Subject. This article deals with the issues related to accounting as an information practice and academic discipline in the context of digital transformation and non-stationarity of the socio-economic environment, and problematic aspects and prospects for its development in the context of the challenges of our time. Objectives. The article aims to identify the most significant factors affecting the accounting system, its conceptual sphere, subject and methodology, as well as identify problems inherent in accounting as an information practice, and directions of its modernization in the face of modern challenges. Methods. For the study, I used logical and theoretical-cognitive approaches, expert judgment, and comparative, and logical analyses. Results. The article presents original views toward the prospects for development and possibilities of modernization of the theory and practice of accounting, changes in its subject field, objects and methods. Conclusions and Relevance. The expansion of the subject field and methodological base of accounting, a departure from the purely financial, retrospective and specific nature of reporting information, flexibility and customization of the system to the information needs of management, convergence with other areas of economic knowledge and functionalities, with related information and control practices are the conditions for updating accounting in the context of the challenges of the digital economy. The results of the study can be used for further discussion concerning the prospects for the existence and development strategy of the profession, in the formation of policy papers that determine the concept and vector of development of accounting in the digital economy and information society, as well as in the educational process in determining the range and agenda of R&D issues for students of specialized master's programmes.

A Review of: Henderson, S., McGreal, R., & Vladimirschi, V. (2018). Access Copyright and fair dealing guidelines in higher educational institutions in Canada: A survey. Partnership: The Canadian Journal of Library and Information Practice and Research, 13(2), 1-37. https://doi.org/10.21083/partnership.v13i2.4147 Abstract Objective – To investigate the interpretations of fair dealing applied across Canadian post-secondary educational institutions outside of Quebec and to determine whether such institutions have a licence with Access Copyright. Design – Descriptive/quantitative study. Setting – Canadian post-secondary education sector, excluding Quebec. Subjects – A total of 159 Canadian post-secondary institutions outside of Quebec, including 75 universities and 84 colleges. Methods – A list of Canadian post-secondary educational institutions outside of Quebec was compiled. Data from participants relating to the research objective—reliance on an Access Copyright licence or use and interpretation of fair dealing—was collected via internet searches or, if unavailable online, via direct telephone communication with participants. Main Results – A majority of Canadian post-secondary educational institutions outside of Quebec, approximately 78% (124 institutions), did not have a licence with Access Copyright. The smaller the institution, the likelier it was to have an Access Copyright licence. This was in part linked to the fact that smaller institutions typically do not have staff specializing in copyright; savings from terminating Access Copyright licences (charged on a per student basis) would not justify the creation of such positions. Regarding fair dealing, 18% of study participants based their approach on the Supreme Court of Canada’s six-factor test (29 institutions), while 53% applied the fair dealing guidelines created by Universities Canada (85 institutions). Conclusion – Most of the institutions studied did not have Access Copyright licences and were relying on fair dealing instead, suggesting a bellwether for the copyright climate in the Canadian higher education sector towards fair dealing. Institutions may benefit from a future national consensus regarding interpretations of fair dealing concepts.

Abstract Purpose The aim of the study is to assess the state of glaucoma surgical training in United States ophthalmology residency programs, including experience with microinvasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). Design The design of the study is anonymous, internet-based national survey. Participants Current United States ophthalmology residents of residency programs accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Methods An anonymous survey link was emailed to all 120 accredited United States ophthalmology residency programs inviting residents to participate in an assessment of residency glaucoma surgical experience. Survey responses were collected between January 21, 2019 and March 4, 2019 and analyzed using descriptive statistics. Main Outcome Measures The main outcomes of the study are demographic information, practice intentions, and anticipated primary surgical experience with ACGME-required glaucoma procedures and MIGS procedures, as self-reported by U.S. ophthalmology residents. Results Of the estimated 1,479 U.S. ophthalmology residents, 161 residents participated (10.9%). A total of 118 residents (73.2%) reported any degree of anticipated MIGS primary surgical experience during residency, with the iStent being the most familiar technique. The likelihood of any anticipated MIGS experience during residency was not significantly different by geographic region (p = 0.16), however, anticipated volume varied significantly (p = 0.037). Of the 113 respondents who reported an intention to manage glaucoma surgically in their eventual practice, 25 (22.1%) reported no anticipated primary MIGS experience during residency. 73.3% of residents anticipating MIGS experience anticipated 0 to 10 cases, with 42.9% anticipating less than 5 cases as primary surgeon. Conclusion MIGs are not a required component of the glaucoma surgical curriculum for U.S. ophthalmology residents. Although the majority of ophthalmology residents surveyed intend to manage glaucoma surgically in eventual practice, most receive minimal experience with these novel techniques during residency. Surgical training is variable by geographic region.

PurposeIn this paper, we introduce feminist technoscience as an approach that will advance theory in information behavior and practice.Design/methodology/approachIn this conceptual paper, we identify four common assumptions in information behavior and information practice research that limit theory development to date. Existing models and theories tend to rely on extractive logic, focus on a person-in-situation, depend on binary definitions and assume that information interaction changes people's lives for the better. This leads to extractive ways of discussing information interactions and limits our ability to fully theorize embodiment and affect in our discipline.FindingsFeminist technoscience offers distinct ways of thinking about people, technology, bodies and power; in doing so, it responds to some perennial limitations in our research to date.Originality/valueFeminist technoscience is a robust research paradigm that has not yet been fully applied in our discipline. Assumptions in information behavior and information practice research have led to models and theories that reflect a logic of extraction and are limited in their potential for characterizing both embodiment and affect. Feminist technoscience provides a way to conduct research that challenges these assumptions and addresses these limitations.
