Aiming at assisting the color design of cultural creative product and outputting color schemes that correspond to multi-user image preference effectively, an interactive color design method driven by group consensus was proposed in this paper. Firstly, the triangular fuzzy number was used to quantitatively descript users' image preference and a consensus degree model of group users' image preference was constructed. By studying the process and basic principles of interactive genetic algorithms, the interactive evolution operation for cultural creative product color design was then implemented based on the group consistency of decision-making combined with the triangular fuzzy number, which can help generate cultural creative product color schemes that satisfy group consensus and satisfaction. Next, the color aesthetic measure model was used to rank and select the final product color design schemes. Finally, taking the color design of terracotta warriors' statue as an example, it is verified that the proposed method can effectively integrate the image preference of group users, and assist designers to better conduct cultural creative product color design with the consistent results of multi-user decisions.

AbstractAutism is a spectrum disorder with wide variation in type and severity of symptoms. Understanding gene–phenotype associations is vital to unravel the disease mechanisms and advance its diagnosis and treatment. To date, several databases have stored a large portion of gene–phenotype associations which are mainly obtained from genetic experiments. However, a large proportion of gene–phenotype associations are still buried in the autism-related literature and there are limited resources to investigate autism-associated gene–phenotype associations. Given the abundance of the autism-related literature, we were thus motivated to develop Autism_genepheno, a text mining pipeline to identify sentence-level mentions of autism-associated genes and phenotypes in literature through natural language processing methods. We have generated a comprehensive database of gene–phenotype associations in the last five years’ autism-related literature that can be easily updated as new literature becomes available. We have evaluated our pipeline through several different approaches, and we are able to rank and select top autism-associated genes through their unique and wide spectrum of phenotypic profiles, which could provide a unique resource for the diagnosis and treatment of autism. From a purely epistemological point of view, evaluating and predicting the future success of new research projects is often considered very difficult. Is it possible to forecast important findings and breakthrough in science, and if not, then what is the point trying to do it anyway? Still, that is what funding agencies all over the world expect their reviewers to do, but a number of previous studies has shown that this form of evaluation of innovation, promise and future impact are a fundamentally uncertain and arbitrary practice. This is the context that I will discuss in the present essay, and I will claim that there is a deeply irrational element embedded in today’s heavy reliance on experts to screen, rank and select among the increasing numbers of good research projects, because they can, in principal, never discern the true potential behind the written proposals. Hence, I think it is motivated to see grant peer review as an ‘oracle of science’. My overall focus will be on the limits of competitive funding and also that the writing and reviewing of proposals is a waste of researchers’ precious time. And I will propose that we really need to develop new ways of thinking about how we organize research and distribute opportunities within academia.

Purpose However, due to the huge number of studies and on the other hand to be new and creative, the represented models and methods – as the two main parts of this field – have been got more complicated, which consequently have been turned into unpractical research studies for the realistic situations. Therefore, the purpose of this study is the representation of a novel and simple method to deal with the aforementioned gap. Design/methodology/approach To this end, Fazl-Tash method have been proposed, in which a thorough and complete model including 114 criteria and a simple technique to rank and select the best supplier have been presented. Sustainability and resiliency are considered in collecting criteria effective on supplier selection. Findings The method was carried out in a case study in an industrial company. The efficiency of the proposed method is evaluated in comparison with other conventional approaches. Originality/value As selecting the supplier plays a crucial role to bring some important advantages for companies, such as coping with the cost and time problems and influencing the majority of contemporary markets’ requirements, in recent years, there have been representing more effective studies in the supplier selection literature.

Background: In electromagnetic shielding topics, the selection of suitable shields is an important subject and the lack of a specific ranking index for choosing protective shields causes problems in decision-making. Thus, this study proposes a quantitative index to rank and select electromagnetic shields in radiofrequency and microwave radiation. Objectives: The objective of this study was to construct a simple quantitative index to rank and select electromagnetic shields in radiofrequency and microwave radiation. Methods: A cross-sectional study was designed. In this study, the construction of the ranking index was carried out in four main stages including stabilizing the concept, analytical structure and variable selection, weighing and combination of variables, and validating the index. In this study, the average, minimum, maximum, and standard deviation of shielding effectiveness were considered the main phenomenon variables. Finally, the ranking index and ranking difference index were created as percentages to rank and select electromagnetic shields. Results: In this study, a quantitative index was made as percentages called "Ranking Index" to rank and select the premier and preferable shield. Moreover, to indicate the difference in the shielding effectiveness of various shields, the "Difference Index" was made as percentages. Conclusions: This study presented a simple quantitative index to rank electromagnetic shields. It could be used as a selection tool in radiation safety management. Moreover, this ranking index had a simple formula that could be calculated easily and quickly in excel software with high accuracy and low cost. In addition, it could be easily incorporated into a user-friendly tool for the ease of application. A case study of electromagnetic nanocomposite shields was conducted to use the Ranking Index, which showed its capability for ranking the shielding performance of studied electromagnetic shields. This index can create similar scientific literature to report the efficacy of electromagnetic shields and the selection of preferred shields in different research studies. It is suggested that future studies examine this quantitative index in other frequency ranges.

In contrast to ab-initio protein modeling methodologies, comparative modeling is considered as the most popular and reliable algorithm to model protein structure. However, the selection of the best set of templates is still a major challenge. An effective template-ranking algorithm is developed to efficiently select only the reliable hits for predicting the protein structures. The algorithm employs the pairwise as well as multiple sequence alignments of template hits to rank and select the best possible set of templates. It captures several key sequences and structural information of template hits and converts into scores to effectively rank them. This selected set of templates is used to model a target. Modeling accuracy of the algorithm is tested and evaluated on TBM-HA domain containing CASP8, CASP9 and CASP10 targets. On an average, this template ranking and selection algorithm improves GDT-TS, GDT-HA and TM_Score by 3.531, 4.814 and 0.022, respectively. Further, it has been shown that the inclusion of structurally similar templates with ample conformational diversity is crucial for the modeling algorithm to maximally as well as reliably span the target sequence and construct its near-native model. The optimal model sampling also holds the key to predict the best possible target structure.

Supplier management is critical for supply chain management (SCM). The aim of supplier selection is to find an order of preference among potential suppliers. However, the ranking results for supplier selection may not be important, particularly when the performances are conflicting or have minor differences. Different criteria may have different impacts on the ranking results, and different decision makers may place different priorities on multiple criteria. Relatively worse suppliers may still have to be used for many practical reasons. One alternative is supplier development, but it has been focused on categorizing individual suppliers for possible action plans. A new framework is proposed in this research to address supplier selection and supplier development at the same time in the publishing and printing industries. First, the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (fuzzy AHP) and data envelopment analysis (DEA) are sequentially performed to rank and select the best supplier(s) of a publishing company. In addition to ranking suppliers, a managerial analysis is proposed to assess the impact of important criteria on supplier selection in more detail. Finally, the results of the DEA are provided for direct supplier development without supplier categorization. This research shows that the proposed framework effectively addresses supplier development as well as supplier selection in the publishing and printing industries.
