Based on that background, this study is aimed on how the types of meaning are appeared in the language of slogan-making of English Japanese car and motorcycle companies slogan which is specified to identify the types of associative meaning appeared and describe meaning that is emphasized. This study uses descriptive qualitative approach that emphasizes on describing in detail the types of meaning that appears in the language of slogan-making of English Japanese car and motorcycle companies slogan in which the data of this study are twelve slogans which taken from internet. The instrument of this study is the human instrument who is gathering and analyzing the data. The results of this study show that in the language of slogan-making of English Japanese car and motorcycle companies slogan there are several types of meaning appears based on Leech’s seven types of meaning theory, namely conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, and thematic meaning. Meanwhile two are three types of seven types of meaning that did not appear, namely social meaning and collocative meaning.

The aims of this study were to find out the types of meaning, and advertising objectives in airplane company slogans. Based on the research phenomenon, public does not understand the meaning of the message of the English slogan of the airline company as an advertising medium for the public. This research was conducted by using descriptive qualitative design. The data consisted of 42 airplane company which operated in Indonesia. The data were analysed by using the seven types of meaning theory by G. Leech (1981) and advertising objective theory by (Kotler, PhilipKeller, Kevin Lane : 2009). The data were divided into Seven Types of meaning, they were Conceptual meaning, Connotative meaning, Social meaning, Affective meaning, Reflected meaning, Collocative meaning, and Thematic meaning. The data were also analysed by using advertising objective, they were to inform, to persuade, and to remind. The final results of analyzing the activities of 42 English slogans of airplane company slogans operating in Indonesia were found using Thematic meaning.The main theme that is usually carried is usually always related to safety, so it's not surprising that there are many words of "safety" that are the focus and emphasis in their slogans. Some other airplane company try to say in their slogan that the company is better, more friendly, warmer in terms of comfort in traveling using their airplane company.The final result of the analysis of 42 English slogans of airplane company operating in Indonesia that the researcher found that the company's goal of advertising slogans were to inform customers.

The title of this study is Slang Word Used in Movie Script “Harold And Kumar Go to White Castle”.  The aims of the study are to identify the types of slang and meaningconveyed in movie script Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. The data of this study were collected from” Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle” movie script as the data source. The theories usedin the study are theory proposed by Allan and Burridge (2006) entitled Forbidden words: Taboo and The Censoring of Language used to identify the types of slang word, and theory proposed by by Leech (1974) entitled Study of Meaning used to analyze the meaningsconveyed in the movie. The documentation method is used to collect the data, and descriptive qualitative method is used to analyze the data.There were forty slangs either in the form of words or phrases that areanalyzed based on theorymentioned above. There are five types of slang in theory of Allan and Burridge (2006) but only four types were found in the movie script.  Those are fresh and creative, imitative, flippant, acronym, and clipping. Flippant type was the most found in the data source. For the meaning, there were seven types of meaning based on thetheory proposed byLeech (1974) but only six types were found in the movie script. Those are conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, collocative meaning, reflected meaning, and affective meaning. Affective meaning type is the most found in the data source.

This study was aimed to identify and analyze the meaning and message in several sentences found in the novel Rage of Angels by Sidney Sheldon published in 1980. The selected sentences in the novel, which are the data of this study, were collected by applying the documentation method and note-taking technique which then were analyzed using the descriptive qualitative method. The data were presented informally in descriptive form. This study analyzes the types of meaning based on the theory proposed by Leech (1974) and the messages of the novel based on the biographical approach theory by Wellek and Warren (1962). As a result, all the seven types of meaning, namely connotative meaning, conceptual meaning, affective meaning, stylistic meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning, and thematic meaning, were found in the novel. In relation to the message of the novel, based on the biographical approach, there were five messages that the author delivered.

Meaning is the field of the study discussed in the semantic field. Semantics is a branch of linguistics that studies the meaning of words in languages. This present study would like to set thought and argues that the meaning of a word in language can be known with the foundation of semantic perspective. Therefore, this present study focused on explaining its thought based on the seven types of meaning and their descriptions in the book of Semantics by Geoffrey Leech: 1981. The research aims to classify and to identify seven types of meanings, and also to analyze Leech’s book and three article reviews of his theory. This present study uses a qualitative approach focusing on the words, phrases, and sentences regarding the theory. The result of this research believes that there are seven types of meaning just as Leech’s mentioned in his theory, namely conceptual, connotative, collocative, reflective, affective, social, and thematic. This present study also found that the seven types of meaning have variations in their descriptions which somehow liked to connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning and collocative meaning include to associative meaning.

