Background: GM1 gangliosidosis is an autosomal recessive lysosomal storage disease due to a lack of β-galactosidase activity, exactly because of mutations in the GLB1 gene. GM1 gangliosidosis is a rare disease that could occur either during infancy (infantile type 1), as a juvenile (type 2), or in adulthood (type 3) in both nervous and skeletal systems. Type 1 is characterized by premature psychomotor deterioration, visceromegaly, macular cherry-red spot, skeletal deformities, and death in the first 2 years of life. Case Presentation: We reported an Iranian infant who, on initial check-up, had coarse face, visceromegaly, dystonia, and hepatosplenomegaly that increased at 15 months of age. At the initial check-up, a genetic test was performed and GM1 gangliosidosis type 1 was diagnosed. Conclusion: infant form is characterized by early-onset before the age of 6 months and rapidly progressive psychomotor deterioration, facial abnormalities, and visceromegaly.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of a microkinesitherapy session on pain and the amplitudes of flexion-extension in post-traumatic acute neck pain. Methods: Randomized double blind clinical trial involving two groups of patients. The microkinesitherapy group benefitted from the check-up treatment sequence, the control group from a check-up simulation sequence. The primary outcome measure was evolution of pain, secondary endpoint amplitudes of movement. Results: 29 patients were studied: 15 in the microkinesitherapy group and 14 in the control group. A significant decrease in the visual analog scale (0-10) of pain was noted for the microkinesitherapy group (5,2 ± 2,3 at initial check-up versus 2.5 ± 1.7 in the second check-up, p <0.001), but no decrease in the control group (4,0 ± 2,3 initial check-up versus 3,1 ± 2,4 in the second check-up, ns). The evolution of the amplitude of flexion-extension was significant for the microkinesitherapy group (95° ± 29° ° in the first check-up versus 107° ± 27° in the second check-up, p <0.02) but no improvement in the control group (104° ± 26° initial check-up versus 107° ± 28° in the second check-up, ns). Conclusion: Our study shows that an early microkinesitherapy session is effective on pain and recovery of flexion-extension in the treated group.

Competent parents feel well in their role, and the experience of their competence reflects on all the spheres of their life. In Serbia, it was noticed that a small number of researches were conducted on this topic. There is no validation of instruments that would allow conducting research using a reliable and valid measure of competence of parents. The aim of this investigation was to determine the factor structure of Parental competence scale [Ljubetic, 2007]. The survey involved 575 parents of pre-school children. The paper presents two solutions of the questionnaire: four-factor and two-factor. The obtained results indicate that on the initial check of the four-factor solution, the obtained reliability of the instrument was low and that there would be no changes after the exclusion of certain items. The results of two factor solution shows that only the first factor related to incompetence in parenting can be used as a reliable measure. Further item analysis confirmed that the reliability of the other factor (competence) would not be increased even by the exclusion of certain items. The conclusion is that the scale can be used only in a short form with 7 items exclusively in the self-assessment of parents? incompetence. The recommendation is also given in the paper in the form of supplementing the factors of parents? competence with the appropriate number of items.

The study examined the choice of the different financing theories for explaining the capital structure source of Micro, Small and Medium enterprises (MSMEs) that seeks to raise their capital, through examining the affecting factors on the main capital structure decision. The study used a questionnaire for 220 of Palestinian MSMEs in order to examine the financing decisions in these firms according to the main capital structure theories. The study found that in accord with the POT, it was confirmed an approach comprising an initial check on the availability of internal resources, followed by the use of internal capital. Where the most of the sample were prefer to depend on the personal money rather than to increase their capital through the partners and loans. Therefore, this suggests the need to raise awareness with regard to the concept of capital structure and the other determinations that affect MSMEs' capital financing.

Background: With the prevalence of and hospitalizations for gout increasing, optimizing care for patients with gout is imperative. The 2012 American College of Rheumatology gout guidelines emphasize that timely monitoring is key to achieving serum urate (SUA) goals. Few studies have examined this metric following the 2012 update, and to our knowledge, none have examined a veteran population. Objective: To evaluate adherence to urate-lowering therapy (ULT) monitoring guidelines in a veteran population. Methods: This is a single-center, multisite, retrospective chart review of US veterans receiving ULT for gout within the VA (Veterans Affairs) Tennessee Valley Healthcare System from January 1, 2013, to June 30, 2015. The primary end point was percentage of patients with a SUA within 6 months of initial xanthine oxidase inhibitor prescription. Secondary end points included percentage of patients with SUA <6 mg/dL and percentage of patients with uptitration following SUA above goal. Results: A total of 601 patients met inclusion criteria for the study; after application of exclusion criteria, 505 were analyzed. Of these, 295 patients (58%) did not have a SUA drawn within 6 months, and 162 patients (32%) reached the end of the study period without SUA measured. Of 226 patients with SUA above goal on initial check, 64 (28%) had timely dose adjustment, whereas 143 patients (63%) had no adjustment. A total of 161 patients (32%) had a SUA at goal within the study period. Conclusions: Rates of ULT monitoring at a major VA medical center were suboptimal, and improved adherence to guideline recommendations is needed.

Compact Infrared Camera (CIRC) is a technology-demonstration instrument equipped with an uncooled infrared array detector (microbolometer) for space application. CIRC is the first microbolometer sensor without a calibration function in orbit, like a shutter system or an onboard blackbody. The main objective of the CIRC is to detect wildfires, which are major and chronic disasters affecting various countries of Southeast Asia, particularly considering the effects of global warming and climate change. The CIRC achieves a small size (approximately 200 mm), light mass (approximately 3 kg), and low electrical power consumption (<20 W) by employing athermal optics and a shutterless system. The CIRC can be consequently mounted on multiple satellites to enable highfrequency observation. Installation of CIRCs on the ALOS-2 and on the JEM/CALET is expected to increase observation frequency. We present the initial check-out results of the CIRC onboard ALOS-2. Since the initial check-out phase (July 4–14, 2014), the CIRC has acquired the images of Earth. CIRC was demonstrated to function according to its intended design. After the early calibration validation phase, which confirmed the temperature accuracy of observed data, CIRC data has been available to the public January 2015 onward. We also introduce a few observational results about wildfire, volcanoes, and heat-island.

After much exertion and care to run an experiment in social science, the analysis of data should not be ruined by an improper analysis. Often, classical methods, like the mean, the usual simple and multiple linear regressions, and the ANOVA require normality and absence of outliers, which rarely occurs in data coming from experiments. To palliate to this problem, researchers often use some ad-hoc methods like the detection and deletion of outliers. In this tutorial, we will show the shortcomings of such an approach. In particular, we will show that outliers can sometimes be very difficult to detect and that the full inferential procedure is somewhat distorted by such a procedure. A more appropriate and modern approach is to use a robust procedure that provides estimation, inference and testing that are not influenced by outlying observations but describes correctly the structure for the bulk of the data. It can also give diagnostic of the distance of any point or subject relative to the central tendency. Robust procedures can also be viewed as methods to check the appropriateness of the classical methods. To provide a step-by-step tutorial, we present descriptive analyses that allow researchers to make an initial check on the conditions of application of the data. Next, we compare classical and robust alternatives to ANOVA and regression and discuss their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, we present indices and plots that are based on the residuals of the analysis and can be used to determine if the conditions of applications of the analyses are respected. Examples on data from psychological research illustrate each of these points and for each analysis and plot, R code is provided to allow the readers to apply the techniques presented throughout the article.
