Abstract CarTech Micro-Melt 440-XH is an air-hardening, high-carbon, high chromium, corrosion resistant alloy tool steel that is produced by the powder metallurgy process. It can be considered as either a high hardness Type 440C martensitic stainless steel or a corrosion- resistant Type D2 alloy tool steel. CarTech Micro-Melt 440-XH possesses corrosion resistance equivalent to that of Type 440C martensitic stainless steel and can attain a maximum hardness of 64 HRC. In addition, the composition of CarTech Micro-Melt 440-XH has been balanced so that it can attain a minimum hardness of 60 HRC when air cooled from the hardening temperature. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, and machining. Filing Code: TS-819. Producer or source: Carpenter Technology Corporation.

Abstract CarTech 347 is a niobium+tantalum stabilized austenitic stainless steel. Like Type 321 austenitic stainless steel, it has superior intergranular corrosion resistance as compared to typical 18-8 austenitic stainless steels. Since niobium and tantalum have stronger affinity for carbon than chromium, carbides of those elements tend to precipitate randomly within the grains instead of forming continuous patterns at the grain boundaries. CarTech 347 should be considered for applications requiring intermittent heating between 425 and 900 °C (800 and 1650 °F). This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-1339. Producer or source: Carpenter Technology Corporation.

Abstract CarTech 321 is a titanium-stabilized chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel that was developed to provide the performance of an 18-8 austenitic stainless steel with improved intergranular corrosion resistance. Since titanium has a stronger affinity for carbon than chromium, titanium carbide tends to precipitate randomly within the grains instead of forming continuous patterns at the grain boundaries. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-1338. Producer or source: Carpenter Technology Corporation.

Abstract CarTech 303 is a free-machining austenitic stainless steel. The addition of sulfur to this 18-8 chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steel, which is ordinarily tough and difficult to machine, enhances the alloy’s machinability to the degree that it can be readily utilized for producing parts on automatic screw machines at about 70% of the speed of SAE 1212. This sulfur modification has led to widespread acceptance and use of this grade in the screw machine industry. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: SS-1337. Producer or source: Carpenter Technology Corporation.

Abstract CarTech Ti-3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr, also known as Ti-3-8-6-4-4 and Beta C, is a metastable beta alloy used in the solution heat treated or solution heat treated and aged condition. It is appropriate for applications where very high strength, minimum weight, and corrosion resistance are important. Ti-3Al-8V-6Cr-4Mo-4Zr has gained in popularity among beta alloys because it is easier to melt and process, exhibiting low segregation, good workability, and good heat-treating properties. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, elasticity, and tensile properties. It also includes information on corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, and joining. Filing Code: Ti-172. Producer or source: Carpenter Technology Corporation.
