Introduction: Gingival recession is established through several factors and its treatment can be planned integrating surgical procedures with the aid of orthodontic treatment. Methods: In this context, a 36-year-old woman sought dental treatment to realign the right lower central incisor. A localized gingival recession was verified, being related to poor positioning of the root. The patient had undergone previous orthodontic treatment, as well as periodontal surgical treatment, after which there was no success. Results: After the planning of the case, the dental element was reallocated through orthodontic movement and then the periodontal surgical treatment was performed. With the results obtained, the improvement of gingival recession through orthodontic and periodontal surgical treatment is discussed. Conclusions: This clinical report shows that the gingival graft, performed after tooth movement, can increase the probability of good results in reducing root exposure.

Root lesion nematodes, Pratylenchus penetrans, are major pests of legumes with little options for their control. We aimed to prime soybean cv. Primus seedlings to improve basic defense against these nematodes by root application of N-3-oxo-tetradecanoyl-L-homoserine lactone (oxo-C14-HSL). The invasion of soybean roots by P. penetrans was significantly reduced in plants that were pre-treated with the oxo-C14-HSL producing rhizobacterium Ensifer meliloti strain ExpR+, compared to non-inoculated plants or plants inoculated with the nearly isogenic strain E. meliloti AttM with plasmid-mediated oxo-C14-HSL degradation. The nematodes were more clustered in the root tissues of plants treated with the AttM strain or the control compared to roots treated with the ExpR+ strain. In split-root systems primed on one side with strain ExpR+, root invasion was reduced on the opposite side compared to non-primed plants indicating a systemic plant response to oxo-C14-HSL. No additional local effect was detected, when inoculating nematodes on the ExpR+ primed side. Removal of oxo-C14-HSL after root exposure resulted in reduced root invasion compared to non-primed plants when the nematodes were added 3, 7, or 15 days later. Thus, probably the plant memorized the priming stimulus. Similarly, the plants were primed by compounds released from the surface of the nematodes. HPLC analysis of the root extracts of oxo-C14-HSL treated and untreated plants revealed that priming resulted in enhanced phytoalexin synthesis upon P. penetrans challenge. Without root invading nematodes, the phytoalexin concentrations of primed and non-primed plants did not significantly differ, indicating that priming did not lead to a persistently increased stress level of the plants. Upon nematode invasion, the phytoalexins coumestrol, genistein, and glyceollin increased in concentration in the roots compared to control plants without nematodes. Glyceollin synthesis was significantly more triggered by nematodes in primed plants compared to non-primed plants. The results indicated that the priming of soybean plants led to a more rapid and strong defense induction upon root invasion of nematodes.

The alveolysis is a pathological condition classified as partial or total dehiscence (the root exposure is partial or total and involves the marginal bone) and apical fenestration (the root exposure doesn’t involve the marginal bone). Usually occurs by vestibular and in the anterior region of the maxilla. It’s commonly associated with chronic infections provoked by dental caries and dental trauma. This study aims to report a clinical alveolysis case in a previous traumatized deciduous tooth of a 4 years old child. Clinical examination noticed aveolysis apical fenestration type associated to partial dehiscence (tooth 51) and presence of mobility. In the radiographic examination it was found thickening of the pericementary space and external root resorption. The indicated treatment was extraction of the affected tooth and the use of maintainer of space. Based on the reported case, it is concluded that early care and the control of traumatized and decayed teeth are essential for the prevention of alveolysis.

In the case report showcased, we describe orthodontic treatment of a female patient with an excessive gingival display on smiling and severe dental crowding, with maxillary canines positioned excessively buccal (ectopic) to and in near transposition to the lateral incisors. The treatment involved extractions and initial use of unmitigated forces leading to excessive gingival thinning and buccal root positioning of the ectopic canines. Eventually, the root position was corrected and periodontal equilibrium was attained. On finishing the treatment, all objectives were achieved with a good esthetic outcome as well as excellent dental and occlusal relationships.

