8-oxo-guanine (8OG) is a common base lesion, generated by reactive oxygen species, which has been associated with human diseases such as cancer, aging-related neurodegenerative disorders and atherosclerosis. 8OG is highly mutagenic, due to its dual-coding potential it can pair both with adenine or cytidine. Therefore, it creates a challenge for DNA polymerases striving to correctly replicate and/or repair genomic or mitochondrial DNA. Numerous structural studies provide insights into the mechanistic basis of the specificity of 8OG bypass by DNA polymerases from different families. Here, we focus on how repair polymerases from Family X (Pols β, λ and µ) engage DNA substrates containing the oxidized guanine. We review structures of binary and ternary complexes for the three polymerases, which represent distinct steps in their catalytic cycles—the binding of the DNA substrate and the incoming nucleotide, followed by its insertion and extension. At each of these steps, the polymerase may favor or exclude the correct C or incorrect A, affecting the final outcome, which varies depending on the enzyme.

Perception of products has becoming one of the most important factors influencing consumers’ purchase intention in the context of online shopping. Thus, enriching and studying review presentation formats have been significant things for practitioners and researchers. This study employed dual coding theory and telepresence theory to investigate the effects of review presentation formats (text-based reviews, image-based reviews and video-based reviews) on consumers’ purchase intention, and then analysed the moderation effect of product type. The 3×2 between-subject situational experiment and 3×2 within-subject eye-tracking experiment design were separately applied to test the hypotheses. The results manifested that review presentation formats exactly could generate different impacts on consumers’ purchase intentions. And product type moderated the impact of presentation formats on purchase intentions. Hence, this research considered online vendors should pay more attention to image-based and video-based reviews, moreover take the product type into account.

Objectives: Currently, in a large number of print-out report documents from tobacco package, there exist irregular phenomena such as discontinuous vertical lines, misplaced frame lines and multi-page tables. Thus, the existing table recognition algorithm cannot be adopted to perform digital identification. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a table image processing algorithm based on the dual-coding difference of Gaussians iterative clustering. Firstly, the method of local regional sub-block is used to the skew correction threshold to conduct image correction. Secondly, the corrected images are coded by rows and columns, and 2D image features are transformed into 1D image features. Thirdly, the Gaussian differenced operation is adopted to obtain effective characteristic matrices that are stable and easily distinguishable. Then the iterative clustering analysis is performed to obtain the feature values of effective frame lines. Fourthly, after finishing the tasks, such as the table positioning, inner structure reconstruction, and text information identification, the dichotomy judgmentsof the integrity of multi-page tablesare realized according to the local pixel features. Finally, the text information inside the local regions and the reconstructed regions are merged, and the digital reproduction of the multi-page tables is realized. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, an experiment in the sample set containing 12,840 table images with different resolutionsis carried out. The average detection accuracies of table positioning, table cell reconstructionand multi-page incompleteness are 98.95%, 99.80%, and 95.85%, respectively. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is simple and effective, and can accomplish the digital reproduction of irregular tables.

As a new medium in modern education, virtual reality technology has stimulated the changes of pedagogical practice and added further opportunities for experiential learning. The immersive and interactive experience of VR fits seemingly well with practical subjects such as Creative Design. Design-related courses in secondary education usually appeal to the students with their practical elements, which also help in developing a student's creative and cognitive ability. The dual coding learning theory states that the learning process can be improved by using the symmetrical visual and language systems of the left and right hemispheres. This paper presents a novel teaching framework that combines classroom learning with VR technology. We devise the course structure based on Bloom’s Taxonomy and fill in knowledge and skills related to 3D Design. In collaboration with a local school, we implemented and delivered the proposed course to a group of students. After the course, we use questionnaires and interviews to collect and analyze the attendees’ feedback. The results show that the interactive experience in VR coincides better with the students’ perception of 3D conceptual design. The teaching methods are also well-received by them. Based on the findings, we suggest that immersive VR technology is a promising tool for developing practical courses such as product design and development.

This interdisciplinary research aims to examine the effects of photos used in Arabic news websites on both comprehension and recall among readers. The dual-coding theory was used as a theoretical framework. The research used an experimental design of two groups to test the effects of photos on comprehension and recall of the news content included in two news websites created specifically for the experiment. Two groups of 80 university students have participated voluntarily in the experiment. The results indicated that the use of photos in the news website has increased significantly the levels of both comprehension and recall among respondents.

The article deals with the problem of occasional lexical units used by the 45th American President D.Trump in his political speeches, and their further possible progress to the status of usual words generally used in the American variant of the English language. Political discourse is taken as an object of the research due to its popularity, and the highest circulation in the modern democratic society that, with the help of its characteristics, guarantees maximum promulgation of the occasional words. It is stressed in the article that the study cannot be purely done in linguistic terms, as the very progress from occasional to the usual words covers the aspects of pedagogics, psychology, neuropsychology, neurodidactics. To trespass the borderline between occasional and usual, it is surely badly needed to be repeated scores of times – the task that is fully performed by the political and media discourses in concatenation - but still it alone is not enough. The newly created word should correspond not only to the communicative demands of a speaker-creator, but also with the views and beliefs of the audience. Thus, it catches declarative, procedural, semantic, and episodic / emotional memory of the addressee. Altogether, it should be of some significance as in the context of the information given by the politician, so from the prospective of the very addressee (his life values and experience). Dual Coding Theory involving the activity of verbal and non-verbal systems comes to the fore to explain the principles of successful memorization of occasional lexical units coming to life through political discourse.
