The purpose of this study was to uncover and identify the psychological accumulation of the sea alms ceremony at Pedalen Beach. This is based on the religious style and cultural behavior of the Javanese people who tend to cultivate between Javanese culture and religion represented in the ceremony of sea alms tradition. The subject of this study was the caretaker of the Alms Pedalen Sea shore, while the object of the research was the psychological acculturation of the community (fishermen) as individuals and groups. The results of this study indicate that, first, the acculturation process tends to occur acceptance between the two parties, secondly, the form or form of acculturation is assimilative, namely accepting the almsgiving belief system as an expression of gratitude, third, the sea alms ceremony is also perceived and believed by the community (fishermen) Pedalen Beach to strengthen his faith in the Unseen.

The recent spate of global migration for geo-political reasons hides the fact that human migration has occurred over several millennia. Perhaps social media has led to acute awareness of the impact of immigration on social, political, and economic aspects of the new country. Urban areas and conurbations tend to attract refugees and asylum seekers. The contributions that migrants make are often ignored or forgotten. Migrants are mostly psychologically and physically resilient, but acculturation processes may not always go smoothly, creating discrimination by the larger community. Some migrant groups show higher rates of psychiatric disorders, but these have to be seen in the context of discrimination in policies of employment, housing, etc., and physical and psychological acculturation. Political, social, and economic factors are likely to play a role in the genesis of depression in urban migrants. Specific social factors may influence the individual’s functioning soon after arrival, but other factors may emerge after moving into the city.

Understanding how bicultural and monocultural individuals are oriented toward the cultures they come into frequent contact with can increase insights into their adaptation and well-being. Previous research has shown a relation between culture and mental state reading in the form of the cultural in-group effect, which is defined as the advantage in reading mental states from the own cultural group compared with other groups. Thus, orientation toward cultures can be assessed not only in self-reported behavioral and psychological acculturation but also in the domain of social–cognitive abilities. The aim of the current research is to gain insight into acculturation in the social–cognitive ability of mental state reading. In addition, it explores how this facet of acculturation is related to the more traditionally studied behavioral and psychological acculturation. Cross-cultural mental state reading, language and possession of friends (behavioral acculturation), and cultural identification (psychological acculturation) were assessed in Antillean Dutch ( n = 128), Moroccan Dutch ( n = 204), and Dutch ( n = 349) young adults between 19 and 24 years old ( M = 21.57 years, SD = 1.38 years). For cross-cultural mental state reading, the in-group effect was confirmed for the Dutch but not for the Antillean Dutch and Moroccan Dutch participants. Furthermore, there were no consistent associations between mental state reading and behavioral and psychological acculturation in the three groups. The present results extend fundamental research on cross-cultural mental state reading and also help to further understand the orientation of these specific cultural groups.

This study aims to understand the psychological acculturation dynamics of participant of KKN-PPL integrated programme in Thailand through identifying and understanding the motivation of participants to participate on KKN-PPL integrated programme in Thailand. How did Barrier as stressor which they face it, what coping strategies was used by participants, and how did the psychological acculturation process of participants in Thailand. This study is a qualitative research with phenomenological approach. the results of this research is there are basic needs such as need to have fun, need to love and belonging and need to power which are realized through their participation on the KKN- PPL integrated programme in Thailand. As for this research found that stressor was different among participants. Subjects who face initial stressor without advance stressor tend to using coping strategies focused on the problem consistenly and coping strategies centered emotions simultaneously without adaptation switching otherwise subjects who face the advance stressors tend to being decreased in pattern or transition coping strategies gradually. Furthermore, the psychological acculturation process of participant of KKN-PPL integrated programme in Thailand are the result of interaction of complex factors which affect participants to be success or failure to be integrated self or to be new self identity.

This article discusses the importance of clear and precise conceptualizations of acculturation as well as the need for consistencies in definition, operationalization, and measurement. More specifically, it argues for an expanded acculturation research toolkit that does not rely too heavily on self-report acculturation scales. The article begins with an overview of the state of affairs with respect to acculturation conceptualizations and methods, paying particular attention to the unidimensional, bidimensional, and multidimensional frameworks of psychological acculturation. It then considers ways in which commonly used definitions and methods of acculturation can be used more intelligently. It also describes alternative methods for researchers interested in moving beyond self-report rating scales, a tiered approach to acculturation research, and method-specific health considerations. Finally, it offers some recommendations aimed at helping the field of acculturation and health research move forward.

Objective: To report the psychometric properties of the Psychological-Behavioral Acculturation Scale (P-BAS), a tool gauging behavioral and psychological acculturation after adapting it through formative research to people of Mexican origin in the United States.

Methods: We analyzed data from adapted P-BAS questionnaires in the TalaSurvey study, using standard methods to establish internal consistencies (Cronbach’s alpha), construct validity, and ascertain if the value orientation profile differed by ethnic group.

Results: In 2012-13, 505 respondents (mean age 45.2 ±14.1, 56% female) participated: 250 European Americans (EA) and 255 people of Mexican origin (MA).

Conclusions: Although internal consistencies of 15 value orientation measures were occasionally low, overall results were encouraging. A weighted combination of value orientation scores strongly discriminated between EA and MA. Additionally, the pattern of relationships among MAs identified between acculturation scores and the validity contrasts supported the construct validity of the proposed dual framework. The trend was particularly evident for most behavioral variables. Ethn Dis. 2015;25(4):469-478; doi:10.18865/ed.25.4.469
