With the projects realized in any organization and the processes to carry them out, that consider the management of the integration, scope, time, cost, quality, human resources, communications, risk, procurement and stakeholder, it is possible to generate new organizational knowledge and take advantage of that already exists. In the particular case of universities, where different kinds of projects are constantly realized, with results that extend beyond these institutions in a way that impacts society in general, using appropriate tools and methodologies for project management is essential as it contributes to maintaining the necessary scientific rigor, even more so when the linked processes can be considered as fundamental factors for knowledge management in the dimensions of: people, processes, content and information and communication technologies. Thus and so, a descriptive research was realized with a non-experimental design, that had as general objective to determine the knowledge management carried out by the professors of the Technology of Services Department of the Simon Bolivar University Litoral Campus, of the State of La Guaira in Venezuela, for which the processes and areas of knowledge were considered for the management of the research projects done it, and it was diagnosed through a self-evaluation how professors managed their projects to then relate the information obtained to the factors that promote knowledge management.KeywordsKnowledge management, project management, processes, knowledge areas, university projects.

Organizations need to execute a number of projects simultaneously in order to react market changes. Besides that, technological advancements enable large scale, complex projects feasible. Keeping all these projects under control and executing projects effectively is a serious problem for every organization. PMOs are appeared to be a solution for managing multi-project environments, but their contribution to organizations is tortuous. In this research, activity areas of PMOs are derived from existing works, and the relationships between PMO activity areas and stakeholder's satisfaction are investigated by applying PLS-SEM methodology. There are six activity areas defined, and named as “project procurement”, “knowledge management”, “project team management”, “communication”, “project planning & follow up”, and “development and maintenance of IT”. With the guidance of existing literature research model is developed. Results show that “project planning & follow up”, and “project procurement” activities have direct effect on “stakeholder satisfaction” at medium level. Besides that, “knowledge management” and “IT infrastructure” have indirect effect through “project planning & follow up”.

Currently, Knowledge Management (KM) is being received very positively by organisations. Nevertheless, there is a particular type of organisation in which there has been less of a general demand for KM: the public organisations. However, in the last three years, a Knowledge Management project, based in communities of practice (CoPs), has been put into practice in the area of the Justice Department in the Catalan government, the Generalitat of Catalunya. The aim of this work is to present a detailed analysis of this project. To achieve this aim, first of all, we are going to introduce the implementation methodology and the results obtained, as well as the success variables involved in this project. This will allow us to offer a guide for implementing CoPs in public administration. Lastly, by way of conclusion, we will provide a series of conclusions and lessons that can easily be applied to the majority of community of practice projects that are implemented in the Public Administration context.
