Abstract We study theoretically the optical response of a 2D super-crystal of quantum Λ-emitters which are coupled by their secondary dipole field. The latter introduces a feedback into the system, the interplay of which with the intrinsic nonlinearity of emitters results in an exotic behavior of the system’s optical response, such as periodic or quasi-periodic self-oscillations and chaotic dynamics. We argue therefore that these predicted features can be promising for various nanophotonic applications.

<p>Heterogeneous reactions are chemical reactions with conjugation of multiple phases, and they have the intrinsic nonlinearity of their dynamics caused by the effect of surface area between different phases. In earth science, it is important to understand heterogeneous reactions in order to figure out the dynamics of rock formation near surface of the earth. We employ sparse modeling algorithm and sequential Monte Carlo algorithm to partial observation problem, in order to simultaneously extract substantial reaction terms and surface models from a number of candidates. Using our proposed method, we show that heterogeneous reactions can be estimated successfully from noisy observable data under conditions that the number of observed variables is less than that of hidden variables.</p>

The sneak path current (SPC) is the inevitable issue in crossbar memory array while implementing high-density storage configuration. The crosstalks are attracting much attention, and the read accuracy in the crossbar architecture is deteriorated by the SPC. In this work, the sneak path current problem is observed and investigated by the electrical experimental measurements in the crossbar array structure with the half-read scheme. The read margin of the selected cell is improved by the bilayer stacked structure, and the sneak path current is reduced ~20% in the bilayer structure. The voltage-read stress-induced read margin degradation has also been investigated, and less voltage stress degradation is showed in bilayer structure due to the intrinsic nonlinearity. The oxide-based bilayer stacked resistive random access memory (RRAM) is presented to offer immunity toward sneak path currents in high-density memory integrations when implementing the future high-density storage and in-memory computing applications.

The report presents the results of a study of the total and intrinsic nonlinearities as applied to the outer satellites of Jupiter observed on a short arc. The relationship between the nonlinearities and the conditions of satellite observations is revealed. In particular, it is shown that the total nonlinearity is very strong when the observation period is less than 0.1 of the orbital period, while the intrinsic nonlinearity is weak enough for all satellites, which indicates the possibility of using nonlinear methods for adequate modeling of their orbital uncertainty.

Optimization problems are ubiquitous in scientific research, engineering, and daily lives. However, solving a complex optimization problem often requires excessive computing resource and time and faces challenges in easily getting trapped into local optima. Here, we propose a memristive optimizer hardware based on a Hopfield network, which introduces transient chaos to simulated annealing in aid of jumping out of the local optima while ensuring convergence. A single memristor crossbar is used to store the weight parameters of a fully connected Hopfield network and adjust the network dynamics in situ. Furthermore, we harness the intrinsic nonlinearity of memristors within the crossbar to implement an efficient and simplified annealing process for the optimization. Solutions of continuous function optimizations on sphere function and Matyas function as well as combinatorial optimization on Max-cut problem are experimentally demonstrated, indicating great potential of the transiently chaotic memristive network in solving optimization problems in general.

Linear and nonlinear rheological properties of model comb polystyrenes (PS) with loosely to densely grafted architectures were measured under small and medium amplitude oscillatory shear (SAOS and MAOS) flow. This comb PS set had the same length of backbone and branches but varied in the number of branches from 3 to 120 branches. Linear viscoelastic properties of the comb PS were compared with the hierarchical model predictions. The model underpredicted zero-shear viscosity and backbone plateau modulus of densely branched comb with 60 or 120 branches because the model does not include the effect of side chain crowding. First- and third-harmonic nonlinearities reflected the hierarchy in the relaxation motion of comb structures. Notably, the low-frequency plateau values of first-harmonic MAOS moduli scaled with M w − 2 (total molecular weight), reflecting dynamic tube dilution (DTD) by relaxed branches. Relative intrinsic nonlinearity Q0 exhibited the difference between comb and bottlebrush via no low-frequency Q0 peak of bottlebrush corresponding to backbone relaxation, which is probably related to the stretched backbone conformation in bottlebrush.

In this paper, we propose an image encryption algorithm based on a permutation polynomial over finite fields proposed by the authors. The proposed image encryption process consists of four stages: i) a mapping from pixel gray-levels into finite field, ii) a pre-scrambling of pixels’ positions based on the parameterized permutation polynomial, iii) a symmetric matrix transform over finite fields which completes the operation of diffusion and, iv) a post-scrambling based on the permutation polynomial with different parameters. The parameters used for the polynomial parameterization and for constructing the symmetric matrix are used as cipher keys. Theoretical analysis and simulation demonstrate that the proposed image encryption scheme is feasible with a high efficiency and a strong ability of resisting various common attacks. In addition, there are not any round-off errors in computation over finite fields, thus guaranteeing a strictly lossless image encryption. Due to the intrinsic nonlinearity of permutation polynomials in finite fields, the proposed image encryption system is nonlinear and can resist known-plaintext and chosen-plaintext attacks.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to adjust the Gompertz and Logistic nonlinear models for the fresh and dry matter of aerial part and indicate the model that best describes the growth of two rye cultivars in five sowing seasons, as well as to characterize the growth of the cultivars regarding the fresh and dry matter of aerial part. Ten uniformity trials were conducted with the rye crop in 2016. A weekly sampling and evaluation of 10 plants per trial was performed from the time the plants presented one expanded leaf. For each plant, the fresh and dry matter of aerial part were weighed. The Gompertz and Logistic models were adjusted to the accumulated thermal time based on the measures of each trait in each assessment. Also the parameters a, b, and c for each model were estimated and calculated the interval of confidence for each parameter, as well as the inflection points, maximum acceleration, maximum deceleration and asymptotic deceleration. The quality of the model adjustments was verified using the coefficient of determination, Akaike information criterion, and residual standard deviation. The intrinsic nonlinearity and nonlinearity of the parameter effect was quantified. Both models satisfactorily describe the behavior of the fresh and dry matter of aerial part. The Logistic model best describes the growth of rye cultivars. The growth of the cultivars BRS Progresso and Temprano is distinct between sowing seasons. Cultivar BRS Progresso requires a lower thermal time until reaching 50% of its growth when compared to the Temprano cultivar.