This study is entitled “The Analysis of American Slang Found in The Movie Script “The Wolf of Wall Street””. The aims of this study are to find out whether primary and secondary slang was used by the characters in movie script titled “The Wolf of Wall Street”, to find out the types and also the meaning of the slang word that used by the characters based on the context of the situation. Documentary method was used to collect the data and then qualitatively described base on the theory of Chapman (2007) who divided the types of slang into primary and secondary slang. This study also uses the theory of Leech (198i) who classified the types of meaning into seven types which are conceptual meaning, connotative meaning, social meaning, affective meaning, reflected meaning, collocative meaning, and thematic meaning. From the analysis, it can be concluded that primary slang was mostly found and used by the characters in the movie, but nevertheless there are several secondary slang used by the characters in “The Wolf of Wall Street” movie script due to a matter of stylistics choice and also used to describe things in a secret way. Among the seven types of meaning, there are only conceptual meaning, reflected meaning, and affective meaning. The meaning behind each slang word in “The Wolf of Wall Street” movie script are depend on the context in which slang words are used.

Figurative language can appear in various types and the meaning may not be determined by its components. This study aims to identify and analyze the meaning of figurative language found in the song lyrics “Passenger's album all the little lights”. There are two theories used in this study. The first is the theory of figurative language proposed by Knickerbocker and Reninger, and the second is the theory of meaning by Leech as the supporting theory. The data in this study were directly taken from Passenger’s fourth album. The album consists of twelve songs. They were collected by documentation method and note taking technique. The collected data were analyzed  using qualitative and descriptive method. This study applied informal method to present the analysis. The result of this study shows that there are nine types of figurative language found in song lyrics. They were allusion, simile, metaphor, irony, personification, hyperbole, dead metaphor, metonymy, and paradox. Most of the figurative expressions found in those songs were similes. Four out of seven types of meaning used in those lyrics in order to understand the figurative meaning in the song lyrics; they were connotative meaning, conceptual meaning, affective meaning, and collocative meaning. All the songs which are analyzed have the main theme about life and love.

The title of the study is “Visual and Verbal Communication in Coldplay’s Music Video Clip Hymn for the Weekend”. The study is commonly aimed at finding out the messages from the lyrics of the song music video clip. The data analysis were collected by documentation method and note taking technique by listening to the song and analyzing the meaning of the word in song lyrics based onVisual Communication Elements theory proposed by Dyer (1993) and the theory of meaning by Geoffrey Leech (1974). The findings of the current study show that there are six categories from the visual communication elements including appearance, manner, activity, props, settings, and images, as well as the meaning found in this study were connotative meaning, conceptual meaning, stylistic meaning, and affective meaning.

Taboo words are cultural or religious custom that is not allowed to be used to someone else. However, taboo words are also found in daily conversation. Therefore, the aim of this study is to analyze the types, function and meaning of taboo words found in the film. The data of this analysis were taken from a film entitled “Dirty Grandpa”.  The data were collected through documentation method and note-taking technique. The data were descriptively analyzed based on the types, function and meaning of taboo words. The result of this analysis shows 10 (ten) types of taboo words in the film, namely Epithets, Profanity, Blasphemy, Obscenity, Cursing, Taboo, Vulgarity, Slang, Insult and slur, Scatology.  6 (six) function of taboo words were found; they are Create Attention, Discredit, Provoke Violent Confrontation, Endearment, The Creation of Strong Interpersonal Identification and Provide Catharsis and only three meanings were found, namely affective meaning, social meaning and connotative meaning.

In this study the objectives to be achieved are: (1) To identify what are the types of English slogans. (2) To identify how the semantic meanings of English slogans. The type of research used is qualitative. While the methods and instruments used to collect and analyze and answer all existing problems are qualitative methods and checklist observations. The process of data analysis in this research is carried out in a process starting from data collection and done intensively until the end of the study. Data that researchers get from observations from several sources such as the internet and journals, namely: (1) in general there are 4 types of slogans such as product / advertising slogans, health slogans, environmental slogans and educational slogans. The types of product / advertising slogans are 6 slogans, health slogans 2, environmental slogans 5 and education slogans totaling 8. (2) semantic meanings of 4 types of slogans from internet and journal sources there are 5 namely conceptual meaning, associative meaning, connotative meaning, affective meaning and stylist. Of the 20 slogans education slogans and products that contain more conceptual meaning. The environmental slogans contain more conceptual and affective meanings. Slogans that contain conceptual meaning in the form of a situation context and based on words that have been conceptualized in the dictionary.
