Terminological Analysis of the Term “Monograph”

Today the term “monograph” requires careful consideration, since the essence of the term itself is being changed over time and it takes into account the changing conditions in scholarly communication. The purpose of article is by means of the terminological analysis to identify the essential attributes of monograph, reflected in its various definitions. The article considers the terminological analysis of the term “monograph” according to a number of attributes: its material structure, intended purpose, presentation of material, coverage, number of authors, target audience, functions of a monograph for an author and a reader. The author used Russian language and English language dictionaries and research results as the main sources. There considered several approaches to understanding the term “monograph” (natural science interpretation of a monograph as a description of individual types and subjects, a monograph as a treatise on a single theme or problem, and a monograph as a separate publication in the form of a book). Main results are: the determination of the the attributes of a monograph reflecting its essence from the point of view of Russian speaking and English speaking practice, as well as the attributes of a scholarly monograph. The distinction among scholarly, industrial-practical and popular science monographs is typical only for Russian speaking practice, while monograph is primarily a treatise (scientific edition) for English sources. A reputational function of a monograph can become the prevailing function for an author, and sometimes it can be the only one purpose to write it. It is concluded that the main attributes of a scholarly monograph can be considered: the intended purpose - a scholarly one; the coverage - one theme or a problem; the number of authors - one or more authors; the target audience - specialists; the function for an author - the reputational one; the function for a reader - the informative one.

Hermeneutics of Old Russian Literature

The Serial Scientific Edition Hermeneutics of Old Russian Literature (HORL) is a collection of monographs and articles devoted to the Russian literature of the 11th – 17th centuries. The Serial Scientific Edition is based on the research of representatives of the Moscow school of hermeneutics, which is actively developing in science today, which sets itself the task of interpreting and comprehending Old Russian and Old Slavonic texts, developing a methodology of scientific evidence, a syncretic study of the history of literary and artistic works of small and large medieval literary forms. The research methodology, presented in the Serial Scientific Edition Hermeneutics of Old Russian Literature, is based primarily on the explanation of phenomena, their connection with social thought, the psychology of literary creativity, history, and in this sense, the Serial Scientific Edition continues the scientific traditions of studying Old Russian literature laid by N.K. Gudziy, V.D. Kuzmina. At the same time, unlike the above-mentioned school, textology is the starting point of hermeneutical research in the field of medieval Russian literature. A large corpus of works in Serial Scientific Edition is devoted to the problems of poetics, style, aesthetics of Old Russian literature. Continuing and developing the scientific directions of studying old Russian texts of the 11th – 17th centuries, the sources of which are the works of F.I. Buslaev, A.S. Orlov, D.S. Likhachev, the Moscow school of hermeneutics nevertheless represents an original direction in the study of medieval texts, since the triad is based on the research presented in the Serial Scientific Edition: textology – poetics – hermeneutics (i.e. interpretation and explanation based on a multitude of facts). Such an integrated approach, supported by a comparative analysis involving the comparison of old Russian texts with medieval Slavic and Western European texts, allows hermeneutics to detect such phenomena that are not revealed with other research methods. Due to this scientific approach to the study of the medieval texts and monographs, the articles presented in Serial Scientific Edition Hermeneutics of Old Russian Literature open up new dimensions in understanding of old Russian texts of the 11th – 17th centuries, both well-known and newly introduced into scientific circulation.

DIGITAL IDENTIFIERS FOR LIBRARY SCIENTIFIC PUBLICATIONS

The value of the digital identifier DOI as a unique hyperlink for direct connection with a publication is underlined. The main requirements of the agency CrossRef for obtaining the digital identifier DOI are considered. The most famous international systems of unique identifiers of scientists, scientific publications, scientific issues as well the national open index of scientific citation of OUCI are considered. The process of assigning a unique DOI code to the scientific edition of Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine (VNLU) is highlighted.

