Abstract The paper presents the results of studies of open discharge breakdown characteristics at nanosecond supply pulse in helium, neon, argon working medium in a wide pressure range. It is shown that the open discharge exists in the range of p He = 20–100 Torr, pNe = 1.5–25 Torr, p Ar = 0.5–3.7 Torr with used experimental conditions. With increasing pressure, the role of separate elementary processes increases which can lead to a change of the discharge form to a presumably avalanche or streamer discharge. However, in this case, due to the photoemissive nature of the open discharge initiation, the similarity law Ep = f(pι) does not coincide with that for a nanosecond avalanche discharge.

The moisture carryover (MCO) of the primary separator in a steam generator is the most important design parameter to ensure high efficiency in a steam generator. There is an inherent limitation to experimentally evaluate the MCO under the prototype conditions. In this study, the air/water test facility was constructed based on the similarity law, and a new isokinetic system was developed to quantify the MCO. Several experiments were performed for the mass quality ranging from 0.315 to 0.382. The accuracy and versatility of the experimental method was verified experimentally using a full and half scale of separators. The test results were compared with the prototype results. It was proved to be a reliable experimental method for evaluating the MCO of the moisture separator.

The main purpose of this investigation is to study the dynamic characteristics of shut-in and restart process in reservoirs with high water cut and strong vertical heterogeneity. The physical model, which includes three layers with low, medium, and high-permeability from top to bottom, was made according to the similarity law. Water drive test, the first restart test, and the second restart test were conducted, respectively. Water cut, oil recovery, and saturation distribution of the remaining oil were obtained during the tests. On this basis, mechanisms of shut-in and restart process of the reservoir were analyzed. It is concluded that appropriate developing plan such as layering mining and cyclic waterflooding should be implemented for developing strong heterogeneity reservoirs. The shut-in and restart tests showed that closing the water-flooded layer is beneficial for enlarging the sweep volume. Besides, water cut of 98% does not mean the economic limits of waterflooding. Under the effect of capillary force and gravitational differentiation, oil and water will redistribute in the formation. The redistribution of the oil and water, the fluctuation of the pressure difference, and the rebuild of the flow path, which produce parts of the bypassed oil, are the main mechanisms of the recovery enhancement by shut-in and restart operation. It should be noted that the shut-in and restart process indeed prolongs the waterflooding development. However, simply replying on the oil and water distribution under static conditions cannot greatly enhance the oil recovery.

This paper discusses the results of experimental studies on the selection of the repair mixture compound for recreating the surface layer of the historical brick of the 18th century architectural monument “Commercial Bank” in Arkhangelsk. According to the research results, it was found that the historical brick has a relatively higher density and increased calcium content than the modern one. The characteristics of the surfaces of the analyzed materials based on the component indicators of specific surface energy showed that the brick of 1859, characterized by the highest degree of destruction, has the maximum value of the polar energy component. This fact may indicate a greater hydrophilicity of the surface in relation to atmospheric water and, as a result, a more intensive degradation process. It is established that the composition of the repair mixture with the addition of brick crumbs in the amount of 50 % has a value of the polar part of the surface tension equal to similar parameters for historical bricks (1786 and 1859) after their preliminary priming. The use of this mixture to recreate the surface layer of the brick will allow atmospheric water to pass freely through the repair compound and the body of the brick, without concentrating on the interface and without causing its destruction and detachment when drying.
