The Japanese language has a variety of respectful languages that are used in Japanese social ethics. This variety of respectful language is known as keigo. Keigo is a speech level that functions to express respect for the speech partner. The expression to express respect is not only used to fellow human beings, but also Allah as the Creator. The purpose of this research was to determine the types of sonkeigo and kenjougo in the Japanese translation of the Qur'an, to describe the word-formation process and the grammatical meaning. This research is qualitative research by applying a qualitative descriptive method. The method of collecting data using a listening method with the writing technique. The data source in this research is the Japanese translation of the Qur'an surah Maryam chapter 4 to 32. In the data source, 14 data were found which is divided into 10 sonkeigo data and 4 kenjougo data. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the sonkeigo word-formation process used the ~rareru pattern with 7 data, the o~ni naru pattern with 1 data, and the o~kudasai pattern with 2 data. The kenjougo word-formation process used a special form of verb patterns with 3 data and an o~suru pattern with 1 data. The sonkeigo speech level is used in the context of Allah's actions, Allah's decree to Zakaria, Maryam, and Isa. The kenjougo speech level is used in the context of Zakaria's pray to Allah and Allah's decree to Maryam which was conveyed through Jibril.

The objective of this study is to investigate morphological system of Toba Batak language from the view of generative transformational study. The major issue in this microlinguistic study is word formations through the processes of affixation, reduplication, and compounding. Most studies done morphologically are structural based theory which explore language phenomena unsatisfactorily. For instance, in Indonesian language the following forms are never found: *ambilan “something taken”, *berpesawat “go by aeroplane”, *keobatan “being dead or sick because of consuming too much medicine”. We, on the other hand, will find the words kiriman “something sent”, bersepeda “go by bicycle”, keracunan “being dead or sick because of consuming something poisonous”. In Toba Batak language, for example, we will not find the words *lehonan “a give”, *marsintua “visit a church functionary to consult something”, *mamiso “use a knife to cut something”. Whereas the forms tongosan “something sent”, mardatu “go to a shaman to ask for help”, and manakkul “use a hoe to do the farm” are actual words that have been used by Toba Batak language speakers. Based on the Toba Batak language phenomena above, the most relevant theory to be applied to treat such problems and the like exhaustively from descriptive to explanatory adequacy is generative morphology. In so doing, this study rests on the theory of generative morphology proposed by Halle (1973), Aronoff (1976), Scalise (1984), and Dardjowidjojo (1988). The theory requires four separated components, they are: (1) List of Morphemes, (2) Word Formation Rules, (3) Filter, and (4) Dictionary. Generative morphology has predictive power to generate actual words and potential words. The method of the study that will be applied is qualitative descriptive method, that is, a kind of linguistic method to describe language phenomena naturally without manipulation. This research will be conducted in 4 regencies in North Sumatra, they are: (1) Samosir Regency, (2) Toba Samosir Regency, (3) Humbang Hasundutan Regency, and (4) North Tapanuli Regency. There are three types of data that will be collected in this study, they are: (1) oral, (2) written, and (3) intuition. Oral data will be collected by observing, interviewing, listening attentively, and chatting with the informants. Written data will be originated from story books in Toba Batak language and bible in Toba Batak language. Intuition data will be based on the writer’s intuition because the writer is a native Toba Batak language speaker. The data will be analyzed using equal and distributional methods.

AbstractCigulu-cigulu is a form of a riddle game. A question or a statement was delivered and then the other person or the interlocuters must find the appropiate answer or the respond for the said question or statement. Cigulu-cigulu is the abbreviated form of "cigi kong gulung-gulung in Manado Malay (BMM), If translated to Bahasa Indonesia it means "tarik lalu digulung" (pull then roll). The research method used to find connotative meanings in cigulu-cigulu is a qualitative descriptive method with the intention of understanding phenomena experienced by informants such as behavior, perception, motivation, etc. by means of descriptions in the form of words and language in a specific context that is natural and by utilizing natural methods. The results showed that in cigulu-cigulu found connotative meaning both positive and negative. Positive when statements / questions are submitted or answers to statements / statements; vice versa. Generally cigulu-cigulu associated with food. The food in question is typical or traditional food from Manado. Semantically this is motivated because Manado have varieties of delicious food. Manadonese people are also known to likely state everything directly, not ashamed to express something "taboo" which for some other communities / cultures are considered uncultured or even forbidden to say. Keywords: cigulu-cigulu, BMM, connotative meaning

The purpose of this article is to describe the phonological process in the prefix /me-/ in Indonesian especially on the morphophonemic aspects. Morphonemic can be interpreted as a new word formation process. This process must be seen from the point of view of phonology and morphology. Phonological aspects play an important role in the morphophonic process where distinctive features are used to present the results. This paper used transformational generative phonological theory. The method used a qualitative descriptive approach. The results of the analysis show that the phonological process that occurs in morphophonemic prefixes / me- / in Indonesian is the addition of consonants and also assimilation of consonant-vowels Keywords: prefix /me-/, morphophonemic, distinctive features

This paper discusses word formation in Arabic through inlectional and derivational processes. Inlection is a morphological process of afixation that creates different forms of the word without changing the word category. Derivation is a morphological process which changes the form of the word and also changes the word category. The method used in this study is a descriptive method with a synchronic time range. In other words, the inlectional and derivational word formation processes will be described as they are. The data were taken from an Arabic textbook for nonarabic students called “Al-Arabiyyah Bayna Yadayk” (2007). The result shows that the inlection process in the formation of Arabic words is intended to mark the grammatical concepts of tenses, mood, diathesis, transitive, gender, and number in verb category, meanwhile in other categories such as noun, adjective, and particle, inlection is intended to mark the grammatical concepts of gender, number, and case. The derivational word formation process in Arabic is conducted in two ways, namely (1) internal changes and (2) afixations. Internal changes in the derivational process were carried out by changing the basic form into certain patterns through horizontal conjugation techniques (tashrif istilahy), namely by changing internal stem vowels, while afixations in the derivation process are conducted by adding afixes to the basic form, such as preixes or conixes. The derivation process in Arabic is intended to form derivation of nouns from verbs, verbs from nouns, and verbs from adjectives.
