Driving Culture in Iran creatively explores the relationship between legalculture and citizenry formation in post-revolutionary Iran. Banakar focusseson driving customs and explanations for citizens’ disregard of trafficlaws, demonstrating that the exceptionally high rates of road accidents andlack of law abidance is due to the complex cultural and political climate. Themonograph argues that the state’s propaganda machine promotes revolutionaryzeal but in a context where people are penalized if they dissent (3). Consequently, dissension becomes a tool for control, setting into motionmultiple forms of internal conflict which are reflected in the way Iraniansrelate to one another as well as in increasing rates of road traffic accidents(4). The originality of the study rests in its exploration of political life atthe juncture of law and culture. Through his analysis of the unintendedcultural outcomes of the legal structure in Iran, Banakar contributes to ourunderstanding of citizenship formation in hybrid and religiously chargedregimes. In particular, the book illustrates how citizens’ distrust of the statecan have deadly consequences on Iran’s roads. The monograph will be ofinterest to academics and other professionals working on the Middle East,Islam, and from a multitude of disciplinary perspectives ...

Introduction3880 fracture patients are admitted in the Emergency Department of Saiful Anwar General Hospital from January to August 2009. It signifies to the second place of the cause of patients' admission. Most cases are motorcyclist victims from road traffic accident. Driving license is encouraged by the government to reduce the number of road traffic accident victims.MethodsThis study utilizes observational with cross sectional study and purposive sampling to correlate the relationship between status of motorcycle driving license ownership and the obedience of traffic law, the relationship between the patterns of motorcycle driving license ownership and the obedience of traffic law, and the relationship between the obedience towards traffic law and the gradation of open fractures among motorcyclist victims in accordance with Sardjito Scoring system.ResultsMost patients have no driving license. And those who has driving license, mostly have never undergone driving license test. Patients with open fractures of cruris come with severe Sardjito scoring system, open fractures of antebrachii with moderate Sardjito scoring system, and open fractures of femur with moderate Sardjito scoring system.DiscussionIt is strongly related between the ownership of driving license and road traffic accidents. The most road traffic accidents cases of are open fractures of cruris, open fractures of antebrachii, and open fractures of femur respectively. High obedience and strict use of personal protective equipment (safety helmet, glove, and jacket) would be effective in mitigating road traffic accident injuries.

The main purpose of this study was to identify and analyze the prevailing types of accidents at roundabouts. The relationship was revealed between certain types of accidents, the place of their occurrence, and the configuration of the roundabout. The study analyzed 321 accidents at 19 ring intersections. Four predominant crash types were identified: rear-end collision, collision with vulnerable road users, side swipe collision, and entering circulate collision. The greatest number of accidents occurred at the weaving lane and at the entrances and exits of the roundabout. Dividing the ring intersections into separate sections to determine the location of the accident allows drawing conclusions on the nature of road traffic accidents and the impact of the roundabout design on safety.

The article deals with the problems of road traffic accidents rate in a large Russian city Tyumen in the late 20 – early 21st centuries. The statistics describes the actual road safety (RS) in Tyumen in 1998–2020. The article presents models based on specific data from Tyumen, that confirm R. Smid's law on the relationship between motorization and the estimated characteristics of RS – human risk (HR) and transportation risk (TR). The trends of HR and TR formation over time for the Tyumen transport system correspond to the stage of a qualitative transition from the third to the fourth RS paradigm. The leading countries are characterized by the fifth paradigm of RS in the field of ensuring the safety of the population today. This is a system of views based on the ideas of the highest value of human life and the need to limit transport mobility, transfer it to another quality. Tyumen with the values of the third and fourth paradigms of RS in practice, so far in all objective manifestations repeats the experience of cities in other countries that passed this stage 20–30 years ago.

Introduction: Traffic accidents with high morbidity and mortality rates are one of the most important problems of the world. Several factors have been described for the occurrence of traffic accidents. Two of them are traffic congestion and road density which have infrequently been reported in the Turkish literature. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the relationship between road traffic accidents, population size, and the number of motor vehicles in Turkey.Material and methods: The crude data were obtained from the web page of the Turkish Statistical Institute. They was standardized for every one million population, every one million motor vehicles, or every one thousand road traffic accidents. The system of Statistical Regions was used in the classification. Results: In Turkey, the total number of inhabitants was 74,724,269 and the number of motor vehicles was 16,089,528 in 2011. As a result of 131,845 road traffic accidents 3,835 people died and 238,074 people were injured. In the evaluation of  the distribution of the number of motor vehicles for every one million population, the distribution of the number of road traffic accidents for every one million population and every one million motor vehicles,  the distribution of the number of people died in road traffic accidents for every one million population, every one million motor vehicles and every one thousand road traffic accidents, and the distribution of the number of people injured in road traffic accidents for every one million population, every one million motor vehicles and every one thousand road traffic accidents were all statistically significant. Conclusion: In the traffic accidents, urban and rural society based projects for the identification of risk factors and the preventive measures are great importance. This study represents a pioneer step forward in this field in Turkey. Keywords: Road traffic accidents, traffic congestion, road density, number of motor vehicles, population.

The trends of Road Traffic Accidents (RTA) in PNG illustrate a rapidly growing problem for developing countries. In this paper data of a time series for twenty years are analyzed to ascertain the trends in main indicators and injury rates. The relationship of injuries to road users and type of vehicle highlights the problems of passengers of utility vehicles and buses. An emerging problem of RTA due to use of light coaches for passenger transport is highlighted. The need for behavioral interventions and tighter regulations is argued.

The number of road traffic accidents decreased in Lithuania from 2002 to 2017, while the ungulate–vehicle collision (UVC) number increased and accounted for approximately 69% of all wildlife–vehicle collisions (WVC) in the country. Understanding the relationship between UVCs, traffic intensity, and implemented mitigation measures is important for the assessment of UVC mitigation measure efficiency. We assessed the effect of annual average daily traffic (AADT) and wildlife fencing on UVCs using regression analysis of changes in annual UVCs and UVC hotspots on different categories of roads. At the highest rates, annual UVC numbers and UVC hotspots increased on lower category (national and regional) roads, forming a denser network. Lower rates of UVC increase occurred on higher category (main) roads, forming sparser road networks and characterized by the highest AADT. Before 2011, both UVC occurrence and fenced road sections were most common on higher-category roads. However, as of 2011, the majority of UVCs occurred on lower-category roads where AADT and fencing had no impact on UVCs. We conclude that wildlife fencing on roads characterized by higher speed and traffic intensity may decrease UVC numbers and at the same time shifting UVC occurrence towards roads characterized by lower speed and traffic intensity. Wildlife fencing re-allocates wildlife movement pathways toward roads with insufficient or no mitigation measures.
