The present study was conducted to estimate total energy expenditure (TEE) of fire-fighters using tri axial-accelerometers in conjunction with an activity log survey on a large number of subjects undergoing training mimicking a large-scale disaster. Subjects were 240 fire-fighters participating in a two-day fire-fighting training dedicated to large-scale natural disasters. Data was analyzed by job type of activity group and the job rank, and by comparing the average. The average TEE of the total survey training period is about 3619 (±499) kcal, which is the same value of expenditure for professional athletes during the soccer game season. From the activity group, the rescue and other teams consumed significantly more energy than the fire and Emergency Medical Team (EMS) teams. From the job rank, Fire Captain (conducting position) consumed significantly lower energy than the Fire Lieutenant and Fire Sergeant. Furthermore, it was found that a middle position rank consumed the most energy. This research supports a need to reconsider the current rescue food (and protocols) to supplement the energy expenditure of fire-fighters. In addition, since there was a significant difference between the job type and the job rank, it is necessary to examine the energy amount and shape suitable for each.

This descriptive-correlational study focused on the emotional well-being, spiritual wholeness, and positive functioning of middle-aged professionals. It aimed to measure the levels of emotional well-being, spiritual wholeness, and positive functioning; likewise, their difference when age, sex, civil and employment status, and job rank were considered.  This research also intended to determine the relationship among the mentioned constructs. The study utilized tests on Emotional Well-being, Spiritual Wholeness, and Psychological Well-being Scale.  Eighty-three participants from the university in Bacolod City were purposively chosen to answer these tests. Findings revealed that the levels of emotional well-being and spiritual wholeness of midlife adults were very high. Also, no significant differences in both constructs were found.  The positive functioning of the respondents is high.  However, an average positive functioning of single respondents was revealed when the civil status was considered. It was concluded that both emotional well-being and spiritual wholeness are significantly related to the positive functioning of midlife adults. The results of the study will be utilized for the creation of a wellness program, which aims to improve the employee’s psychological well-being.

Situated in communication privacy management (CPM) theory, this study found that anticipated risk was the strongest predictor of minority religious identity disclosure at work. Older workers who regarded non-Christian belief or non-belief as central to who they were and who worked in smaller organizations disclosed their identity more than other participants. The follow-up analyses also revealed that the degree of disclosure varied by ethnicity, geographic region, religion, job rank, and membership in the organization’s dominant religion. Religious accommodation policy and religious centrality were associated with increased anticipation of benefits, which in turn was linked to increased disclosure. Finally, sense of belonging was associated with increased anticipation of benefits and decreased anticipation of risks, which also indirectly impacted disclosure. This study added more depth to CPM privacy rules and provided a broader understanding of minority religious identity disclosure at work. Recommendations for creating a religiously inclusive workplace and directions for future studies are provided.

Grid Computing provides sharing of geographically distributed resources among large scale complex applications. Due to dynamic nature of resources in grid, there is a need of highly efficient job scheduling and resource management policies in grid. A novel Grid Resource Scheduler (GRS) is proposed to effectively utilize the available resources in Grid. Proposed GRS contributes, an optimal job scheduling algorithm on Job Rank-Backfilling policy and a resource matching algorithm based on ranking of resources with best fit allocation model. Performance of GRS is measured by considering a web based BLAST algorithm – a bioinformatics application. GRS aims in reducing; Makespan of the job workflow, execution time of varied size jobs, response time of the submitted jobs and overhead of using the system. It also considers improving the utilization factor and throughput of the available heterogeneous resources in grid. The experimental results prove that proposed grid scheduler framework performs better when evaluated against widely used First Come First Serve (FCFS), Shortest Job First (SJF) and Minimum Time to Due Date (MTTD) scheduling strategies.

The purpose of this study was to reveal psychological well-being of structural civil servants who have retired and become the backbone of their families. This study used a qualitative research approach with a phenomenological method. The subjects involved in this study were two retired male of structural civil public servant who were aged no more than 59 years old and who have different latest job rank and position. The results of this study indicated that both subjects have a good condition of psychological well-being, with each dynamic that not differ too much from each other. There are several factors that play a role in their psychological well-being condition, including adequate financial source, the existence of productive or social activities carried out after the retirement and the religiousity factors.Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari tahu gambaran psychological well-being pria pensiunan Pegawai Negeri Sipil struktural yang menjadi tulang punggung keluarga. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dengan tipe penelitian fenomenologis. Partisipan yang terlibat dalam penelitian ini adalah dua orang pria pensiunan Pegawai Negeri Sipil struktural yang berusia tidak lebih dari 59 tahun yang memiliki pangkat dan jabatan terakhir yang berbeda. Teknik analisis data dilakukan dengan beberapa cara, antara lain organisasi data, koding dan analisis, serta analisis intra kasus dan analisis lintas kasus. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kedua partisipan memiliki kondisi psychological well-being yang baik, dengan dinamika yang tidak berbeda jauh satu sama lain. Terdapat beberapa faktor yang berperan dalam kondisi psychological well-being kedua partisipan tersebut, antara lain sumber finansial yang memadai, adanya kegiatan produktif atau sosial yang dilakukan setelah pensiun dan faktor religiusitas.
