The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has prompted the creation of new therapies to help fight against the novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). Bamlanivimab is a SARS-CoV-2 monoclonal antibody that is administered as an intravenous infusion to ambulatory patients with mild or moderate COVID-19, but a concern that arose was deciding the optimal location for patients to receive the medication. This report describes the development and implementation of a bamlanivimab infusion center in the emergency department of three hospitals in Orange County, California, shortly after bamlanivimab received emergency use authorization. As a result, a total of 601 patients received bamlanivimab in one of these three emergency departments between December 2020 to April 2021. The emergency department was shown to be an optimal setting for administration of bamlanivimab due to its convenience, accessibility, and capabilities for monitoring patients.

In the present study, cylindrical ABS P400 polymer parts (diameter 6.5 mm) to be used as die-sinking EDM (electric discharge machining) novel electrodes were fabricated using a fused deposition modeling (FDM) process. To meet the conductivity requirement in EDM, ABS parts were metallized using an innovative method that comprised putting aluminum–charcoal (Al–C) on them followed by their copper electroplating. Real-time EDM of the mild steel workpiece was performed using novel electrodes, and machining performance of the electrodes, measured in terms of dimensional accuracy, i.e., change in diameter (ΔD) and change in depth (ΔH) of the cavity, under varying levels of three EDM factors, i.e., current (I), pulse on time (Ton), and pulse off time (Toff), was investigated. Machining results were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), perturbation graphs, and 3D surface plots. The optimal setting of the EDM parameters for minimizing ΔD and ΔH was determined using the desirability function approach. The suitability of the novel electrodes for EDM was ascertained by comparing their machining results with those of solid copper (SC) electrodes and electrodes fabricated by FDM and metallized using the electro-deposition method (FDM-EM), already reported in the literature, under similar machining conditions. From the results, it was found that ΔD and ΔH were less when EDM was performed using novel electrodes.

Summary Social media is part of the lives of young adults. Their influence extends to health behavior or nutrition. “Fitness challenges” often appear and they should affect the motivation to exercise, body composition changes, performance improvement. 67 healthy young adults (32 women, 20.3 years; 35 men, 20.8 years) took part in the “challenge”, where they completed 3 series of 12 – 15 push-ups every day for 30 days. After the intervention, both groups showed a statistically significant (α = 0.01) improvement, women 5.8 repetitions, men by 7 repetitions. The research was supplemented by a questionnaire, which showed a positive effect on increasing motivation for this activity. Furthermore, it has been shown that “fitness challenges” bring obvious health risks that need to be taken into account. It seems that with the optimal setting of the content of the exercise program, the “fitness challenge” can be a good instrument of increasing the physical acitivty, motivation to exercise, and positively influencing strength performance.

AbstractAcute respiratory failure (ARF) is still the major cause of intensive care unit (ICU) admission for hematological malignancy (HM) patients although the advance in hematology and supportive care has greatly improved the prognosis. Clinicians have to make decisions whether the HM patients with ARF should be sent to ICU and which ventilation support should be administered. Based on the reported investigations related to management of HM patients with ARF, we propose a selection procedure to manage this population and recommend hematological ICU as the optimal setting to recuse these patients, where hematologists and intensivists can collaborate closely and improve the outcomes. Moreover, noninvasive ventilation (NIV) still has its own place for selected HM patients with ARF who have mild hypoxemia and reversible causes. It is also crucial to monitor the efficacy of NIV closely and switch to invasive mechanical ventilation at appropriate timing when NIV shows no apparent improvement. Otherwise, early IMV should be initiated to HM with ARF who have moderate and severe hypoxemia, adult respiratory distress syndrome, multiple organ dysfunction, and unstable hemodynamic. More studies are needed to elucidate the predictors of ICU mortality and ventilatory mode for HM patients with ARF.

Wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) technology is often used for the final machining of parts to the required surface quality without further finishing operations. At the same time, WEDM has a significant advantage over other machining technologies, and in the fact, it is possible to machine all materials, regardless of their hardness or toughness, it only needs to be at least electrically conductive. Aviation nickel superalloy Mar-M247, which is usually machined to the final form by parts using WEDM, was the subject of research in this study. In order to find the optimal setting of machine parameters (Pulse on time, Pulse off time, and Discharge current) for multicut machining, an extensive design of experiment was performed with a total of 54 circles, which optimized the cutting speed in the first and second cuts and the topography of the machined surface was taken into account in the third cut. Subsequently, an analysis of the topography and morphology of the machined samples was performed, including an analysis of the condition of the subsurface layer. The study also included the analysis of the lamella in a transmission electron microscope. It was found that with the maximization of the cutting speed in the third cut, the surface topography deteriorates proportionally, but it also leads to the complete removal of all cracks formed in the first cut.

Viewing nature has restorative qualities that might help people cope with their personal struggles. Three lab experiments (N = 506) studied whether environment (nature vs. built) influences cognitive coping with psychological distress. Psychological distress was induced with an autobiographical recall task about serious regret, whereafter participants were randomly assigned to view a nature or built video. Cognitive coping (i) Quantity, (ii) Content, and (iii) Quality were hereafter assessed as well as extent and vividness of the regretful memory during the video. Results showed a higher cognitive coping Quantity (Study 1 and 3) and a higher cognitive coping Quality (All studies) for the nature (vs. built) condition. Regarding cognitive coping Content, results varied across the studies. Additionally, participants reported to have thought about the experienced psychological distress to a greater extent while viewing the nature (vs. built) video. Yet they did rate viewing nature as more relaxing. We propose a two-step pathway as an underlying mechanism of restoration. In the first step the capacity for directed attention replenishes. Secondly, this renewed capacity is directed towards internal processes, creating the optimal setting for reflection. Hence, viewing nature allows people to truly process whatever is occupying their minds, which is ultimately relieving and beneficial for mental health.

Abstract Application of agro-industrial waste in microbial fermentation is interesting in economic and environmental aspects. Carotenoids production by Rhodotorula toruloides KP324973 was investigated using corn steep liquor (CSL) as sole carbon source. Haldane model with constants µmax = 0.056 h-1, KS = 1.54 vv-1%, and KI = 58.58 vv-1% showed best describe of cell growth kinetics on CLS. A same maximum carotenoid production rate (Rp) about 2.23 μg gcell-1 h-1 was obtained at initial CSL concentration of 5 v/v% after 72 h and 21 h in batch cultivation in shaken flasks and bubble column reactor (BCR), respectively. Further improvement of carotenogenesis was followed by fed-batch cultivation in BCR where the optimal setting of factors at feed flow rate of 5 mL h-1, pH of 5.66, and temperature 14 ˚C gained a highest Rp = 8.686 μg gcell-1 h-1. Chromatographic analysis showed more than 94% of produced carotenes was β-carotene.

The process of selecting optimal settings for directional over-current relays (DOC relays) is a selection of time dial setting (TDS) and IP (backup current), So that changes in the system of electrical power distribution. In this work, a breeder genetic algorithm (BGA) has been applied to optimal settings of DOC relays with multisystem D-FACTS devices. The simulation consists of two network operation scenarios, scenario without D-FACTS which consisting of coordination of DOC relays against three phase faults, and the second scenarios with multi TCSC. In general, had been verified on optimal settings of relays that the impacts of TCSC insertion in 33-bus distribution system on DOC relays.
