Background. An imbalance of interaction between the sympathetic and parasympathetic links of the autonomic nervous system leads to autonomic dysregulation of the heart rate resulting in insufficient stress resistance, impaired adaptation and depletion of the protective mechanisms of the gastric mucosa. Therefore, the purpose of our research was to study adaptive potential of the body depending on the aggressive and protective factors of the gastric juice. Materials and methods. Seventy-one patients with esophagogastroduodenal pathology were examined using the method of PRECISE-diagnostics. The level of pH, pepsin, glycoproteins, fucose and sialic acids in the gastric contents was determined. The patients were divided into 3 representative groups: I — 30 individuals with hiatal hernia; II — 20 patients with achalasia cardia; III — 21 people with duodenal ulcer disease complicated by stenosis. Results. An imbalance of sympathetic and parasympathetic links of autonomic system was detected in 85.2 % of patients. The sympathetic mechanisms dominated in 71.3 % of cases. At the same time, most patients with achalasia cardia had vagotonia. The adaptive and compensatory mechanisms were identified after studying the relationship between the aggressive and protective factors of the gastric mucosa. When analyzing the correlation of aggressive and protective factors of gastric juice, the following adaptive and compensatory options were revealed: 1) hyperreactive, with simultaneous increase in the factors of both aggression and protection; 2) compensatory (an increase in the level of aggressive factors against the background of normal protective indicators); 3) decompensatory (an increase in the level of aggressive factors simultaneously with a decrease in protective factors). Conclusions. The adaptive potential of the body in 85.2 % of surgical patients, mostly those with hiatal hernia and achalasia cardia, according to PRECISE-diagnostics was defined as reduced, in the form of impaired adaptation in decompensatory type of the relationship between aggressive and protective factors of gastric juice.

Objective: This study determined the lactic acid bacteria (LAB) present in fermented rye, wheat, oat and barley grains, and evaluated their survival in simulated gastric juice and pancreatic juice. Methods: Samples of rye, wheat, oat and barley grains were fermented for 72 hours at room temperature. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains were isolated using MRS agar and were enumerated. Isolated LAB strains were cultured with MRS broth and the fermentation patterns of the isolated strains were characterized using API 50 CH kit (Biomerieux, France). Each isolated LAB strain was exposed to simulated gastric juice at pH of 2.0 for 80 minutes at 370C, followed by exposure to simulated pancreatic juice at pH of 8.0 for 120 minutes at 370C. Aliquots were taken at 0 minute and 80 minutes at pH of 2.0 and 0 minutes and 120 minutes at pH of 8.0 for enumeration of LAB strains. Results: The total LAB cell count ranged from 6.6 * 108 ± 11 cfu/ml in the rye sample to 9.5*109 ± 7 cfu/ml in the oat sample. 13 LAB strains were isolated from the four selected cereal grains and were characterized as six strains of Lactobacillus plantarum1, five strains of L. brevis 1 and one strain each of L. collinoides and Leuconostoc citreum.  All the isolated LAB strains from the four selected cereals survived in the simulated gastric juice at pH of 2.0 (before and after incubation at 0min and 80a min) and after addition of simulated pancreatic juice at pH of 8.0 (before and after incubation at 80b min and 200 min respectively). The mean viable counts of all the strains ranged from 2.0 *108 in R3 at 80b min to 1.54 * 1010 in B4 at 80b minutes. Conclusion: LAB associated with fermentation of rye, wheat, oat and barley grains are likely to survive transport through the harsh acidic and alkaline conditions of the GIT.

Grain before feeding to animals exposed to grinding with the purpose of increasing its digestibility. As a result of this increases the area of interaction of the feed with the gastric juice and decreases the conversion coefficient. Surface theory formulated by German scientist Rittinger, suggests that the work of AR required for the grinding process is directly proportional to newly formed surface. The purpose of this paper is a theoretical evaluation of the intensity of grinding with the use of sieves with rectangular and circular shape holes. When getting groats with the same grinding module by the use of sieves with holes of rectangular shape, one should expect the decrease of specific energy intensity. By reducing the content of dust-like fractions and reduce the total surface feed should be expected to reduce the energy intensity of pneumo transportation.

