The Executive Committee of the Department of School Nurses, NEA welcomed "Concepts of School Health Programs" from the AAP1 and felt it was very comprehensive in the broad definition of school health programs. There were a few specific comments which I trust AAP will not object to my sharing in the hopes of providing increased and improved dialogue between our two organizations and disciplines. First, there appears to be a matter of semantics with the words "primary health care."

The cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, especially because of myocardial infarction and stroke. Their beginning, however, starts many years earlier with the atherosclerotic process due to the cardiovascular risk factors, with different weights in the global risk. Our aim is to review the utilization of risk estimators in primary health care, through a comprehensive review of the literature and official national and international health data (OECD and WHO). The risk estimators aim to integrate the partial information of each factor in a global calculation able to help towards a better clinical reasoning in primary prevention. Besides the variables in the mathematical algorithm, estimators must consider also the factors not in the equation, but significant for decision making. Risk estimators are crucial in prevention, allowing to classify the risk in practical categories easy to use and to benefit the decision-making, more than trying to guess what will happen to the patient.

Primary health care is the essential health service provided at the grassroot level. Over the years the implementation of Primary Health Care (PHC) programmes in Edo state are bedeviled with associated challenges such as limited community participation, great communication gap that limit evaluation processes of PHC programme and slow pace collaboration among stakeholders. These challenges need to be averted through effective and people oriented strategies to ensure the implementation of primary health care. A descriptive research design with a population of the study comprised 1,024 primary health care stakeholders in Edo state. Multi-stage sampling technique was used to select 180 respondents for the study. The study found that intersectoral collaboration involving partnerships with community health agencies such as village health committees and ward health committees significantly influenced the implementation of PHC. Intersectoral collaboration, community mobilization strategy and community feedback mechanism are effective and efficient strategies for improved implementation of PHC programmes. The study recommended among others that National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) and State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) should strengthen partnership with international health organizations such as WHO, UNICEF, GAVI, UNDP and boost confidence and trust of these international organizations.

Background. In view of renewed interest in primary health care (PHC) as a framework for health system development, there is a need to revisit how successful community health programs implemented the PHC approach, and what factors should be considered to scale up its implementation in order to sustainably attain ideal community health outcomes in the Philippines. Objective and methodology. Using the 2008 World Health Report PHC reform categories as analytical framework, this systematic review aimed to glean lessons from experiences in implementing PHC that may help improve the functioning of the current decentralized community-level health system in the country, by analyzing gathered evidence on how primary health care evolved in the country and how community health programs in the Philippines were shaped by the PHC approach. Results. Nineteen (19) articles were gathered, 15 of which documented service delivery reforms, two (2) on universal coverage reforms, three (3) on leadership reform, and one (1) on public policy. The literature described how successful PHC efforts centered on community participation and empowerment, thus pinpointing how community empowerment still needs to be included in national public health thrusts, amid the current emphasis on performance indicators to evaluate the success of health programs. Conclusion and recommendations. The studies included in the review emphasize the need for national level public health interventions to be targeted to community health and social determinants of health as well as individual health. Metrics for community empowerment should be developed and implemented by government towards sustainable health and development, while ensuring scientific validity of community health interventions.

AbstractIntroduction: The lack of knowledge about the role of the occupational therapist in Primary Health Care (PHC), especially in the northern region where the insertion of this professional is incipient, may be an obstacle to the effectiveness of interdisciplinarity and offer of care to users. Objective: To know the perception of the health professionals of a Family Health Support Center (FHSC) of the northern region of Brazil, about the work of the occupational therapist in the ambit of the APS. Methods: A qualitative study was carried out with 15 health professionals from FHSC-Águas Lindas, located in the city of Ananindeua, Pará. A questionnaire and a semi-structured interview were used to collect data. Results: The characterization of the participants of the research demonstrated the precariousness and/or absence of formal contract of employment relationship in the FHSC context of the study and the content analysis generated three thematic categories of analysis involving the importance of the work of the occupational therapist in PHC, the knowledge about the insertion of the professional in the health programs and the perception about the interdisciplinary actions involving the Occupational Therapy. Conclusion: In light of the analysis of the speeches, although the importance of Occupational Therapy in PHC was clear, it was observed that there are restrictions regarding the understanding, in particular, of the purposes of the occupational therapist's performance in PHC health programs and in the exercise of interdisciplinarity. Keywords: Primary health care; Patient care team; Professional practice; Occupational therapy.

Health of populations is determined by a multitude of contextual factors. Primary Health Care Reform endeavors to meet the broad health needs of populations and remains on international health agendas. Public health nurses are key professionals in the delivery of primary health care, and it is important for them to learn from global experiences. International collaboration is often facilitated by academic exchanges. As a result of one such exchange, an international PHN collaboration took place. The aim of this paper is to analyse the similarities and differences in public health nursing in Ireland and Norway within the context of primary care.
