Abstract This study aims to determine characteristics of the gel-type colorimetric indicator at various pH and under different storage conditions, then determine the indicator characteristic in the packaging of fish fillets during storage. The gel-type color indicator was synthesized with a concentration of 1%, 3%, and 5% gambir powder. The FT-IR spectra of the color indicator showed the presence of tannin functional groups, namely C=C aromatic rings, C-C phenolic, and C-H groups, respectively at wavenumbers 1517-1519, 1440-1475, and 752-761 1/cm. Moreover, the coefficient value of the Red-Green-Blue (RGB) of the indicator was changed over pH and did not appear to be consistent. Based on the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test, the concentration of gambir powder and duration of color indicator storage, respectively, had a significant effect (P <0.05) on the value of the RGB coefficient. The color indicator exposed to sunlight had a smaller RGB coefficient value than the RGB coefficient value of the indicator stored at room temperature and 5-7°C. The application of color indicators with a 1% Gambir powder concentration in fish fillet storage has been tested for 5 days at a temperature of 5-7°C. They showed that the RGB coefficient value of the indicator was proportional to changes in the pH value of fish fillets but not in line with changes in Total Volatile Based Nitrogen (TVBN) of fish fillets.

Background Postoperative observed air leakage does not always originate from parenchymal defects but may arise from defects in the chest drainage unit, connections or reverse airflow in water seals. We investigated such false air leakage using a new chest drainage unit with a built-in CO2-detector and an electronic chest drainage unit. Methods Two types of chest drainage units were tested in a simple porcine model: A well-known electronic chest drainage unit and a new chest drainage unit with integrated CO2-detector. We created a setup of true air leakage—a parenchymal lesion, and false air leakage—allowing air to flow into the thoracic cavity alongside the chest drain. Results We demonstrated that the new chest drainage unit with a built-in CO2-detector can distinguish between experimentally induced true air leakage and false air leakage. Conclusion Available chest drainage systems do not allow direct assessment of true or false air leakage, which may increase chest drain duration unnecessarily. The integration of a CO2-sensitive color indicator into a chest drainage unit allows simple distinction between false air leak and true air leak, which may improve postoperative management.

В данном исследовании представлены результаты взаимосвязи исходов беременности и наличия анемии у женщин, наблюдавшихся в поликлинике «Асмед- 2» г.Алматы, чьи роды произошли с января по октябрь 2020 года. Проводился анализ амбулаторных карт, из которых оценивались такие критерии, как: показатели общего анализа крови (уровень гемоглобина, количество эритроцитов, цветной показатель), возраст матери, количество беременностей, паритет родов, сопутствующие факторы риска, исходы родов, их осложнения, а также рост и вес плода при рождении. Результаты показали отсутствие значительной связи между анемией легкой и средней степени тяжести во время беременности и исходом родов. Однако, отмечается наличие возможной связи с возникновением таких осложнений со стороны плода, как малый вес при рождении и внутриутробная задержка развития плода. This study presents the results of the relationship between pregnancy outcomes and the presence of anemia in women who were observed in the «Asmed - 2» polyclinic in Almaty, whose births occurred from January to October 2020. Analyses were carried out in outpatients, of which assessed such criteria as: indicators blood count (hemoglobin level, red blood cell count, color indicator), maternal age, number of pregnancies, parity genera, related risk factors, birth outcomes, and their complications, as well as the height and weight of the fetus at birth. The results showed no significant association between mild to moderate anemia during pregnancy and the outcome of labor. However, there is a possible association with the occurrence of fetal complications such as low birth weight and intrauterine fetal development delay.

Chirality plays a key role in the physiological system, because molecular functionalities may drastically alter due to a change in chirality. We report herein a unique color indicator with a static helicity memory, which exhibits visible color changes in response to the chirality of chiral amines. A difference of less than 2% in the enantiomeric excess (ee) values causes a change in the absorption that is visible to the naked eyes. This was further quantified by digital photography by converting to RGB values. This system relies on the change in the tunable helical pitch of the π-conjugated polymer backbone in specific solvents and allows rapid on-site monitoring of chirality of nonracemic amines, including drugs, and the simultaneous quantitative determination of their ee values.
