The article presents field research results on the effectiveness of different moisture and nutrition conditions at the cultivation of early potato under drip irrigation in southern Ukraine. The scheme of the experiment included the treatment with the complex Mochevyn K as an additional control and different methods and correlation of fertilizers Plantafol (treatment of tubers before planting, fertilizing, at budding and their combination), as well as different soil moisture conditions (irrigation rates of 100 and 200 m?/ha). Studies have shown that the average yield of early potato without irrigation was 10.44 t/ha. Moisture conditions significantly affected the yield of young tubers - irrigation at a rate of 200 m?/ha provided 21.61 t/ha, whereas reducing the irrigation rate to 100 m?/ha led to a decrease in yield - 19.86 t/ha. The first treatment of planting tubers, treatment of plants at sprouting and during budding provided almost the same yield. The second and the third treatments of plants and tubers did not lead to a significant increase in yield. The highest productivity of potato was provided by Plantafol treatment of tubers and combination of tuber treatment with foliar feeding at mass sprouting phase with a 200 m?/ha irrigation rate for two years: 24.16 and 23.22 t/ha.

Black scurf (Rhizoctonia solani) disease of potato is becoming prominent in many potato growing districts of Gujarat state which reduce quality and market value of the produce, resulting in economic losses. The field experiment was conducted during rabi season of 2014-15 in naturally infested field with scurf pathogen at Potato Research Station, S.D. Agricultural University, Deesa (Gujarat) with the objective to find out suitable management strategies for black scurf through organic approaches (bio-agents and organic amendments). Among different bio-agents (Trichoderma viride, T. harzianum. Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis) tested against black scurf, the tuber treatment with 2 per cent boric acid spray along with tuber treatment with T. viride @ 10 g/kg seed before sowing recorded the lowest disease incidence (15.33 %) and index (0.38) with highest total tuber yield (324.68 q/ha) with maximum income `2,57,414/ha. When price computed with healthy and diseased tuber yield among treatments, the maximum income variation was (`92,986/ha) recorded by the same treatment followed by the tuber treatment with 3 % boric acid spray before sowing (`68,440/ha). In case of various organic amendments tested, soil application of mustard cake @ 10 q/ha registered minimum disease incidence (37.33 %) and disease index (0.66) as compared to rest of the organic treatment with highest total tuber yield (`327.20 q/ha) with maximum income `2,65,010/ha. When price computed with healthy and diseased tuber yield among treatments, the maximum income variation was (`1,12,990/ha) recorded by the same treatment followed by the neem cake @ 10 q/ha (`56,660/ha). These organic treatments can provide an effective and economical management of black scurf of potato for cultivaters.

Investigations on the potential beneficial effect of humic substances on crop plant cultivation under extremely diverse soil and climatic conditions is of global character, thereby knowledge obtained on the basis of local investigations are of great importance world-wide. The aim of the research was to evaluate the effect of different application methods (seed tuber treatment and foliar application) of commercially-produced peat and vermicompost extracts on nutrient uptake in tubers and yield of potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) using field experiments in organic farming system with potato variety ‘Borodjanskij Rozovij’. The tested extracts from the organic products included: peat extract (K45) and vermicompost extract (B45) obtained at +45°C by cavitation. The investigation was carried out at Stende Research Centre (Institute of Agro-resources and Economics) from 2011 to 2012. The chemical composition (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, Mo, B) of potato tubers was determined. The application of organic extract from vermicompost had a stimulating effect on mineral nutrient as N, P, K, Mg, and S accumulation in potato tubers, but 50% of cases showed reduction in Ca and Cu content that could influence the storage of tubers. The use of peat extract was significantly effective when the tubers were treated before planting. On average, tuber treatment and foliar spray with organic extracts contributed to 10% of tuber yield increase.

ABSTRACT   The research  aims to assess the response to the growth and production of onion against of liquid organic fertilizer from cow biourie in some concentrations and to get the best concentration for the growth and production of red onion. The research was conducted atfield experimental in Pandu, North Minahasa regency from May to July 2014. The experiment was designed using a randomized block design. The treatment was concentration of cow biourine namely 0% (B1) 10%, (B2) 20%, (B3) 30%, (B4) 40% and (B5) 50%. Each treatment was replicated three times. Characters observed were plant height, number of leaves, tuber diameter, number of tuber, fresh weight of tuber with leaves and dry weight of tuber. Data was analyzed using analysis of variance. The result showed that the biourine concentration had significant effect on plant height, number of leaves, tuber diameter, number of tuber, fresh weight of tuber with leaves and dry weight of tuber. Treatment of B1, B2, B3 and B4 concentration were not significant difference at plant height. However, those four treatments were significantly different compared to B0 and B5. The fives treatment differed with the control on characters of number of leaves, number of tuber andfresh weight of tuber with leaves. On character of tuber dry weight, B2 treatment was significant difference compared to control whereas the other treatments were not significantly differed. On character of tuber diameter, three treatments were significant difference compared to the control namely B2, B4 and B5. Efficacy of Mahogany Bark Aqueous Extracts and Exposure to Solar Heat for Treatment of Potato Tuber Soft Rot Caused byErwinia CarotovoraSsp.CarotovoraThe efficacy of combining tuber treatment with mahogany bark aqueous extracts and exposure to solar heat for the control of potato tuber soft rot was investigated. Artificially inoculated potato tubers were treated with mahogany bark aqueous extracts and exposed to solar heat for zero, one, two and three hours. The results showed that tuber treatment with the plant extract followed by exposure to solar heat significantly reduced the incidence and severity of tuber soft rot compared to the control group. However, the highest reduction in the incidence and severity of the disease was recorded on tubers treated with the plant extract and incubated immediately after treatment (no exposure to solar heat). This suggests that the plant extract is more effective at lower than higher temperatures. Potato tuber losses due to soft rot could therefore be managed by tuber treatment with mahogany bark extract and no exposure to solar heat.

Insecticide use for aphid control in potatoes by mainly Canterbury growers was assessed by a New Zealandwide postal survey in 200102 and by examination of spray diaries from Canterbury (11 seed and 13 process growers) in 200304 Only 22 (16 growers) of seed and 4 (12 growers) of fresh potato growers responded to the postal survey with Canterbury growers making up 93 of the respondents Overall results indicate that most seed crops received a single seed/tuber treatment as well as approximately five foliar applications Most process crops (200304 only) were seed/tuber treated with 0 or 1 foliar applications For fresh crops (200102 only) 59 were seed/tuber treated and 14 had 2 or 6 foliar applications Seed/tuber treatments were mostly imidacloprid but also phorate Foliar applications included organophosphate carbamate synthetic pyrethroid and pyridineazomethine insecticides Insecticide use patterns are discussed in relation to the effectiveness of aphid/virus control and the risk of insecticide resistance
