The pervasive acceptability of a revolution from monodirectional push-based media broadcasting to a bidirectional interactive pull-based internet protocol television (IPTV) has spotted significant development in recent years. The pervasive acceptability is because of the mammoth number of exhilarating television (TV) channels that IPTV offers. However, the channel switching feature of a TV system requires additional development despite the increased implementation of IPTV systems worldwide. Subscribers of IPTV services must be able to swiftly explore live TV stations and video contents of interest seamlessly, but zapping delay is a deterrent that occurs during a channel change that causes a significant glitch in IPTV systems. Many of the literature approaches such as channel prediction based on behavior analysis have shown flaws in resolving zapping delay. The approach of this study uses adaptive channel switching with a personalized electronic program guide to resolving zapping delay. The resolution saves the subscribers the time of channel navigation by eliminating the need to search for channels they want to view.

Channel zapping delays are inconveniences that are often experienced by the subscribers of Internet protocol television (IPTV). It is a major bottleneck in the IPTV channels switching system that affect the quality of experience of users. Consequently, numerous channels switching approaches to minimize zapping delay in IPTV have been suggested. However, there is little knowledge reported in the literature on the determination of the strength of the evidence presented on the approaches of reducing zapping delay in IPTV, which is the prime purpose of this study. The extraction of the relevant articles was designed following the technique of preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA). All the included research articles were searched from the widely used databases of Google Scholar, and Web of Science. All statistical analyses were performed with the aid of the random-effects model implementation in Stata version 15. The overall pooled estimated delay component was presented in forest plots. Overall, thirteen studies were included in the meta-analysis and the overall pooled estimate was 10% (95% CI: 7%, 30%)). Experimental studies have shown that virtual elimination of IPTV zapping delay is possible for a relevant chunk of channel switching requests.

IPTV (Internet Protocol Television) includes several video components. The IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) cannot differentiate between them what causes their treatment similarly. These sub-components must have different priorities because they have distinct QoS constraints. In this paper, we suggest the implementation of IPTV in a heterogeneous network that improved QoS by providing the capability to prioritize the sub traffic according to the system administrator policy. A new IPv6 flow label field definition was proposed that is ready for standardization. OPNET Modeler software is used to design our approached architecture. The results show that IPTV users receive different amounts of video data based on the stream's priority.

The rapid growth of mobile television (TV), smart TV, and Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) content due to the convergence of broadcasting and the Internet requires effective recommendation methods to select appropriate TV programs/channels. Many previous methods have been proposed to address this issue. However, imperative factors such as the utilization of personality traits and social properties to recommend programs for TV viewers remain a challenge. Consequently, in this paper, we propose a recommender algorithm called Recommendation of Programs via Personality and Social Awareness (ROPPSA) for TV viewers. ROPPSA utilizes normalization and folksonomy procedures to generate group recommendations for TV viewers who have common similarities in terms of personality traits and tie strength with a Target TV Viewer (TTV). Therefore, ROPPSA improves TV viewer cold-start and data sparsity situations by utilizing their personality traits and tie strengths. We conducted extensive experiments on a relevant dataset using standard evaluation metrics to substantiate our ROPPSA recommendation method. Results of our experimentation procedure depict the advantage, recommendation accuracy, and outperformance of ROPPSA in comparison with other contemporary methods in terms of precision, recall, f-measure (F1), and arithmetic mean (AM).

The purpose of the article is to present the evolution of television networкs and services and streaming them through analogue TV to full digitalization to the introduction of IP technology and advanced smart smart equipment. The networкs of cable TV operators are being transformed into triple play networкs, кnown as triple play. In addition to standard television, they also carry telephony and the Internet. As a result, it can be considered that the equipment converges and becomes more intelligent and highly functional. To date, networкs are switching to the IP core and offering high-speed and broadband IP services. Television is undergoing its metamorphosis and is being transformed to IPTV - (Internet Protocol TeleVision). The authors' contributions are related to the analysis of the main components and processes for the acquisition and processing of television content in IPTV.