Abstract Purpose We investigated the role of Glut-1 and H+/K+-ATPase expression in pepsin-induced development of human vocal cord leukoplakia cells (HVCLCs). Next, we analyzed the relationship between Glut-1 and H+/K+-ATPase expression with the clinicopathological features of laryngeal carcinoma. Methods Glut-1 and H+/K+-ATPase expression levels in HVCLCs were determined after treatment with artificial gastric juice containing pepsin and laryngeal carcinoma tissues. Results Exposure to pepsin-containing artificial gastric juice significantly enhanced the migration and proliferation of VSCLCs in a time-dependent manner. The apoptotic rate of VSCLCs decreased over time after exposure to pepsin and reached a nadir on day 7 (p < 0.01). With increasing duration of exposure to pepsin, the proportion of VSCLCs in G0/G1 phase decreased and the proportions in the S and G2/M phases significantly increased (p < 0.05). After treatment with pepsin-containing artificial gastric juice, RT-PCR and Western blotting showed that the expression of Glut-1 and H+/K+-ATPase α, β significantly increased in HVCLCs compared to in the absence of pepsin (p < 0.05). The expression of Glut-1 and H+/K+-ATPase α, β gradually increased from vocal cord leukoplakia (VLC) to laryngeal carcinoma (p < 0.05). Lentivirus-mediated inhibition of Glut-1 expression in VCL significantly inhibited the cells’ migration and proliferation (p < 0.05) but enhanced their apoptosis (p < 0.05). Also, inhibition of Glut-1 expression resulted in an increased proportion of cells in G0/G1 phase and a significantly decreased proportion in G2/M phase (p < 0.05). Conclusions Elevated Glut-1 expression may promote the development of VCL by upregulating laryngeal H+/K+-ATPase expression to reactivate absorbed pepsin, thus damaging the laryngeal mucosa.

Gallium verum, lady's bedstraw is an herbaceous annual plant belonging to the genus Rubiaceae; it possessed antioxidant, cytotoxic for cancer cells, antimicrobial, protective and endocrine effects. This work aimed to investigate the curative effects of G. verum extract on gastric ulcers following absolute ethanol administration in the healthy rat. Eighteen rats were randomly divided into three main groups; rats were fastened for 24 hours before ethanol administration. All groups except control administered ethanol (5 ml/kg body weight; orally). The rats were administrated distilled water (Ulcer group) or G. verum extract (100mg/kg) one hour later. G. verum extract caused a significant decrease in ulcer index, gastric juice volume, malondialdehyde, and nitric oxide, while gastric juice pH, glutathione, glutathione-S-transferase, and catalase increased significantly. The histological lesion score showed a significant enhancement in group G. verum compared to the ulcer group that scored the highest pathological destruction score. Immunohistochemical markers of NF-κB p65 and TNF-α showed a significant decrease in G. verum group. G. verum extract is a promising treatment modality against gastric injury through its powerful antioxidant, acid neutralizing, healing promotion, and ant-inflammation effects.

The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of heartburn and nausea in patients with various forms of chronic gastritis in the Georgian population, how often, in terms of character, intensity and interrelationship, taking into account the histomorphological and morphometric changes in the topographic area of ​​the gastric mucosa, as well as taking into account the parameters of gastric juice secretion parameters. For this purpose, we examined 172 patients with chronic gastritis who were admitted to our therapeutic unit due to disease exacerbation. The analysis of the material revealed two main forms of chronic gastritis: the first chronic pangastritis of varying severity (diffuse antral and fundal gastritis) 141–81.9% and the second chronic gastritis with fundic glands hyperplasia (31–18.02%). The analysis showed that episodes of heartburn were detected in cases of different forms of chronic gastritis, with the highest frequency in patients with form II [chronic gastritis (chronic gastritis with fundic glands hyperplasia)] from 31 cases of chronic form I 18-(58.06%), than in chronic gastritis I form (chronic pangastritis 47-(33.33%) of 141 cases). As regards the frequency of bloating in 47-(33.33%) of 141 patients with form of gastritis I, and 14-(45.16%) in 31 cases of the second form of chronic gastritis. Examination of patients' anamnesis revealed that most patients were not adequately treated, because they were not properly diagnosed in time, which is an important contributing factor to disease progression, complications and heartburn episodes, impaired quality of life, and reduced quality of life.
