There are many medicinal plants that have various medicinal properties in their different parts. The medicinal plants are major backbone of pharmaceutical industries. In this article we compare the antioxidants properties from various plants parts (root, stem, leaf, flower and bark) of the most important medicinal plant, Justicia adhatoda L. Various plant parts showed the good amount of antioxidant properties. These results enhance the medicinal properties of this plant due to the presence of good amount of antioxidants; among all the plant parts leaves and flowers showed maximum natural antioxidants, hence the study could be saying that this plant has good efficacy of antioxidants.

ObjectivesThe aim of this work was to investigate the activity of ceftazidime–avibactam (CZA) and aztreonam–avibactam (AZA) against bloodstream infections caused by carbapenem-resistant organisms (CROs).MethodsNon-duplicate CROs, including 56 carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli (CR-Eco), 318 carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae (CR-Kpn), and 65 carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CR-Pae), were collected using the Blood Bacterial Resistant Investigation Collaborative System (BRICS) program in China. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 24 antibiotics were tested. Carbapenemase genes were amplified for CZA-resistant CROs by PCR. The MICs of CZA and AZA were further determined with avibactam at 8 and 16 mg/L, respectively.ResultsThe resistance rate of polymyxin B against CROs was less than 5%. Only one CR-Kpn was resistant to tigecycline. The resistance rates of CZA against CR-Eco, CR-Kpn, and CR-Pae were 75.0%, 12.6%, and 18.5%, respectively. The MIC90 values of AZA against CR-Eco, CR-Kpn, and CR-Pae were 2/4, 1/4, and 64/4 mg/L, respectively. Among the CZA-resistant CROs, 42 (100%) CR-Eco, 24 (60%) CR-Kpn, and 1 (8.3%) CR-Pae isolates harbored metallo-β-lactamase genes. The increase of avibactam concentration enhanced the susceptibility of CZA and AZA against CROs, especially for CR-Eco and CR-Kpn.ConclusionsThe in vitro activity of AZA was superior to that of CZA against CR-Eco and CR-Kpn, whereas CZA showed better effect against CR-Pae.

Abstract2-Oxoglutarate (2OG) oxygenases are validated agrochemical and human drug targets. The potential for modulating their activity with 2OG derivatives has not been explored, possibly due to concerns regarding selectivity. We report proof-of-principle studies demonstrating selective enhancement or inhibition of 2OG oxygenase activity by 2-oxo acids. The human 2OG oxygenases studied, factor inhibiting hypoxia-inducible transcription factor HIF-α (FIH) and aspartate/asparagine-β-hydroxylase (AspH), catalyze C3 hydroxylations of Asp/Asn-residues. Of 35 tested 2OG derivatives, 10 enhance and 17 inhibit FIH activity. Comparison with results for AspH reveals that 2OG derivatives selectively enhance or inhibit FIH or AspH. Comparison of FIH structures complexed with 2OG derivatives to those for AspH provides insight into the basis of the observed selectivity. 2-Oxo acid derivatives have potential as drugs, for use in biomimetic catalysis, and in functional studies. The results suggest that the in vivo activity of 2OG oxygenases may be regulated by natural 2-oxo acids other than 2OG.

Physical activity is often considered as an essential component of a healthy lifestyle and is required to be studied in detail. It is especially important to study this issue in reference to the population of older age groups. The aim of the research was to analyse subjective and objective characteristics of physical activity in population of older age groups. Methods of sociological survey, parametric and nonparametric statistics were used in the work. Data on the characteristics of physical activity were obtained on the basis of a study of 1,045 subjects of both genders aged 60 years and older. The participants of the survey did not have any kinds of disability and were not engaged in any sport activities. According to the results of the study, the age of the men and women was the determinant of assessing a level of physical activity. The average level of physical activity prevailed in men aged 60–74 years. Low levels of physical activity prevailed in men aged 75 years and older. Women had mostly low levels of physical activity. Comparison of subjective and objective characteristics of physical activity showed a significant overestimation of subjective characteristics of high levels of physical activity and underestimation of the prevalence of low levels of physical activity in both men and women. As a result of gender comparisons, it was revealed that men aged 60–74 years overestimated their level of physical activity by a fourfold, while women were more objective assessing their level of physical activity.
