Due to the ozone layer depletion, global warming and climate change, there is a significant increase to reduce carbon emission. Practitioners and academia undertake studies to promote environmentally friendly built environments. Developed countries have established specific standards to achieve a carbon neutral as their commitment to contribute for a better earth condition. Design phases are considered as the early stage where the environmental approach needs to be applied to predict the building performance as soon as possible to maximise the energy efficiency of the proposed building. Another significant factor affecting the building energy performance is climate. Climate becomes the first parameter to generate building proposals as it is contextual to the site. This study aims to assess the application of environmental approach in designing educational building in temperate climate during the early design stage. The combination of design and simulation during the early design stage, helps to define the best design proposal to adopt passive design that harvest the environment condition as much as possible to deliver comfort into the building.

Observing from the concept of city identity, Bandung has an identity as a creative city. However, there are still many architectural buildings that do not reflect Bandung's identity as a creative city. Bandung Creative Hub is a center of creativity that is used by the people of Bandung City as a means to create, interact, and collaborate. As a center of creative activity for the city residents, Bandung Creative Hub has certain visual aesthetic elements that can reflect the identity of the City of Bandung as a creative city. This study examines the characteristics of the visual aesthetic elements of Bandung Creative Hub as a building that represents the identity of Bandung City as a creative city. Using a qualitative descriptive method that analyzes Bandung Creative Hub based on visual aesthetic variables, including aspects of composition, cohesiveness, balance, symmetry, proportions, scale, rhythm, contrast and harmony. Visual aesthetic aspects of the Bandung Creative Hub building have attractive characteristics as a representation of Bandung's identity as a creative city. The formation process of a building from the construction phase up to the use of building require much energy. It triggers the happening of global warming. Although the concept of building sustainability applies from now on, but the effect is considerably less, because it doesn’t concern the energy used that consumes on the construction phase. This scientific article is about the effort of reducing the carbon footprint through the concept of carbon neutral that allows the carbon consumption of building returns to zero point by the CO₂ emission reduction in electrical energy consumption. The method is summative evaluation on the architectural work of The Glaxo Smith Kline Carbon Neutral Laboratories for Sustainable Chemistry at Nottingham University to reviewing the electrical energy consumption from the construction phase to the use of the building. The result of this method is proving the building that use photovoltaic technology, which change the sunlight into electrical energy contributes 60,2% of the total electrical energy needs on the effort of CO₂ emission reduction through the systems which the excess energies produced are as carbon credits for “paying back” the carbon used during the construction phase. Through this building, human, nature and technology can walk in harmony without being second-numbered.

Geographically Surabaya is crossed by the Kalimas River which runs from south to north with several branches to the east. Therefore the utilization of this river bank has an important role to increase the ecological and visual value of the city while securing the city space assets. Utilization of river banks as active and attractive city parks has been carried out by the Surabaya City Government. Some of them are Taman Prestasi, Taman Eksresi, and Taman Buah. These three parks are both on the banks of the river which are river border spaces which are not allowed to be made buildings. This study aims to identify the typology of space formed in city parks located on the banks of rivers. Then the findings of the resulting typology of hope can be useful in the development of urban parks on the banks of the river. This study found that the geometry of the park formed is a linear park with a linear circulation path as well. Access to the linear park can be from the middle or the end of the park. So that space to attract visitor activity at the ends of the park so it does not become a dead space that is empty of visitors. The types of spaces created at the end of the park include playgrounds, foot reflexology paths, historical monuments, mini libraries and food courts.

The discourse on experimental pragmatism, as a paradigm in architecture and in other fields, is still very limited. Most references still place this term as jargon. This study aims to establish definition and working model of experimental pragmatism paradigm in architecture using content analysis methods. It was learned that experimental pragmatism can be defined as a design paradigm that prioritizes the strength of goals (discoveries) and their actualization in the process (experimentation) and design outcomes according to their attributes (method-and-parameter (process) and nature-and-parameters (output)). The definition of experimental pragmatism (PE) includes three aspects, namely the aspect of the goal (T) to get a new discovery (discovery), the process aspect (P), and the output aspect (L). This definition can be translated as a working model into formula PE = T x (PMP + LSP), where MP is Method and Parameter and SP is Characteristic and Parameter.

The increasing needs of daily life is certainly involve the market. The market is one of place for business opportunities for traders, the majority of which have small businesses. As the number of consumer demand increases for the necessities of life, then formed a market known as the 'shocking market'. It named “shocking” market because the market is temporary with traders who are always moving locations to find a crowded point of buyers. The activity is only for some time and lasts only a few hours. Usually this shocking market stands at a place that has other functions, such as a sidewalk or open field that has a potential point of bustling buyers in the surrounding environment. The shocking market presence can be assessed through its movement patterns, in which the movement patterns of traders by means of groups and at certain times are the background of this study. The presence of the shock market was reviewed in order to uncover the pattern of movement of traders in the shock market in the Marunda Rusunawa area. The method used is a qualitative rationalistic method, with interview and observation techniques in the field. The results of this study shows the movement pattern of the shocking market traders in Marunda Rusunawa and the reasons behind them moving in groups.