Gingival fenestration is rarely encountered clinical situation causing problems like root sensitivity, root caries and aesthetic problem. Although rare, this situation can be difficult to manage and needs multidisciplinary approach. This case report describes management of gingival fenestration defect with root exposure and endodontic lesion in upper left lateral incisor using multidisciplinary approach. Endodontic treatment followed by double papilla flap technique as coverage of gingival fenestration and finally crown was prosthetically rehabilitated. The result of this case with double papilla graft technique demonstrated satisfactory healing of the gingival fenestration defect with excellent colour and texture match with the surrounding tissues.

The experiment on 30 white rats was designed to investigate the effect of a water-soluble form of quercetin on collagenolysis and depolymerization of proteoglycans and glycoproteins in both soft and bone tissues of periodontium under the conditions of systemic administration of S. typhi lipopolysaccharide. The animals were divided into 3 groups: the 1st group included intact animals, the 2nd group involved the animals exposed to the systemic administration of S. typhi lipopolysaccharide (pyrogenal), the 3rd group was made up the rats, which were given a water-soluble complex of quercetin and polyvinylpyrrolidone (corvitin) intraperitoneally in a dose of 500 mg / kg (10 mg / kg in terms of quercetin) every 3 days, starting from the 30th day of the experiment. The latter was administered in a dose of 0.4 μg/kg 3 times during the 1st week and once a week for the next 7 weeks. Collagenolysis was assessed by the concentration of free hydroxyproline; the level of depolymerisation of proteoglycans and glycoproteins was assessed by the content of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) and N-acetylneuraminic acid (NANA) respectively. The introduction of quercetin in the experimental conditions significantly reduced the concentration of free hydroxyproline in soft and bone periodontal tissues by 27.3 and 26.7%, GAG – by 36.3 and 39.9%, and NANA – by 17.6 and 46.8%, respectively compared to the values of the 2nd group. The coefficient of root exposure in molars was inferior to the findings in the group with the modelled systemic inflammatory response by 26.9%. It can be concluded that the use of quercetin in the systemic lipopolysaccharide administration significantly reduces the depolymerisation of the components of the organic matrix in soft and bone periodontal tissues (collagen, proteoglycans and sialoglycoproteins), and limits the resorption of the alveolar process in jaws.

Rimbaud’s “Impoverished Bodies” ask us to grapple with a core question: “what does poverty tell us about the body, and what does it do to its relations to other bodies?” Here, we scrutinize the representation of marginalized and impoverished figures in the nineteenth-century poetic and political imaginary (Marx, Hegel, Thiers, Hugo, Mallarmé, Coppée, Baudelaire) and show how the problem of poverty draws our attention to the root exposure, vulnerability, and sociality of the body. Paying particular attention to a surprisingly important poem in the Rimbaldian corpus, “Les Effarés,” we find Rimbaud prevailing upon laughter as a form of ideological critique, as a way of contesting dominant discourses on poverty which mask an inhuman indifference to human suffering behind the self-congratulatory appearances of bourgeois humanism.

Kata kunci: Erosi, Model, Kualitatif, DAS SerangEnglish Title: Spatial Modeling of Raster Based  Qualitative ErosionABSTRACTErosion is one of the natural phenomena that's studied by many because it involves many factors, namely vegetation, soil, climate, topography and humans. The complexity of the factors affecting erosion is simplified through modeling to predict of erosion rates in a region by utilizing remote sensing data and geographic information systems. The erosion control factor used in this research fewer parameters, namely vegetation, soil and topography only. This research was conducted in Serang watershed because it is one of the watersheds which are in critical conditions which can trigger land degradation, erosion and landslides. The purpose of this research was to know the spatial distribution of erosion susceptibility levels in Serang watershed. The approach used was the integration of remote sensing and raster-based geographic information system. Model validation was undertaken based on topograhy factor and observation of qualitative erosion indicators in the field. The indicators used were pedestals, armor layers, root exposure, or other erosion featuress such as rill and gullies. The results show that the resulting model is more effective as a quick solution to the prediction of erosion. Based on the results of the analysis, the spatial distribution of erosion rates is very dominant in the study area, mostly in Kokap, Girimulyo and some of the sub-districts.Keywords: Erosion, Modeling, Qualitative, Serang watershedCitation: Arif, N., Danoedoro, P., dan Hartono.
