The article provides an analysis of financial and non-financial instruments of state regulation of the industrial sector. The studies carried out on the use of support measures by high-tech and innovative enterprises in different sectors of the economy show their high interest in obtaining it. It was revealed that the maximum demand for a state support measure is about twenty-five percent, while on average it does not exceed 10%. The concern is caused by the inability of enterprises to use several support measures at the same time, most often they apply for one measure for a specific investment project. The use of support measures in combination will allow industrial enterprises to effectively implement their strategic plans and form an increasing vector of industry development.

The long-term cooperation between Russia and India in the investment field is analyzed. This cooperation is of great strategic importance not only for the development of these countries, but also for solving problems at the global level. The world is currently undergoing large-scale changes affecting various spheres of public life. On the basis of Russian and Indian statistics, as well as statistics of international organizations, conclusions are drawn about the uneven distribution of foreign direct investment between Russia and India, and their different position in the international movement of capital is indicated. Examples of specific investment projects between TNCs of the two countries are given. Prospects for investment cooperation between the two countries have been substantiated. The purpose of this research is to study investment cooperation between Russia and India. The theoretical basis of the study was the works of Russian and foreign authors, which examine the issues of the socio-economic situation of developing countries, and in particular, the economic development of India and Russian-Indian relations. The work used methods of analysis and comparison of theoretical positions, as well as methods of statistical and analogy, expert assessments. It was found that the most interesting projects for the Indian economy are the extraction of oil and other minerals, construction, trade, and real estate. For Russia, the sphere of manufacturing is of particular investment interest, as well as the sphere of trade and the financial sector.

An important factor of current climate change is water availability, with both droughts and flooding becoming more frequent. Effects of individual stresses on plant traits are well studied, although less is known about the impacts of sequences of different stresses. We used savoy cabbage to study the consequences of control conditions (well-watered) versus continuous drought versus drought followed by soil flooding and a potential recovery phase on shoot growth and leaf metabolism. Under continuous drought, plants produced less than half of the shoot biomass compared to controls, but had a >20% higher water use efficiency. In the soil flooding treatment, plants exhibited the poorest growth performance, particularly after the “recovery” phase. The carbon-to-nitrogen ratio was at least twice as high, whereas amino acid concentrations were lowest in leaves of controls compared to stressed plants. Some glucosinolates, characteristic metabolites of Brassicales, showed lower concentrations, especially in plants of the flooding treatment. Stress-specific investment into different amino acids, many of them acting as osmolytes, as well as glucosinolates, indicate that these metabolites play distinct roles in the responses of plants to different water availability conditions. To reduce losses in crop production, we need to understand plant responses to dynamic climate change scenarios.

Local government units carry costs related to the shaping and spatial development of communes, and are consequently interested in sharing the benefits that land property owners gain on this account. This is possible through, inter alia, the betterment levy. The aim of this study was to determine the reasons for the discontinuation of betterment levy charging in Poland, illustrated with the example of Gorlicki County. A further aim was to classify the reasons for the discontinuation of betterment levy charging in Poland, and to suggest directions for changes in the way in which this levy is charged. A questionnaire survey was conducted of the communes of Gorlicki County (Małopolskie Voivodeship), and was completed by those responsible for charging betterment levies in the communes. According to the survey results, no decision on charging of the betterment levy was issued in Gorlicki County between 2012 and 2019. The reasons for the discontinuation of charging of this levy, as indicated by the respondents, included the lack of analyses (estimation) of the increase in the property value following the execution of specific investment activities, high administrative costs related to the charging of this levy, and the stimulation of socio-economic development. However, the statistical analysis showed that the discontinuation of charging of the betterment levy in Gorlicki County had failed to contribute to socio-economic growth.

