The perception of parenthood is observed through parental attitudes and beliefsabout children and parenting. The aim of this study is to examine the relationshipbetween how parents perceive their own parental competencies (parental selfefficacy, parental internal and external locus of control) and social support ofclose people (friends, family and significant others), according to sex and parentaleducation. The study involved 194 subjects, 148 mothers and 46 fathers. A weakconnection was found between parental self-efficacy and social support. Parentswho perceive to be more self-effective estimate that they also receive more supportfrom their environment and vice versa. No statistically significant difference wasfound in the perception of parental competence and the perception of social supportwith regard to sex, but the difference was found in parental self-efficiency and theexternal locus of control depending on the level of education. Parents with lowerand high school education perceive themselves to be more self-effective in theparental role and have a larger external locus of control, compared to academicallyeducated parents. In conclusion, it is important to recognize parents with low selfefficacy,i.e. lower parental competence, as well as those who estimate that theyhave little support from their environment, and to direct them to the possibilitiesof increasing parental competence. Keywords: parental competence; parental self-efficacy, parental internal and externallocus of control; mothers; fathers; perceived social support.

Bochner's theorem says that if M is a compact Riemannian manifold with negative Ricci curvature, then the isometry group Iso(M) is finite. In this article, we show that if (X,d,m) is a compact metric measure space with synthetic negative Ricci curvature in Sturm's sense, then the measure preserving isometry group Iso(X,d,m) is finite. We also give an effective estimate on the order of the measure preserving isometry group for a compact weighted Riemannian manifold with negative Bakry-Emery Ricci curvature except for small portions.

The present study investigates the effect of lexical difficulty, as measured by frequency, on reading comprehension and recall. It also estimates the relationship between vocabulary size, vocabulary depth, reading comprehension, and recall. To this end, 80 English as a foreign language (EFL) undergraduate university students are administered three standardized instruments including two vocabulary tests and a reading comprehension test. The latter comprises two similar passages (in terms of length and topic) one of which is adjusted by replacing 18% of its words by their low-frequent synonyms, and both passages are estimated lexically to measure their difficulty. Paired samples t-test results show that comprehension and recall are significantly low (p<.001) in the modified passage. This finding further confirms that lexical frequency measure is an effective estimate in determining reading material difficulty. Furthermore, for the second objective, Pearson product-moment analysis reveals a significantly high correlation between size and comprehension, a moderate to low correlation between depth and comprehension, and a moderate correlation between depth and recall tasks. Consequently, the study sugguests estimating the complexity of EFL reading academic material with lexical difficulty measure using frequency criterion to cope with students’ reading deficiencies, and encourage explicit lexical instructions at EFL undergraduate university levels mainly.

The utilization of continuous approaches, namely analytical-probabilistic methods, has often been advocated for hydraulic device sizing, in order to overcome some deficiencies of the design event method. In the analytical distribution derivation, however, strong simplifying hypotheses are usually adopted. Rainfall depth and duration independency is the most unrealistic, even if it usually leads to satisfactory agreements between derived and benchmarking distributions. The reason can lie in drawbacks related to conventional assessment techniques of multivariate rainfall distributions. Copula functions recently provided a significant improvement in statistical inference capabilities and greatly simplified the distribution assessment. Nonetheless, the generalization of the return period concept, well defined in the univariate case, to multivariate cases has not found a blanket solution yet. Effective estimate methods can, however, be developed for the design and performance assessment of specific hydraulic devices. With regard to urban catchment applications, a criterion to derive flood frequency curves from a rainfall volume and duration distribution is herein proposed. Further, a method to estimate the return period of bivariate rainfall events based on a device-targeted approach is developed. Hydrologic simulations are conducted to support model reliability through a test case, featuring a northern Italian rainfall regime.

As one of the most important gas path performance parameters, the exhaust gas temperature (EGT) can provide more effective information about the health state of aeroengine. However, the changing process of aeroengine EGT is often affected by many uncertain factors and the sample data are relatively less, which make it difficult to predict its trend accurately by the traditional regression analysis method. Aiming at this problem, the GM(1,1) rolling-Markov chain model is proposed and used for aeroengine EGT prediction in this paper. Based on the equal dimensional new information theory, GM(1,1) rolling model is utilized to predict the changing trend of aeroengine EGT firstly. Then the Markov chain theory is used to solve the influence of random fluctuation on prediction accuracy, which can achieve an effective estimate of the non-linear parameter. As an example, the historical monitoring data of EGT from one aeroengine of Air China is used to verify the prediction performance of GM(1,1) rolling-Markov chain model. The analysis results show that this model has higher prediction accuracy and can effectively reflect the random fluctuation characteristics of EGT, which provides a new method for aeroengine gas path performance parameter prediction.

Energy is one of the most important parts of wireless sensor network design. Effective estimate the residual power of sensor nodes can be used to aid select the all-round and optimal schemes for applications and router protocols design, which can notably promote the survival period of wireless sensor networks. By software based real time energy estimation to scale the power consume of nodes can conciliate the deficiency of hardware. However, because node energy loss is nonlinear, so software based real time estimation inevitably not accurate. On the contrary, hardware based method scale residual energy in terms of reliability, efficiency and accuracy are relatively better.