New perspectives and challenges for the Brazilian Journal of Exercise Physiology

We are beginning a new cycle of the Brazilian Journal of Exercise Physiology. In these next two years (2020-2021), I will be in charge of the scientific edition of the magazine and I will certainly need your help to build an increasingly interesting, solid and good scientific quality journal.Initially I would like to thank the executive editors Jean-Louis Peytavin and Guillermina Arias for the invitation and trust. I would also like to thank all colleagues who gladly accepted the invitation to participate in the scientific council of the magazine. And finally, I would like to thank the reviewers, who are an essential part of maintaining a scientific journal.As you can see, we implemented some changes already in this edition. Now all articles will be published in at least two versions - Portuguese and English and some in Spanish and English. This change is important for our magazine to achieve greater international visibility. English is the universal language of research, therefore, for our articles to be read by other nationalities, who do not speak Portuguese, they must also be in the English version. Therefore, we are calling on all researchers to translate it into English after the final acceptance of their article. With this, we hope, in addition to increasing the journal's visibility and favoring its internationalization, to attract the attention of researchers from other countries so that they also publish in our journal.You will also notice the change in the layout of the articles. We try to make your visualization more professional, making the name of the magazine, the DOI, the name of the authors very visible and even in the header, we insert an item - “How to Cite”, which already makes the way of citing the article in Vancouver, the norm ready, that most scientific journals use as a standard for their references. I cannot forget to give credit to Marvyn de Santana do Sacramento, who created this new format. You will also observe that some authors recorded short videos presenting their articles. This idea is intended to increase the magazine's visibility, as these videos can be sent through social networks and arouse the interest of other readers.In addition, we are aiming to publish six issues a year and are also beginning to accept new types of articles. Until today, the Brazilian Journal of Exercise Physiology basically published original articles, case reports and reviews. We are encouraging researchers to send us opinion articles, updates, letters to the editor and commented articles. The rules for these new article templates will be available in detail in the next edition. In this magazine, you will find an opinion article sent by Professor Marzo Grigoletto and an update sent by Professor Giulliano Gardenghi, who also received the designation of featured article of this edition. “I beg you to reply me to the point...” Readers’ letters to M.A. Sholokhov. 1929–1955. Scientific edition

The book represents the collection of reader’s letters addressed to M.A. Sholokhov — it is one of the largest and most unique in the history of Russian literature. These first published readers’ letters, 1929–1955 from the archives of Moscow and Veshenskaya stanitsa (M.A. Sholokhov Museum-Reserve and Sholokhov family archive) recreate in a new way the picture of the historical and literary process of the twentieth century, reveal the content of dialogue between Sholokhov and his readers, expanding and deepening not only the perception of the history of Russian literature of the Soviet era, but also the twentieth century as a whole in Russian culture — as the century of a reader. The book is addressed to philologists, historians, sociologists and to a wide general readership.

To Get to Know the Personality (Review on: M. Yu. Voronova (2019), The Theory and Practice of a Publicistic Portrait: a Scientific Edition, LAT & K, Kyiv, 312 p.)

The objective of the study is to analyze Malvina Voronova’s monograph “The Theory and Practice of a Publicistic Portrait” on the basis of research of its content, as well as to identify its importance for scientific development of this issue in the Ukrainian journalistic science and further development of genre of a publicistic portrait in journalistic practice. Methodology of the study. The methods of analysis of documentary sources, observation, selection, division and interpretation of theoretical material of the analyzed monograph, as well as analytical method are used in the research. Results of the study. M. Voronova’s monograph is the first comprehensive and in-depth study of the theory and practice of a publicistic portrait in the Ukrainian journalistic science. The author considers it not only as a journalistic genre but also more broadly as a socio-cultural phenomenon. The original classification of types of publicistic portrait is offered. The author managed to implement organically her own research concept in the monograph. Except the theoretical parts the availability of appendixes that allow generalizing the genre practitioners’ experience attach particular importance to this monograph. M.Voronova relies on a large volume of empirical data in her research and demonstrates the ability to conduct in-depth analysis of this data. Conclusions. The peer-reviewed research is groundbreaking in the choice of topic and the quality of its development. It is a major contribution to further development of journalistic science, including genre studies. The monograph may also be useful for portraitistspractitioners for further upgrading their skills.
