Early orthodontic research has focused on the link between face shape and malocclusion. Orthodontic treatment's effectiveness and stability are heavily influenced by a patient's dental and facial anatomy. An orthodontist's knowledge of arch shapes is essential since it affects the patient's treatment and future growth. For this study, the researchers wanted to see if there was a link between vertical face morphology and arch width, and if there was a difference in arch width between males and females. Arch width measurements (in millimetres) were utilised to determine the association. For both males and females, participants with the lowest mandibular plane angle had the widest arch, followed by those with the average mandibular angle and those with the highest.

Kata kunci: sekrup ekspansi, ortodonti lepasan, lebar interkaninus, rahang atasABSTRACTIntroduction: The use of expansion screws in removable orthodontics is used to widen the dental arch. The dental arch width can be measured one of them by calculating the intercanine width. The aim of this study was to evaluation the use of expansion screws for changes in maxillary intercanine width based on activation time groups. Method: This research used analytic method. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. Results: Based on the results of analytical calculations, the value of t stat has a value smaller than t Critical two-tail, the results obtained indicate that there are significant differences in changes in intercanine width in the two time groups. Conclusion: There was a significant change in intercanine width in both groups of activation time. Keywords: expansion screws, removable orthodontics, intercanine width, maxillary

Objectives. This study aimed at finding out whether anterior teeth angulation and inclination have a relationship with the maxillary teeth and dental arch dimensions. Methods. Fifty study models with normal occlusion were selected from the archive of the Department of Orthodontics at Baghdad Dental Faculty. Maxillary dental arch width and length at different points were determined in addition to measuring anterior teeth angulation, inclination, crown thickness, overjet, overbite, and Bolton’s ratios. The unpaired t-test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient test were used for data analysis. Results. No statistical gender differences were reported in all measurements except the dental arch widths and length where males had significantly higher mean values. Only the maxillary incisor’s inclination showed a direct weak significant correlation with the total arch length. Conclusions. The inclination of upper incisors had a minimal effect on increasing dental arch length.

ABSTRACT Objectives To compare the effects of a hybrid miniscrew-supported expander versus a conventional Hyrax (CH) expander in growing patients. Materials and Methods Forty patients were randomized into two groups: a hybrid Hyrax (HH) expander group using a Hyrax expander with two miniscrews and a CH expander group. The final sample had 18 subjects (8 female, 10 male; initial age of 10.8 years) in the HH group and 14 subjects (6 female, 8 male; initial age of 11.4 years) in the CH group. Cone-beam computed tomography examinations and digital dental models were obtained before expansion and 11 months postexpansion. The primary outcomes included the orthopedic transverse effects of expansion. Intergroup comparison was performed using analysis of covariance (P < .05). Results Significantly greater increases in the nasal cavity width, maxillary width, and buccal alveolar crest width were found for the HH group. No intergroup differences were observed for dental arch width or shape changes. Conclusions The HH group showed greater increases in the nasal cavity width, maxillary width, and buccal alveolar crest width. No differences were observed for intermolar, interpremolar, or intercanine widths; arch length; or arch perimeter. Arch size and shape showed similar changes in both groups.

Based on the results of the dentoalveolar system morphometry performed in patients with permanent teeth physiological occlusion we have developed a method for studying the anterior dental arch. It follows the circle of geometry patterns as well as stable values in the medialdistal dimensions of the front teeth crowns. In view of the mesial-distal dimensions of 14 teeth and dental arch width between the second molars and individually built radius of the circle we modified the method of dental arches graphic reproduction. The first stage of the dental arch individual shape graphic reproduction implies designing a dental pentagon, whereas its base is the width of the dental arch between the second molars, and the median sagittal line determines the depth of the dental arch. The upper sides of the pentagon (incisor-canine diagonals) run from the central interincisal point to the canine point, while the lower sides (canine-molar diagonals) connect the canine points to the molar points. At the second stage of the dental arch individual shape graphic reproduction, a circle is outlined, whose radius is related directly to the width of the anterior dental arch, and has an inverse relationship with its depth. There is a proof offered for clinical feasibility of the method employed to predict the optimal individual shape of the dental arch through graphic reproduction in patients with class I Angel occlusion issues. The study showed that the effectiveness of therapeutic and diagnostic measures for patients with abnormal shape and size of dental arches. It can be achieved if the sequence of the graphic construction stages is strictly followed.

Aim: Objectives: To analyze variations in dental arch width in relation to oral habits.   Materials and Methods : Cross sectional  study was carried out Department of Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics of Dhaka Dental College & Hospital, Dhaka with a total number of 600 primary school children of 3-6 years ages of Bangladeshi population. Results: This study was a cross sectional study conducted among the 600 children with 3-6 years old prima- ry school children of Bangladeshi population. According to present study, bottle feeding causes significant reduction in maxillary intercanine width and mouth breathers show significant reduction of both arches. Conclusion: It was observed that the children who had used a bottle had a significant reduction in maxillary intercanine width. Breathing through mouth appeared to be associated with a reduction in the size of both arches. This was more significant in the maxillary intercanine , mandibular  intercanine and mandibular molar widths. Therefore to prevent malocclusions, the public should be informed of the harm caused by certain oral habits, the benefits of breast-feeding, and the need to correct bad habits at early life.
