One of the causes of stroke is atherosclerosis. The incidence of occurrence ischemic stroke caused by atherosclerosis is 95%. Atherosclerosis is caused by oxidative stress in the endothelium due to the formation of Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS). Hyperlipidemia (hyper LDL) is one of the risk factors of elevated ROS. One of the enzymes that play a role in preventing the formation of ROS is superoxide dismutase (SOD). Coffee has a powerful antioxidant in which one of its active ingredients is chlorogenic acid that capable to inhibiting ROS formation. Fifteen wistar male divided into 3 groups. Group I (Control) were given standard fed, Group II (Hyperlipidemia) were given standart fed and hyperlipid diet, Group III (Coffee) were given standart fed and hyperlipid diet + coffee consumption. Treatment were done everyday for 30 days. Blood serum in each group was taken on day 30 and examined by ELISA superoxide dismutase (SOD). The results showed that superoxide dismutase levels in coffee group was significantly higher than hyperlipidemia group (p = 0,006). This study proves that coffee consumption can increase the production of superoxide dismutase enzyme. Keywords: atherosclerosis; coffee; hyperlipid; SOD

ABSTRACT   Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease that begins with endothelial dysfunction, it caused fat accumulation and plaque growth in the inner arteries walls. Endothelial dysfunction will activate the Nuclear Factor Kappa B (NF-kB) pathway involving IKK proteins. Terpinen4-ol is constituent found in the bangle (Zingiber cassumunar) rhizome. The purpose of this study were to determine the affinity and mechanisms of terpinen-4-ol against IKK protein as anti-inflammatory in atherosclerosis performed using molecular docking method. The docking result are assessed from the binding energy and hydrogen bonds formed between terpinen-4-ol and protein. The result showed that terpinen-4-ol has activity in inhibiting the inflammatory process because it is able to disturb IKK protein with bond energy values -4.89 kcal/mol. The molecular mechanism in inhibiting the activity of IKK protein through the formation of hydrogen bonds in these proteins. These result show that terpinen-4-ol has the potential to inhibiting inflammatory process and it caused the formation of atherosclerotic plaque can be obstructed.   Keywords: Atherosclerosis, Terpinen-4-ol, Molecular Docking, In Silico

Abstract Carotid artery disease has been linked with cerebral vascular accident, also known as stroke, cerebral hemorrhage, or cerebral ischemia. It is caused by narrowing or obstruction of arteries in the neck (the carotid arteries) that are responsible for transporting blood from the aorta to the brain. Panoramic radiographs are used in dentistry to show both dental arches as a supplement to the clinical dental examination. The objective of this study is to highlight the importance of panoramic radiographs for diagnosis of arterial disease, by means of a bibliographic review. The PubMed database was searched using the keywords “atherosclerosis” and “panoramic”, with the filters “last 5 years” and “humans”. Twenty articles were identified, six of which were chosen for this study because they were open access. The review concluded that panoramic radiographs enable early diagnosis of carotid artery calcification, resulting in earlier interventions, and offer an accessible cost.
