BACKGROUND: Mayer-Rokitansky-Kuster-Hauser (MRKH) syndrome is a rare disorder described as aplasia or hypoplasia of uterus and vagina due to an early arrest in the development of Mullerian ducts. The etiology of MRKH syndrome remains uncertain: Although at the beginning, it was mentioned that this syndrome was the result of sporadic abnormalities. It has recently been assumed the genetic background is the cause of the increasing number of familial cases. CASE REPORT: A 29-year-old female patient presented with amenorrhea. She also has normal pubic and axillary hair and breast development. Routine investigations were normal. Genitalia inspection shows that pubic hair was well developed, labia majora and vagina were seen. Inspeculo show that vaginal wall was smooth, but portio was not seen. Vaginal examination result: The uterus was unpalpable, both adnexa were normal, parametrium was laxed, and Douglas pouch was not protruded. Rectal examination shows that uterus and both adnexa were difficult to identify. Transvaginal sonography revealed absence of uterus, both ovaries within normal. Transvaginal sonography diagnosed a uterine aplasia. With this, the provisional diagnosis made as primary amenorrhea due to suspected MRKH syndrome, the patient was referred for follicle-stimulating hormone, estradiol, testosterone, and prolactin levels by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay examination and the result was within normal limit followed by genetic karyotyping and the result was normal 46, XX. CONCLUSIONS: We report a 29-year-old woman with primary amenorrhea. From our examination, the patient was diagnosed with MRKH syndrome. Uterus transplant is an alternative for that woman to treat amenorrhea and possibility to get pregnant.

Swyer syndrome with complete gonadal dysgenesis is associated with an absence of testicular differentiation in a phenotypic female with a 46, XY karyotype. The diagnosis is usually made at adolescence when primary amenorrhea is investigated. Here is an interesting case report of 18-year-old unmarried girl, who presented with primary amenorrhea and non-development of breasts. Her body built was musculin with broad shoulders, prominent Adam’s apple and deep voice. Examination of her secondary sexual charaistisctcs revealed no breast development, absent axillary hair and sparse pubic hairs with female type of external genitalia. Laboratoryanalyses revealed serum follicle-stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone levels compatible with hypergonodotropichypogonadism. Pelvicultrasonography showed an infantile uterus and streak gonads. Chromosome analysis revealed 46, XYkaryotype. Laparoscopic removal of streak gonads was done as there is a risk of gonadoblastoma in such cases. The patient was started on hormonal replacement therapy. Swyersyndrome results mainly due to mutation in certain genes such as SRY gene, which leads to failure of development of testis. Birdem Med J 2020; 10(2): 130-132

Introduction: The axillary hair removal laser is one of the most often used procedures to treat unwanted hairs in that region. Employing this technology can be helpful in decreasing the bromhidrosis. Methods: In the present research, a clinical trial study over the effect of the hair removal laser on normal microbial flora at the axillary region is presented. The intervention group consisted of 30 women referred to the dermatologic clinic for the purpose of removing axillary hair by the alexandrite 755 nm laser and the control group consisted of 30 women referred to the same clinic for any other reasons. Both groups were evaluated for the type of bacterial strains on the first visit and after three and six months. Results: The results showed that the sense of sweat smell improved by about 63% after the last laser session. The frequency of all bacterial strains decreased in the intervention group except Staphylococcus epidermidis which was significant. In the control group, there was no significant decrement in any bacterial strains and even the prevalence of more strains including Staphylococcus aureus and S. epidermidis increased. Counting the mean bacterial colon showed a slight decrement of the bacterial count following the laser. Conclusion: The use of laser radiation, even with the aim of hair removal, can alter the microbial flora, and it can be accompanied by the improvement of the smell of sweat. The effect of the laser on different bacterial strains is quite different, which can depend on the amount of energy, the wavelength, the characteristics of the area under the laser, and also the structural properties of the membrane of the microorganism itself.

Abstract An athlete challenged the result from an in-competition doping test which returned with an adverse analytical finding for stanozolol, claiming it was due to supplement contamination. Her lawyer asked the laboratory to analyze several hair specimens simultaneously collected from five different anatomical regions, head, arm, leg, pubis and armpit, to document the pattern of drug exposure. A specific UPLC–MS-MS method was developed. After decontamination with dichloromethane, stanozolol was extracted from hair in the presence of stanozolol-d3 used as internal standard, under alkaline conditions, with diethyl ether. Linearity was observed for concentrations ranging from 5 pg/mg to 10 ng/mg. The method has been validated according to linearity, precision and matrix effect. Concentrations of stanozolol in head hair, pubic hair, arm hair, leg hair and axillary hair were 73, 454, 238, 244 and 7,100 pg/mg, respectively. The concentration of stanozolol in head hair is in accordance with data published in the literature. When comparing the concentrations, body hair concentrations were higher than the concentration found in head hair. These results are consistent with a better incorporation rate of stanozolol in body hair when compared to head hair. The simultaneous positive concentrations in different hair types confirm the adverse analytical finding in urine of the top athlete, as the measured concentrations do not support the theory of contamination. For the first time, an anabolic agent was simultaneously tested in hair collected from five different anatomical regions from the same subject, with a large distribution of concentrations, due to anatomical variations, and these findings will help interpretation in further doping cases when documented with hair.

AbstractBackgroundPuberty is the period of human growth and development. To determine the onset of puberty with regards to the effect of higher adiposity, together with growth parameters of the participants at various stages of sexual maturity for both sexes.MethodsThe study was conducted on 1944 children (8–16) years; 1022 girls (52.6%) and 922 boys (47.4%) were taken at random. Pubertal assessment was done using Tanner staging that assigned breast development in females and pubic and axillary hair in males and females. Testicular volume was recorded using a Prader orchidometer. Height, weight, body mass index (BMI), body mass (BM) fat, body fat percentage, through applying a body impedance analyzer, and others were recorded.ResultsThe mean ages at the onset of puberty for females and males in our study were 10.29 ± 1.1 and 11.34 ± 1.02 years, respectively. Pubic hair (stage PH2) was attained at mean age of 10.72 ± 0.84 and 11.98 ± 1.03 years for females and males, respectively. For axillary hair (stage AH2), the mean age was 12.47 ± 0.68 years for females and 13.8 ± 0.58 years for males. The mean age at menarche was 12.41 ± 0.65 years. In concordance to BM fat and percentage, all pubertal stages started earlier in females with BMI ≥85th percentile comparable to females within average BMI. As for males, no significant relation was noted between mean pubertal ages and BMI values.ConclusionsA significant association of mean ages of Tanner stages to excess weight especially in females warranted the increasing awareness about health care, nutritional aspects, and living circumstances.

Puberty is the physiological sequence of events when secondary sexual characteristics develop, reproductive capacity is achieved, and final adult stature reached. The outward signs usually develop over 3 to 5 years, with significant variation both in the age that puberty starts and the pace at which development proceeds. The events that lead to the triggering of puberty remain uncertain, but clinical presentations may arise because the process is abnormally early (precocious puberty) or abnormally late (delayed or absent puberty). Several variants of the normal processes may also present for clinical assessment, for example, premature isolated thelarche (breast development) or adrenarche (pubic and axillary hair development), which do not require treatment.
