AbstractThe extent to which hand dominance may influence how each agent contributes to inter-personal coordination remains unknown. In the present study, right-handed human participants performed object balancing tasks either in dyadic conditions with each agent using one hand (left or right), or in bimanual conditions where each agent performed the task individually with both hands. We found that object load was shared between two hands more asymmetrically in dyadic than single-agent conditions. However, hand dominance did not influence how two hands shared the object load. In contrast, hand dominance was a major factor in modulating hand vertical movement speed. Furthermore, the magnitude of internal force produced by two hands against each other correlated with the synchrony between the two hands’ movement in dyads. This finding supports the important role of internal force in haptic communication. Importantly, both internal force and movement synchrony were affected by hand dominance of the paired participants. Overall, these results demonstrate, for the first time, that pairing of one dominant and one non-dominant hand may promote asymmetrical roles within a dyad during joint physical interactions. This appears to enable the agent using the dominant hand to actively maintain effective haptic communication and task performance.

Abstract At present, in deep foundation pit engineering, on the one hand, practice is ahead of theory, and on the other hand, theory can not correctly reflect the actual construction process and environmental effects. In order to further study the distribution and change law of earth pressure and internal force of pile body in deep foundation pit pile-anchor supporting system, field monitoring test of earth pressure and pile body reinforcement stress was carried out. The monitoring results show that before excavation, the distribution of earth pressure has a great relationship with the layering of the soil, and it is distributed in sections along the depth. Compared with the theoretical static earth pressure, the measured data of the upper depth is relatively small; after excavation, the overall earth pressure is distributed along the depth in a “z” shape under the non-limiting state. As the excavation progresses, the magnitude of the reduction of the earth pressure varies from place to place, and the magnitude of the decrease of the soil with better properties is not large; after the excavation, the stress and earth pressure of the pile reinforcement correspond to each other, and the distribution is also nonlinear. The existence of anchor tension has an obvious effect on improving the internal force of the pile. The selected earth pressure calculation methods have some discrepancies in the calculation of the earth pressure value of the project, and they need to be further improved. The research in this paper can provide reference and reference for the calculation of earth pressure and support design of pile-anchor supported foundation pit.

Abstract For plane truss structure, starting from the analysis of ideal truss model, the influence of tangential deformation and angular deformation on the secondary internal force of the truss is fully considered through Python program. It is obtained through analysis that: in the ideal truss model, the Pδ second-order effect causes the member to produce tangential deformation and angular deformation, resulting in secondary internal forces. Numerical analysis shows that due to the influence of secondary internal force, the axial force error of ideal truss model can reach 19.731% and the secondary shear force is almost all the members of the truss, and the secondary moment only appears at the support. The research results have important reference value for the engineering design and high-precision internal force analysis of truss structures.

AbstractThis chapter examines how has the relevance of political science developed in Croatia, Hungary and Lithuania, that is how is the profession engaged with important audiences, namely the student body, society at large and pragmatic politics. Similar to the Western context the normative and pragmatic understanding of relevance appear in these emerging political science communities while identity formation and the achievement and preservation of legitimacy also define how political science can become relevant. The concept of relevance is built on three dimensions related to three potential fields of engagement: knowledge provision, social presence and practical impact. This chapter highlights that the profession continues to be beset by problems relating to the issue of relevance but differences between the countries are pronounced. Moreover, the three main aspects of relevance have not been achieved to the same level within the same country although we can duly expect a degree of adjustment as the three aspects are interconnected and will influence one another. This chapter argues that the development of relevance is a two-way process: government and university policies act as the external context, while the profession’s interests, commitment and ambitions constitute the internal force marking the way forward.

By using the ABAQUS finite element (FE) model, which has been verified by experiments, the deformation and internal force changes of RC columns during the impact process are investigated, and a parametric analysis is conducted under different impact kinetic energies Ek. According to the development path of the bottom bending moment-column top displacement curve under impact, the member is in a slight damage state when the curve rebounds before reaching the peak and in a moderate or severe damage state when the curve exceeds the peak, in which case the specific damage state of the member needs to be determined by examining whether there is a secondary descending stage in the curve. Accordingly, a qualitative method for evaluating the bending failure of RC column members under impact is obtained. In addition, the damage state of RC columns under impact can also be quantitatively evaluated by the ratio of the equivalent static load Feq and the ultimate static load-bearing capacity Fsu.

A steel-batten ribbed cable dome structural system is proposed. By replacing the upper flexible cables with semi-rigid steel battens, rigid roofing materials were conveniently installed overhead via non-bracket or less-bracket technology. Additionally, an 8 m diameter test model was designed, and a ‘ω’ shaped less-bracket consequent hoist-dragging system was adopted. Finally, the test model was tested under symmetric and asymmetric uniform loading arrangements, while a finite element model was established to verify the test values. The results indicate that the measured values are basically consistent with the finite element values. In the early steps of hoisting and dragging, the structure establishes a prestress, accumulates stiffness, and found its internal force balance, while the entire structure keeps a “ω” shape to guarantee stability. As the internal forces of the components increase, the structure turns from “ω” to “m” and finally reached its designed shape. With increasing symmetric uniform load, the internal forces of the cables decrease, the bending stresses of the steel battens increase, and the steel battens remain in the elastic stage. Under an asymmetric uniform load, the high loaded area is displaced downward, and the low loaded area behaves upward, twisting the overall structure.
