The article examines the life of urban communities of Kyiv in 1880–1881 in the perception of an imperial official, senator Alexander Polovtsov (1832–1909). The author`s concept based on the opinion that an important part of historical urban studies is the analysis of the activities of urban communities. They represent the state of urban life at a particular historical stage. The article uses excerpts from the “Diary” of Alexander Polovtsov, the Head of the Senatorial Revision Commission, dedicated to his stay in Kyiv in the autumn of 1880 and early 1881. This source is valuable mainly because the author, who did not live in Kyiv (wider — in Ukraine), looked at inhabitants of the city from “outside”. Such a detached view allows us to see Kyiv citizens, firstly the officials of the administrative and administrative apparatus, clergy, landlords, intellectuals — from conservatives to liberals — through the eyes of an “outsider”, a representative of imperial power. At the same time, the article presents diaries and memoirs of representatives of the Kyiv national-democratic intelligentsia, where the events described by Alexander Polovtsov are shown from a different perspective. This perspective of the study deepens the ideas about the peculiarities of the social and cultural life of Kyiv at a crucial moment in history — on the eve of the death of Alexander II and the accession of Alexander III and the change in the political course of the Empire. The informative character of Polovtsov`s diary is determined by its genre specificity. The text is full of facts, descriptions of events, meetings with people. From the position of the imperial high official represented a diverse range of beliefs, opinions, and attitudes of Kyivans in the field of politics, economics, land tenure, education, urban development, etc. The diary is full of succinct descriptions of the individuals contacted by the author. Polovtsov`s assessments help to understand not only how the tsarist government dealt with pressing economic, social and political problems in Ukraine. It helps understand the actions in resolving urgent economic and sociopolitical problems of Ukrainian provinces, the tsarist official`s own attitude to the people in whose milieu he found himself.

The training of veterinary surgeons, in conditions that do not allow for surgical intervention, requires the use of modern interactive teaching aids. These include educational surgical video. Providing auditory and visual perception of information, it has high informative character. Surgical video gives the opportunity to communicate to each student all the intricacies of the operation, without requiring its presence on it, allows you to demonstrate all stages of the process, being in the most comfortable point of perception. Watching a high-quality video that reproduces the dangerous work of a surgeon without risk completely helps to master the necessary material. Another important advantage of the educational video is that the student can view it on his own, in order to acquaint or repeat the material, as well as to store it on disk media. In the course of research, an analysis of scientific sources on the use of educational videos in higher education was conducted. In order to obtain data on the use of surgical video, by the students studying operative surgery, were used such sociological methods as surveys, observations, questionnaires. According to the data obtained in the study of operative surgery, all students use the abstract of classroom lessons and surgical video. 75% of them use the textbook and 25% of the surgical sites. However, among those who take information on surgical sites, 70% are looking for text materials and 30% are browsing photos and pictures. In preparation for a real operation, all students prefer a video showing the entire operation from beginning to end. With the educational purpose of such a movie would be to view ¾ of the students surveyed, and for others it is short enough. 50% of the students after the first review of the video tutorial on the topic in the lecture room at home look for similar materials and revisit them as well as download their media. The work opens the prospect of further research on the use of surgical video in the preparation of veterinary surgeons.

Health and illness are to be understood as two sides of the same coin. The human being is neither healthy nor sick, rather there is a constant effort for a balance, only then can one speak of an approach to health. In this context, symptoms take on an informative character and indicate longings (needs) that have not been fulfilled.

The purpose – perfection of the technology for controlling the speed-strength abilities of ski-racers based on the data received with the Myotest PRO accelerometer (Switzerland). Research methods and organization. The study involved 124 cross-country skiers at different stages of sport training. Assessment of the speed-strength abilities of lower extremity muscles of skiers was carried out using the Myotest PRO accelerometer (Switzerland). Research results. The dynamics of changes in the speed-strength abilities of the lower extremity muscles indi- cates a decrease in the speed component of the power of skiers at the beginning of the sport excellence stage. Conclusion. The study revealed the informative character of the jumping tests based on the data received with the "Myotest PRO" accelerometer (Switzerland), which aimed at the exploration of speed-strength abilities of lower extremity muscles of skiers. Differentiated assessment of speed-strength components of the exercise intensity helps to assess strong and weak points of physical fitness of skiers and to adjust the training process.

Te article deals with the specifcs of teaching Russian as a native language in the Russian school and as a non-native language in non-Russian schools. Tis specifcity is determined by the fact that with the same content of the subject “Russian language”, the ways of mastering language units and the formation of speech skills in native and non-native speakers are different. In this regard, the problems of motivational and informative character are considered. Te authors conclude that the assimilation of the second language is accompanied by the assimilation of a new linguistic picture of the world. Te interrelated study of language and culture ultimately contributes to the formation of a bilingual person capable of using the means of Russian and native languages, taking into account the specifcs of national cultures. Te necessity and expediency of the development of various methods of teaching Russian as a native and as a non-native language, as well as the need to create special textbooks of the Russian language for Russian and non-Russian schools are considered. Te authors are convinced that in modern conditions it is necessary to develop nationally oriented textbooks of the Russian language, taking into account the specifcs of the native language of students, especially because in some national republics work in this direction has been conducted for a long time.

The task is to estimate the period of technological pipelines safe operation depending on the total influence of oil refining equipment technical parameters. 9 feature properties of technological pipelines were singled out, and the estimation was made with the help of such indicator as the residual life of pipelines. The authors constructed a mathematical model, calculated the diagnostic coefficients and informative character of the characteristic for each period accepted by the expert. A mechanism for estimating the safe operational lifetime of pipeline systems is proposed. Conclusions were drawn about the advisability of applying the proposed method for solving this class of problems.

The article considers new criteria for quantitative assessment of value contradictions — value oppositions and an indicator of value-intentional coherence — that develop Schwartz’s ideas about harmonious, neutral or oppositional relationships of values in the structure of value consciousness. Using statistical analysis, the informative character of the criteria in predicting the success of the formation of professional competencies and assessing the effectiveness of human adaptation to unfavorable socio-psychological conditions is shown. A hypothesis is formulated about the possibility of applying the criteria of value contradictions as a measure of intentional competence, the intensity of an intrapersonal conflict, the success of the formation of professional competencies and the integration of the identity of a person. The obtained results testify to the prospects of using the developed psychodiagnostic criteria in the practice of psychological and personnel counseling, psychological support of the educational process, and also to assess the intensity of social and psychological adaptation.

The genus Monochoria is represented in Sri Lanka by only two species, M. hastata and M. vaginalis. Of the two species M. vaginalis exhibits a high morphological diversity. A morphometric analysis was performed on the Sri Lankan members of the genus Monochoria to evaluate the morphological diversity exhibited by comparing 34 vegetative, anatomical and reproductive characters. Both cluster and principal coordinate analyses resulted in four clusters of which one corresponded to M. hastata, while M. vaginalis was divided into three phenetic groups indicating that the Sri Lankan M. vaginalis is a species complex involving more than one taxon. The length ratio of the lower spathe petiole to inflorescence stalk was identified as an informative character in delimiting the phenetic groups, a character that has not been considered before. Further, the occurrence of sub-palisade cavities that are filled with a red colored liquid in the leaves of two phenetic groups was a novel character for the genus as well as the family Pontederiaceae. Keywords: Monochoria vaginalis; Morphological data; Sub-palisade cavities; Principal coordinate anaysis.Bangladesh J.
