In this study, we developed a radial artery pulse acquisition system based on finger-worn dense pressure sensor arrays to enable three-dimensional pulse signals acquisition. The finger-worn dense pressure-sensor arrays were fabricated by packaging 18 ultra-small MEMS pressure sensors (0.4 mm × 0.4 mm × 0.2 mm each) with a pitch of 0.65 mm on flexible printed circuit boards. Pulse signals are measured and recorded simultaneously when traditional Chinese medicine practitioners wear the arrays on the fingers while palpating the radial pulse. Given that the pitches are much smaller than the diameter of the human radial artery, three-dimensional pulse envelope images can be measured with the system, as can the width and the dynamic width of the pulse signals. Furthermore, the array has an effective span of 11.6 mm—3–5 times the diameter of the radial artery—which enables easy and accurate positioning of the sensor array on the radial artery. This study also outlines proposed methods for measuring the pulse width and dynamic pulse width. The dynamic pulse widths of three volunteers were measured, and the dynamic pulse width measurements were consistent with those obtained by color Doppler ultrasound. The pulse wave velocity can also be measured with the system by measuring the pulse transit time between the pulse signals at the brachial and radial arteries using the finger-worn sensor arrays.

Results of experiments on a propagation of a pressure wave with a shock-wave leading front through a gas region excited by a pulsed freely localized discharge of the microwave wavelength range are described. The discharge was realized in air at a pressure from 14 to 100 Torr in the focal region of a quasi-optical electromagnetic beam of the microwave wavelength range. The experiments revealed three types of interaction of the gas-dynamic pulse with the region excited by the discharge in the post-discharge mode. The specific type of interaction is defined by the initial structure of the discharge and the delay time of the gas-dynamic pulse passage through the excited region.

The Nogier reflex or reflex auriculo-cardiac (RAC) or the dynamic pulse reaction is a physiological phenomenon that is not generally accepted in conventional medicine. Therefore, evidence-based research in this sub-area is important for auricular medicine as it provides appropriate scientific evidence for better acceptance. In this editorial, a RAC measurement based on a modified smartphone registration and analysis is presented. The contribution is intended to stimulate researchers to continue working in this interesting area.

The current study aims to investigate the facesheet dynamic pulse buckling of simply supported, cylindrical composite sandwich panels using the Budiansky–Roth buckling criterion. The foam core has been modeled with isotropic elastic-perfectly plastic properties and various failure modes of the sandwich panel like facesheet fracture, foam shear fracture, and foam yield are investigated. The extended high-order sandwich panel core theory was used to model the compressibility of the core. To study the mechanical properties of the viscoelastic foam core, the Kelvin–Voigt linear viscoelastic model was applied. The transient responses and stress components obtained from the present method are compared with finite element solutions using commercial software ANSYS and those reported in the literature. Accordingly, reasonable agreement is observed. It was shown that the pulse local buckling strength of the panel increases with a decrease in the panel radius or an increase in the thickness of the panel, and facesheet fracture is considered more a likely failure mode of these sandwich panels.
