Abstract This paper presents the description of the rhodium catalyst synthesis and the results of numerical study of the methane-steam reforming in a microstructured reactor-heat exchanger. The kinetics of the reforming reactions on a synthesized catalyst was determined using the numerical simulations and experimental data on activation energy of the methane reactions. It allows finding the characteristics of methane steam reforming that can be used for optimization of the microstructured reactor implementing the microchannel technology.

Abstract A new method for the highly active palladium catalyst synthesis on the surface of a Pd-23%Ag film has been developed to increase the material activity with respect to reactions involving hydrogen. Comparison of the electrochemical experiments data of classical palladium black and a new developed nanocatalyst demonstrated a significant increase in catalytic activity in the methanol oxidation reaction (up to 17.09 μA cm−2) for electrodes modified with the latter catalyst. The reason for that is an increase in the number of localized potentially more active surface regions due to the creation of a larger number of active sites in comparison with spherical particles. Estimation of resistance to CO poisoning showed high efficiency of nanocatalysts. Chronoamperometric experiment established the long-term stability and activity of the developed catalyst and confirmed the possibility of its practical use.

In this research, active carbon-based catalyst synthesis and characterization were investigated for different applications in catalysis. The active carbon-based catalyst was combined with metal oxides to dye methylene blue (MB) removal. Water hyacinth is one of the major problems that facing society and especially in Egypt. One of the implications of industrial activities is environmental pollution. One of the major pollutants is dyes that are used in the production of textiles, paper, and clothes. The waste of those dyes discharged into water supplies without treatment, or ineffective treatment will harmfully impact the environment. In this research, the treatment is implemented using active carbon-based catalysts using embedded nanoparticles. That will lead to a huge increase in the surface area of the adsorbent to increase the adsorbent efficiency. The activated carbon was derived from water hyacinths that grow in the Nile River. Water hyacinth has many good uses as it can absorb heavy metals like lead and dyes. Water hyacinth was converted into activated carbon through carbonization. Different dyes were used with different contact times in fixed conditions.

The supported nano-scale catalysts are widely used in different fields of chemical engineering. For the catalysts, the certain requirements are specified fort the catalyst supports. Hypercrosslinked polymers seem to be the prospective materials for the catalyst synthesis. However, polymeric matrices often do not meet some standards for catalyst supports (i.e. polymers are inert materials and do not have the acidic or basic properties). To infuse the additional properties to polymers it is possible to modify its surface with different compounds or functional groups. In this work, the study of the ways for the modification of the surface of hypercrosslinked polystyrene and silica-phase precursors was carried out.

In this modern era, it has become essential to transform waste materials into valuables because of their excessive availability, along with achieving the targets of environmental protocols and waste management policies. With a growing population, the utilization and consumption of agricultural products have been increased extensively. In addition, it has increased the probability of agricultural waste generation. Waste produced from agricultural sources is considered as a viable source for synthesizing economical and ecofriendly catalysts and suitable ways for its disposal are sought. This study is targeted at agricultural waste-derived heterogeneous catalysts, which have been effectively employed for biodiesel generation. The types of agricultural waste, catalyst synthesis techniques, recent literature stated for agricultural waste-derived catalysts to produce biodiesel, the elemental composition and catalytic activity of agricultural waste ashes, the effect of reaction parameters to maximize biodiesel yield and catalyst reusability have been discussed. This work concludes that catalysts derived from agricultural waste are efficient in transesterification reaction, and they are easy to produce, and are cheap and ecofriendly. Moreover, this study encourages researchers to see the options for unexplored agricultural waste, which can be potentially converted into useful materials
