purpose of this study is to test a sequential model: the motivational context (i.e., task- and ego-involving climates generated by the coach and a coach’s support for autonomy) and the facets that determine the level of perfectionism exhibited as a trait (i.e., perceived coach pressure—a facet of socially prescribed perfectionism—and concerns over mistakes—a facet of self-oriented perfectionism). The sample included 317 athletes (133 boys and 184 girls) aged between 10 and 14 years, who answered a battery of questionnaires that evaluated an athlete’s perception of their motivational climate, their perception of support for autonomy, their perceived coach pressure and their concerns over mistakes. Using the structural equations model, the results showed that the task-involving climate was negatively correlated with perceived coach pressure, whereas the ego-involving climate and support for autonomy were positively correlated with perceived coach pressure and were positively correlated with concerns over mistakes. Finally, perceived coach pressure did not influence concerns over mistakes from the motivational context. This study highlights the importance of considering motivational contexts as important motivational elements of perfectionism in youth sports.

Abstract Aims The aim of this study was to determine surgical trainees’ perspective regarding team environment, function, performance, and trust. Methods A 44-point, anonymous survey was distributed to all doctors working in surgery in a single UK Statutory Education Body with responses received from 116 (n = 17 Foundation Year 1 (FY1), n = 50 Senior House Officer (SHO), n = 49 Specialist Registrar (SpR)). Results Psychological safety was associated with trainee grade; SHO perception of support (60.4%, n = 29), FY1 (88.2%, n = 15), SpR (82.4%, n = 42), p = 0.016; and ability to ask for help: SHO (70.8%, n = 34), FY1 (100.0%, n = 17), SpR (92.2%, n = 47 p = 0.043). Dependability among colleagues was perceived to be poorer by women (69.8%, n = 30) than men (87.5%, n = 63, p = 0.009). Clarity of team structure was associated with grade and perceived to be poor by SHOs (60.4%, n = 29) vs. FY1 (94.1%, n = 16) vs. SpR (78.4%, n = 40), p = 0.014. Meaningfulness and impact of team achievement was associated with grade: SHO (68.8%, n = 33) vs. FY1 (76.5%, n = 13) vs. SpR (94.1%, n = 48), p = 0.005. Inverse correlations were observed between the prevalence of harassment/bullying and markers of psychological safety (rho -0.382, p < 0.001), dependability (rho -0.270, p = 0.003), and clarity of team structure (rho -0.355, p < 0.001). Conclusion Important deficiencies in psychological safety impacted two in five of SHOs adversely. Countermeasures (Enhanced Surgical Resilience Training) are needed to protect morale, patient safety, and clinical outcomes.

Objectives To examine similarities and dissimilarities in patient and family caregiver dyads in their experience of stress, support, and sense of security. Methods 144 patients and their family caregivers participated. Patients were admitted to six Swedish specialist palliative home care units and diagnosed with a non-curable disease with an expected short survival. We analysed similarity patterns of answers within dyads (correlations) as well as dissimilarities, expressed as the difference between within-dyad responses. The latter were subjected to a model-building procedure using GLM, with 13 sociodemographic and clinical characteristics as independent variables. Results Within dyads, patients and family caregivers scored similar in their perception of support and sense of security with care. There was also dissimilarity within dyad responses in their perception of stress and support that could be attributed to sociodemographic or clinical characteristics. When patients scored higher levels of stress than family caregivers, the family caregiver was more likely to be male. Also family caregiver attachment style (attachment anxiety), patient age and the relationship of the family caregiver to the patient explained dissimilarities within the dyads. Conclusions Patients and family caregivers within the dyads often, but not always, had similar scores. We suggest that it is important that the healthcare staff identify situations in which perceptions within the dyads regarding stress and perception of support differ, such that they can recognise patients’ and family caregivers’ unique needs in different situations, to be able to provide adequate support and facilitate dyadic coping.

Introduction: behavioral addictions, and particularly video game addiction, are showing a notable rise in recent years, which is why the latter is already considered a disorder by the WHO. This disorder has been researched in relation to various variables highlighting the importance of the family context; which is why it´s recommended to delve deeper regarding specific aspects about the role that the relationship between parent and child can have in the development of said addictions. Objective: Analyze the relation between the risk of developing Internet gaming disorder (IGD) and the perception a group of university students have of their parents´ parenting process (maternal and paternal). Method: 94 university students belonging to science faculties from Lima, Perú participated. The Internet Gaming Disorder Test - IGD-20 (Pontes et al., 2014) and the Adolescent Family Process scale - AFP (Vazsonyi et al., 2003) were used. Results: significant associations between both constructs were found in relation to the mother’s parenting, but not with the father´s parenting. Background Parent support influences adolescent’s social-emotional well-being. One factor that may influence parent’s perception of support is their child’s level of motor competence. Aim The purpose of this study was to explore mothers’ experience of providing support for the health of adolescents with low motor competence physical and emotional development. Methods A phenomenological approach was used to guide this study. After initial screening, five one-on-one interviews with mothers of adolescents aged 12–16 years were conducted. Results Analysis of the interviews identified five themes of ‘supportive building blocks’, ‘building achievement and commitment,’ ‘building mechanisms for future support’ ‘building stability in relationships’ and ‘building confidence and a sense of autonomy’. Mother’s awareness of their child’s motor difficulties resulted in their active provision of alternative strategies for their child by building self-confidence and seeking support from health professionals. Conclusion Mothers were aware of their child’s inadequacies and actively sought support to help with their development. Support services that recognise low motor competence could better help mothers support their adolescent’s development. One implication arising from this study is the importance of using multi-disciplinarian teams such as occupational therapist, exercise physiologist and parents to help children with low motor competence.
