In this paper, we present a novel theoretical model of bone evolution. The model takes into account growth of the blood vessels network as a real issue during the process. The stimulation of this growth is controlled by the signals from overloaded dying cells. A system of integro-differential equations describes changes in the density of blood vessels, bone cells and Young modulus, all of which define how the bone tissue evolves over time. The model considers several biomechanical signals such as changes in the density of elastic strain energy and nutrients. Two examples of changing bone tissue were examined to test the model: bone healing around a tooth implant and formation of osteophytes during osteoarthritis. In both cases, the effects of mechanical loading in the bone tissue evolution which are in agreement with the medical observations can be observed.

Introduction Parenting programmes help to alleviate conduct problems in children, but ensuring that all parents feel supported to attend, complete and learn from these programmes has proven difficult. Parents can feel overwhelmed and struggle to change their parenting. This article aims to inform the future refinement of parenting programmes by examining parents’ narratives of how programmes motivated them to change and enabled them to put changes into practice. Method and results Forty-two parents, most of whom had attended Incredible Years group sessions, were interviewed about their views and experiences of parenting programmes that focused on positive parenting practices. Analysis of interview transcripts drew on thematic approaches. Parents perceived that parenting programmes helped them to better understand their child and themselves and to let go of anxieties surrounding their child’s behaviour. Better understanding included greater awareness of emotions and of behaviours their child could and could not control. Parents believed this awareness helped them to change the ways that they interacted with their child, which, in turn, helped them and their child to feel calmer. With greater understanding and calmness parents believed they became more able to see for themselves the changes that they could make in their parenting and everyday lives, and to feel more confident in putting these into practice. Discussion By supporting parents to reflect on their own and their child’s situation, parents perceived that programmes enabled them to improve interactions with their children without getting stuck in self-blame or feeling overwhelmed. Parents of children whose behaviour remained challenging believed that programmes led to beneficial changes in the way they felt about their child’s behaviours. Enhanced support for reflection by parents could potentially help more families to benefit from parenting programmes.

Abstract This paper assesses the impact of outbreaks from the perspective of volatility of Malaysian Listed Property Companies in mixed-asset portfolios, concentrating on periods of time between outbreaks. The real issue of this study is the health crisis that has troubled institutional investors, as it has already significantly impacted the returns on investments. Investors need to be better informed on the impact of health outbreaks on investments in order to minimize their impact. To assess the impact of the outbreaks, the GARCH method has been employed to examine the dynamic volatility of listed property companies in mixed-asset portfolios. The volatility level will give investors better information from point of view of the dynamics of volatility of the Malaysian listed property companies’ performance within mixed-asset portfolios. The findings show that listed property companies demonstrate high volatility compared to other mixed-asset portfolios during the periods of outbreaks. This indicates Malaysian listed property companies were the most volatile investment in mixed-asset portfolios. This empirical study will contribute significantly to institutional investors, especially in terms of the investment decision-making process during outbreaks.

In a modern twenty-first-century Western society that extracts its values from youth culture and the fear of aging, death phobia becomes a real issue that needs to be addressed. This study aims to present some of the reasons why death became a taboo subject, why modern man fears death, and how cultural sensitivity can lead to a state of death acceptance, all while the death positivity movement is gaining traction. Keeping in mind that the complex paradox of today is fear of inevitability, let us try and name some of the roots of this problem and what we can do to ease the interaction with death.

The purpose of this study was to find the determinants of call centre employee’s turn over in Pakistan. This study would answer Why employees quit call centres job in Pakistan and does not last for long. Little is known about the employs experience and real issue, that why did they quit. Eight employees were interviewed who have worked in the call centres. The interviews were qualitative and were analysed by drawing on the phenomenological method. The employees revealed that there are limited career opportunities in the call centres. Most participants stated that time schedule, stressed working environment and excessive work load were that major factor which urged them to quit the job too early. Participants stated the time schedule as a major factor which negatively impacted on their social and personal lives. The purpose of this paper is to show the agreement of Camus and Aristotle on the cultural function of the art community (the community of artist and audience), in particular their criticism of what should be called barbarian or nihilistic practices of art.  Camus' art and criticism have been frequent targets of modern critics, but his point is and would be that such critics have the wrong idea of the purpose of art.  His answer to such critics and the parallelism of his ideas with Aristotle's criticism of barbarian culture, show that the real issue between Camus and his critics is cultural.

The Frazerian question of murder turned into ritual sacrifice is foundational to cultural anthropology. Frazer described the antinomian figure of a king, who was, at once, a priest and a murderer. Generations of anthropologists have studied sacrifice in ethnographic contexts and theorized about its religious significance. But sacrifice itself may turn into a problem, and René Girard wrote about “the sacrificial crisis”, when the real issue is the failure of a sacrifice that goes wrong. The present paper addresses such a “sacrificial crisis” in the experience of my own Basque generation. I will argue that the crisis regarding sacrifice is pivotal. But my arguments will take advantage of the background of a more recent ethnography I wrote on the political and cultural transformations of this generation. This requires that I expand the notion of “sacrifice” from my initial approach of ethnographic parallels towards a more subjective and psychoanalytical perspective. As described in my first ethnography, the motivation behind the violence was originally and fundamentally sacrificial; when it finally stopped in 2011, many of those invested in the violence, actors as well as supporters, felt destitute and had to remodel their political identity. The argument of this paper is that the dismantling of sacrifice as its nuclear premise—the sacrifice of sacrifice—was a major obstacle stopping the violence from coming to an end.
