Abstract In this work, the physical properties of molybdenum oxide films obtained by reactive magnetron sputtering were studied. Based on the experimental transmission and reflection spectra for samples at different currents in the fundamental absorption region, the optical band gap was determined, and in the visible range, the thickness of the films was defined. The studied films had the values of optical parameters that were observed by other authors. However, the dependence of the optical band gap width on the thickness of the films is not found in the literature and can be associated with the influence of the flux density of the substance sputtered from the target surface on the structure of the film.

The structural, electronic, and absorption properties of crystalline hexahydro-1,3,5-trinitro-1,3,5-triazine (RDX) under hydrostatic pressure of 0–50 GPa were studied using density functional theory. As the pressure increases, the lattice constants and the unit cell volume decrease gradually. The compressibility of RDX crystal is anisotropic. The different changing trends of bond lengths and bond angles under pressures show that both the ring opening and the N–NO2 cleavage are possible to trigger the RDX decomposition. The interactions between electrons, especially for the valence electrons, are strengthened under the influence of pressure. The absorption spectra of RDX display more and stronger bands in the fundamental absorption region at high pressure.

The optical properties of a wide series of the tungstates with the scheelite and wolframite crystal structure at the threshold of the fundamental absorption region were studied. New information about the influence of the electronic states forming the bottom of the conduction band and the top of the valence band on the formation of emission centers and mechanisms of energy transfer to these centers was obtained.