Purpose This study aims to examine whether and how cultural (dis) similarity between business entities enhances or impairs the development of commitment in the trust building process in industrial importer-foreign supplier relationships. Design/methodology/approach Drawing on theoretical lenses of transaction cost economics, resource-based view and dynamic capability view, this study investigates how cultural (dis)similarity moderates the effects of opportunism, transaction-specific investment (TSI), the relative advantage of importing and communication on commitment, leading to building trust in business relationships. Using structural equation modeling and moderated regression analysis, the study tested several predicted effects using a sample of 154 industrial importers drawn from a developing country in Asia. Findings A key finding of the study suggests that supplier opportunism comes into play and is negatively associated with industrial importer commitment as cultural dissimilarity increases. For culturally similar countries, opportunism does not affect commitment. Conversely, TSI has a positive effect on commitment for culturally similar countries; for dissimilar countries, TSI has no effect. The study also corroborates several additional hypotheses prevalent in the literature. Research limitations/implications Cross-sectional data rather than longitudinal data, single country rather than multi-country perspectives and data from the importer’s side rather than from both importer and exporter may affect generalizability. Future research ought to address these issues to provide further insights. Originality/value The paper enriches the literature and extends the nomological network for international business theory by introducing the moderating effect of business cultural similarity in building commitment. Managerial perspectives are also gleaned from the findings.

Electromagnetic transients are considered in the implementation of three-phase automatic reclose on the transmission line of extra high voltage 750 kV. The influence of automatic shunting of phases and pre-insertion active resistance for limiting the characteristics of the aperiodic component of the current, which obstructs the transition of full current through zero, is evaluated. The paper analyses measures taking into account the effect of changing the degree of compensation of charging power and the angles of switching on an SF6 circuit breaker. Sub-schemes of disconnected undamaged phases of the extra high voltage transmission line for the investigation of the aperiodic current component have been developed. The values of the pre-insertion active resistances of different connection and automatic shunting of the phases are determined at which there is an effective reduction of the characteristics of the aperiodic component of the current. In the software environment, a model was developed and switching transient processes were simulated in the 750 kV transmission line. Operating modes that are potentially dangerous for SF6 circuit breakers are determined and recommendations are given to avoid them. Currently the technical and economic requirements for power transmission lines designed for the transport of electricity from large power plants and for the communication of powerful energy systems are increasing. Today there is the importance of reducing specific investment in the construction of new and reconstruction of existing lines. The solution of these issues is associated with the maximum use of power lines by increasing their power transfer capability and controlling modes, especially in operating emergency conditions and post-emergency operation of power systems.

This article is a maiden attempt at exploring determinants of stage-specific investment choices of Indian venture capital and private equity (VCPE) firms. Analysis of 5,782 VCPE investment deals during 1998–2016 shows that firms’ preferences to invest in various stages (early vs. late) are significantly affected by the characteristics of the VCPE firms, features of the deal, and characteristics of the investee firms. More specifically, experience and ownership (foreign vs. domestic) of VCPE firm, type of deal (syndicated or otherwise), investment size of the deal, and location and industry of the investee firm influence the stage of investment. Detailed empirical analysis shows that younger VCPE firms and those with domestic investors prefer to invest in early stages, presumably because they wish to build a reputation and also leverage their proximity with investee firms to manage high market and technological risks associated with early-stage investments. Syndication is another mechanism used to manage the risks associated with early-stage deals. Investee firms in industries that have lower investment requirements or shorter gestation periods and those located in regions with a mature entrepreneurial ecosystems are more likely to attract early-stage investments. Gas turbine power plants are widely employed with constrained efficiency in the industrial field, where they often work under variable load conditions caused by variations in demand, leading to fluctuating exhaust gas temperatures. Suitable energy harvesting solutions can be identified in bottoming cycles, such as the conventional Organic Rankine Cycles (ORC) or the innovative supercritical CO2 (s-CO2) systems. This paper presents a detailed comparison of the potential of ORC and s-CO2 as bottomers of industrial gas turbines in a Combined Heat and Power (CHP) configuration. Different gas turbine models, covering the typical industrial size range, are taken into account and both full- and part-load operations are considered. Performance, component dimensions, and operating costs are investigated, considering ORC and s-CO2 systems specifics in line with the current state-of-the-art products, experience, and technological limits. Results of the study show that the s-CO2 could be more appropriate for CHP applications. Both the electric and thermal efficiency of s-CO2 bottoming cycle show higher values compared with ORC, also due to the fact that in the examined s-CO2 solution, the cycle pressure ratio is not affected by the thermal user temperature. At part-load operation, the gas turbine regulation strategy affects the energy harvesting performance in a CHP arrangement. The estimated total plant investment cost results to be higher for the s-CO2, caused by the higher size of the heat recovery heat exchanger but also by the high specific investment cost still associated to this component. This point seems to make the s-CO2 not profitable as the ORC solution for industrial gas turbine heat recovery applications. Nevertheless, a crucial parameter determining the feasibility of the investment is the prospective carbon tax application.
