The various dune fixation actions began in 1982 in the study area (El Mesrane –Djelfa) at the level of the dune ridge with very interesting results, on the one hand for the control of desertification through the creation of a microclimate that ensures the ecological sustainability of fragile ecosystems. This work was carried out in the two projects (1) and (2) in the study area. The objective of the study is summarized in the floristic and ecological char-acterization of the vegetation subject to fixation and other left without fixa-tion or natural regeneration. These dunes have a poorer floristic diversity than those fixed by Retama Retam webb and Tamarix gallica. A significant diversity of 26 species was encountered on dunes naturally fixed by vegeta-tion.The Shannon-Weiner diversity index for the vegetation of natural fixa-tion was found to be H’= 2.05; however, this index for dunes naturally fixed by Retama retam and Tamarix gallicawas 2,61 and 2,5, respectively. In gen-eral, dicotyledonous plant families such as the Asteraceae, Fabaceae and Poaceae were mostly encountered. Moreover, the distribution of biologic types is mainly characterized by the predominance of Chamephytes and The-rophytes. The degradation of the environment due to the anthropogenic pressure favors the high presence of Therophytes. These findings allowed deducing that the degradation of vegetation is mainly attributed to climatic conditions and overgrazing.

Aim and Objective: Currently, the use of ingredients from natural sources has gained great attention in cosmetic field especially for the development of new photoprotective formulations. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the cosmetic potential of the methanolic crude extract and the ethyl acetate fraction of the medicinal halophyte Tamarix gallica (Tg) growing in the area of Tebessa in eastern of Algeria, by assessing their phenolic and flavonoid contents, photoprotective and antioxidant activities. Methods: The research approach consisted of determination phenolic and flavonoid contents of aerial parts via FolinCiocalteu and aluminum chloride methods respectively. The antioxidant activity was measured through two in vitro methods DPPH radical scavenging activity and total antioxidant capacity test (TAC). The in vitro photoprotective effect was performed according to the parameter SPF (Sun Protection Factor) by using UV spectroscopic method in UV-B region (290-320 nm). Results: The methanolic extract (Tg-MeOH) and ethyl acetate (Tg-EtOAc) fraction showed good antioxidant activity with IC50’s 14,05±0,66, 27,58±1,98 µg/mL respectively in DPPH test. Furthermore, both extracts displayed strong total antioxidant capacity (287.01±7.85, 246.7±1.12 mg AAE/g, respectively) in TAC test. Both extracts exhibited high photoprotective activity, with sun protection factor (SPF) values 37.03±0.22 and 36.08±0.03. The antioxidant and photoprotective activities of these extracts is probably related to polyphenols content (190.27±0.74 mg AGE /g and 121.77±1.29 mg AGE /g, respectively) , and flavonoids (78.75±0.06 mg QE /g and 58.67±1.19mg/g). Conclusion: Our finding show that extracts of Tamarix gallica L could be a promising source to be mixed as natural sunscreens and antioxidants agent into photoprotective cosmetic formulations.

This research is interested in chemical valorization of the medicinal shrub called Tamarix gallica. The phytochemical study of the extracts of this plant showed that it is rich in phenolic compounds especially the flavonoids. The liquid-liquid extraction by n-butanol and acetate of ethyl of the leaves allowed to us the extraction of the secondary metabolites of class of the flavonoids.The identification of the isolated flavonoids is made by the spectroscopy methods: UV, IR, NMRH, from where we extracted some structures of flavonols class. Keywords: Tamarix gallica, chemical valorization, flavonoids, extraction, spectroscopy analysis, chromatography methods.

Abstract The aerial parts of Tamarix gallica L. taken from three different climatic stages in Algeria (Oum El Bouaghi: Semi-arid, ElTaref: Humid, and Ouargla: Arid) were extracted using boiling distilled water. The crude extracts were subjected to total phenolics and flavonoids quantifications in addition to anti-proliferative assessment against two tumor cell lines namely rat brain tumor (C6) and human cervix carcinoma (HeLa) using BrdU (bromo-deoxyuridine) ELISA(Enzyme-linked immune-sorbent assay) and xCELLigence assay. The total phenolics yield was found to range between 16.14 and 39.32 mg GAE (Gallic acid equivalent)/g of extract and a flavonoids yield ranging between 16.51 and 20.35 mg QE(quercetin equivalent)/g of extract. The various phenolics were identified using HPLC-TOF/MS to highlight hesperidin and rosmarinic Acid as major components. Moreover, the extracts exhibited different levels of antitumor potency against C6 and HeLa cell lines depending upon the climatic stage and the concentration. A good cytotoxic effect was recorded with the species collected from the humid region at 250 μg/mL. On the contrary, the other extracts revealed a weak activity for both tests.
